http://developer.nvidia.com/object/opengl_3_driver.html

Should help those of you who has NV based GPU's (Graphics cards), unsure about any other advantages over the previous 180.48 WHQL and 180.84 Beta drivers at the moment.

For ATI users, AMD/ATI have been working on implementing OpenGL 3.0 since the 8.10 drivers from what I remember albeit I don't think the current 8.12 drivers fully support all of it.
(Though at the moment there's no titles using it either so it probably doesn't matter.)

Rage uses OpenGL though doesn't it?

I think 8.13 is gunna support OpenGL 3.0. Pretty sure actually. Right now 8.12 is beta, so in a few months it'll be final.

With 8.13 you mean 9.1 right?
(8.12 = December 2008 whereas 9.1 will be January 2009)

Unsure how well ATI currently supports OpenGL 3.0 but from what I've read they have most of the extensions so you might be right that the next couple of drivers will finalize support for it. Smile

And yes this driver is also considered beta version but it shouldn't cause any issues compared to leaked and largely untested beta versions.

There is no 8.13, bud. ATi release in monthly batches and name them as such .. so 8.13 will actually be 9.0 or 9.1 (as in Revision 9, month 1)

I saw someone on here last week post a link to 8.13 and I clicked it and it was legit. I didnt dl it cuz it was beta, but it was real..

Or maybe it was some dick trying to infect ppl's comps with a virus....but it looked real.

It's nowhere on ATi's site, nor on Google. ATi usually name their drivers in rev/month conventions.

There is no 8.13 not even a beta.
You might've seen a 8.12 hotfix though, not the same thing.
Next driver will most likely be released january 15th 2009

Nice with OpenGL 3.0 I guess.. But I fail to see what's so cool about it when OpenGL have almost died off completely as far as PC gaming is concerned. I suppose people that work with CAD/3D modeling or whatever may be interested, but games with OpenGL 3.0? Nah!

I'm not about to enter into an api discussion as it's gotten old, but OpenGL is very useable also when compared to Direct3D 10.
www.libsdl.org makes it easy to work with OpenGL amongst others, it is outright stupid that Amd/Ati doesn't support OpenGL more aggressively compared to Nvidia because many game developers prefer OpenGL compared to Direct3D, they just need the right incentive - Most of the time it's the 'support' Microsoft gives that is the deciding factor and not the features.

Naw guys, it was in a GTA thread. I read on the GTAForums that 8.12 will solve/improve the game so I downloaded it and installed it.

Then someone else came out and said 8.13 Beta is out and might improve it more and they had a link and everything. Like, Im not making this up or anything. And I wasnt high as I dont do drugs and I wasnt drunk as I dont drink (well, unless im at a bar trying to pick up a woman).
I swear, on the bible, koran, torah etc that I saw 8.13 beta drivers....
and no, wasnt a hot fix or anything (i know the difference).

But dont get me wrong, I do believe you guys to just I swear to god I remember seeing it.

Anyway, when is 9 supposed to come out? Early Jan?

EDIT: Thread renamed to reflect the new drivers.

EDIT: Discussion topic form Guru3D

(Seems to add a few new settings to use and performance is increased a bit.)

Have to agree there. Still, the 8.12's are 61% OpenGL 3.0 compliant - not long to go Razz

http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,672081/News/64xQ_FSAA_with_GTX_295_quad_SLI/

64xAA is now possible with these drivers and two GTX 295 (Quad sli) cards, pretty amazing but also very demanding and costly even for such powerful hardware.
(Unfortunately there's no ingame screens of this in action yet.)

EDIT: NVIDIA has released the 181.20 WHQL drivers adding support for the GTX 285 and GTX 295 cards.

185.65 beta ready.
http://www.pcgameshardware.com/aid,680620/Nvidia-Geforce-18565-Beta-ready-for-download/Download/

(Or http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x64_185.65_beta.html if you prefer that link instead, also for other OS's and of course both 32 and 64-bit)

http://www.nvidia.com/object/winvista_x86_182.50_whql.html

And this here above is the 182.50 WHQL set, 185.65 would be a better choice though in my opinion due to perfomance improvements and additional features. Smile
