i remember reading somewhere that you can't pass a certain point because of a bug, which is fixed in the patch, so you should prolly get it.

and the patch is 1.0.1, not 1.1, if i'm not mistaken.
http://files.games.1c.ru/anabioz/files/patches/anabioz_update_setup1.0.1.0.exe

i'm using the patched version with the mini image. had 2 crashes in a couple of hours, but worked fine besides that.

try updating the open al drivers (the last version seems to be from 2007, so dunno how much good that could do) http://connect.creativelabs.com/openal/Downloads/Forms/AllItems.aspx
or choose software instead of open al from the audio settings.

echoey, you say.
there's a setting called @audio_reverb in config.cfg, which is set to 1, by default. try hitting that.

Not like an after-echo of a sound.. just a constant scratchy audio that repeats. Hitting ESC and going to the menu clears it, but then it comes back when I go back to the game. I thought it was PART of the game at first :-\

Have you tried turning off EAX Advanced HD in the options menu (Audio section?)

Only thing I can think of that could cause it.
(Might try software audio instead of openal but that shouldn't be necessary.)

Also make sure your audio drivers are up-to-date. Smile
(Realtek releases drivers pretty often for their older AC'97 serie and the more recent HD Audio serie, last driver release was a few days ago, Creative launched a beta driver about a week ago and Asus has a beta driver available for some time now that fixes a few problems, unsure about Razers audio systems and certain motherboard manufacturers like Asus uses the SupremeFX on-board audio instead of Realtek.)

Install the game, install the 1.01 (Sorry for calling it 1.1) patch and then apply these fixes from the NVIDIA tech demo to convert most text and certain menu textures into English.

EDIT: Patch link.
http://games.1c.ru/anabioz/?type=file&file_id=495
(Seems to be unprotected by the way, I can launch it without having the disc mounted, discovered accidentally, hehe. )

http://www.sendspace.com/file/haeekv
http://www.sendspace.com/file/syts7k
http://www.sendspace.com/file/obbv4u

(I should clean it up a bit better, bit messy at the moment and two of the files are very similar in that they both handle textures but the more recent version tries to improve translation on the new options added by the patch.)

Text goes into the "\Cryostasis\Data\Scripts\text\RU" folder and textures go to the "\Cryostasis\Data\Textures\Interface\Text\RU" folder. Smile

Also it's a good idea to have the latest PhysX runtime drivers installed as the game uses it.
(They're part of the NVIDIA Cryostasis tech demo released earlier.)

I also compared how the game looks on proper NV hardware (Via other peoples screens.) and how it looks when using a Ageia PPU, the AGEIA card still processes physics but not to the extend a compatible CUDA supportive GPU will do (NVIDIA 8x00 to the 280 cards).

well i don't know what you want to hear .... game is a fantastic trip though art mixed with ghost stories and Condemned gameplay mechanic , but its crash happy ,plays laggy as shit , you must patch this russian crap game before you run it and still it will have a craptastic optimizing, on Atis it is un-playable only runs well (kinda well) on Geforces 8 and 9 with Ageia .... if you can't wait get it game is fantastic , but if you want a finished less laggy product then wait for the fixed/translated fully US/EUR version

@D34Dite
patch 1.0.1 removes the copy protection , you can play it without a dvd

After patching, I loaded the game up in 1280 with medium settings and it's running great.

I can confirm...I have a 4870x2 (but crossfire=on/off doesn't make the difference for the game) and at 1280-Medium settings it's playable; there are slowdowns but since the game has slow mechanics, it doesn't matter Wink

An X2 would normally be overkill at such a resolution though. Smile
(Especially as most of the game takes place in tight, small corridors in a ship.)

Those water effects are quite demanding though especially that light reflection stuff I mentioned earlier and the ice effect. (Especially when you heat up a room and it starts melting off the various surfaces.)

DX10 or rather Shader Model 4.0 also brings performance down a bit.

I can understand that seeing how the game is optimized for NVIDIA hardware and the current display drivers probably already have specific optimizations for this title compared to ATI which doesn't have anything at the moment (Thus no Crossfire support and those display artifacts.).

http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_cryostasis_home.html

I'd imagine ATI might be able to catch up a bit with some work on their drivers but they won't beat NVIDIA, especially not with the advantage of PhysX support that NVIDIA holds.
(Bit of a performance hit but the higher end cards can handle that just fine.)

Might also be that the entire game is geared for NVIDIA cards and their strengths like for example Dead Space, Call of Duty 4/5, Crysis and others.
(ATI has closed the gap a bit in some of those titles thanks to updated display drivers but even lower end NV hardware beats high end ATI hardware by a wide margin in titles like Dead Space and Ghost Recen Advanced Warfare to name two of the more extreme examples, Crysis would also be a good example though Warhead fares a bit better.)

Not that I'm complaining or anything, ATI does fall behind now and then as NVIDIA has that "The way it's meant to be played" program so several titles or rather developer studios work towards NVIDIA based optimizations but they still manage to compete pretty well once the display drivers have been updated to newly released titles.
(Price performance ratio is pretty good as well for 4850 cards for example though the X2 is among the most expensive GPU's on the market aside from the new NVIDIA 285 and 290 cards.)

I'm pretty bad at explaining but that should still be a OK explanation.
(The hardware on the ATI 4000 serie also differs from the NVIDIA 200 serie to name a example so you can't directly compare them based on specifications and technical data such as stream processors or memory efficiency.)

I just finished the game....Took me about half an hour afterwards to get my head in place again....

All I can say is this is simply the best first person horror this year...No wait..Make that the best horror this year(the year when it came out still beeing 2008) - a perfect example of a title where all the techology avaluable is put in use to serve in creating atmosphere. And the atmosphere is what is going to create most problems when it comes to translation.
When the title gets translated into english that is going to be one of the main problems - the games story, meaning, all the psyhological layers entwined in the plot are heavly dependant on two things:
-the first is psyhology and ethical values system that is charcteristic for the slavinic ethic group.
-the second it a story that serves as conceptual base "Danko's heart". It was writen by M.Gorky -a famous russian autor that lived and worked both before and after the creation the USSR and was idolised by the regime becouse of his work centered around the ideals of personal strenght of will and sacrafice for the good of the others. It is again based around same principles fundamental for the slavinic psyhological profile.

Both of those would be very hard to interprite adequetly and present to a western audience without sounding well...way to alienated( I am tempted to say "idiotic").The chance is the english speaking players wouldn't even get what the hell is the plot all about ( it is quite metaphorical in russian already)

Even the voice acting(which is simply supperb in the russian version) would be hard to achieve, becouse an english voice actor wouldn't asociate the emotions and tune of the dialog with the emotions that are expressed(belive me you can not understand or emulate a russian soldiers dark sarcasm and fatalistic humor unless you are one).

But lets just hope that they somehow manage to pull it off, becouse this is a title every fan of the horror gender should see - I don't know where to start even.A comparison with Condemned would be accurate, but if it was blended with the psyhological "sins in the past- horrors of the present" Silent Hill-esq j-note.

It is as if the team took the best elements from Condemned's " you know it is going to jump from over there ,but you know you would be to slow to react and get the hell scared out of you" enemy encounter formula and the over all slow, creeping Silent Hill manner of putting pressure on you by presenting small irational bits of story to keep you interested and still clueless about what is going to turn up next and catalizing your sense of insecurety by making you pass trough abandoned, dark and derelict locations(as if a memorial to the degradation that has happened on personal level).

The gameplay itself is mostly centered about the concept of ice and frost - it is eider that those are directly put against you (in which the before mantioned "cold as an enemy" mechanics comes into play) - then usualy all you have to do is act fast and move to the next heat source( the only health and stamina bar is actualy your body heat indicator), or dealing with the damage to the ship they had dealt.

The other gameplay aspect is the "mental echo" ability of the character - there are many corpses in the ship -and form time to time some you have to interact with in order to press on.Then usualy you must relive the memory of the deciesed person in order to prevent them from meeting their( usualy rather violent and brutal) death. Most of the ocasions when you use the ability are scripted, but there are some which you could simply pass( I belive that doing so influences the game end).
I got to say those moments were some if the best and moste intence ingame expiriances I've had in a game - usualy you are in a life or death situation, don't know what to do ,and have only several seconds to react - if you don't you die and have to try the sequence again. In a way they reminded my of the Indigo Prophecy.

Graphics wise all I can say is that the game was done to demonstrate what is Nvidias 9th generation capable of as shaders and lightning- the result is the fact that on 1024x768, all details max , the game was running at no more then 25 fps and offered some of the most photo realistic scenes at places I have seen - this inclueded me gazing at the trench coat of a just killed uuuhhh "cold one" only to see whow detaild the thing reacted to lightsources.I also got killed several times becouse I was just watching how the damn enemy helmet(it was glowing form the inside) trew reflections on the frozen walls.
This reminds me -the frost effects - and espatualy light on frost and the frost melting in real time effect is simply unbelivabble. Not only are there such details as your vision blurind and gogols cover in ice as you freeze, but als you cloths and guns. Also when you heat a room the solid frost slowly turnes into this...liquid bumpmaped texture layer that drains of the walls, untill the room is compleatly dry.Half way trough the icicles begin to fall one after another with loud crashing glass sound - the first few times makes you jump out of your seat. Then if you turn the heat off it gets frosted in a matter of seconds.Simply amazing.

It also has several heavy optimisation issues, the most drastic for me - a room with a lamp attached to a constantly moving crane hook that was traveling through the whole area - you get in a fire fight - the frames droped to no more then 5-7 - and I know I have a good configuration( well I haven't updated the drivers since those special Nvidia released for Far Cry 2).Also crash-es - lots and lots of crashes - good thing it has a decent autosave balance and you never loose much progress.

The sound is the good creapy constant creeky ambient you would expect from a horror game set on a ship. The voice acting - great to amazing(espatualy the old woman that tells the story).
I should also mantion that this is one of the few modern games that had boss fights. And the last levels were simply unimaginalbe.
Actualy all I wanted to say about this game is that it truly shows what a talanted team can do with enough support, time and money.

All I hope is that the translation is good( might play it through again when it comes in english just to see how it's done) and that it reaches the mass audience ,it sure is a title that deserves every bit of time(about 10 hours) invested in playing it.

But saddly, it most likly as it happens to all other games from the ex-block is going to get so badly bashed at gamespot that noone is going to even download it to try it.( You are Empty got a 1,5/10 and it was pure -even if a bit depressing- fun!)

Still waiting for a western/English retail release. The eastern/ex-block developers are currently rising stars. While the execution haven't been perfect for any of them, the actual games are usually a lot more intelligent and interesting than the huge majority of the schlock released by the big publishers. Stalker: ShoC/CS are my all-time faves, sharing that list with System Shock 2, Deus Ex, Bioshock etc.

I hope this will be stable and optimized when it's released for the rest of us. I have no patience to fiddle with translated files etc..

The problem with these titles is they are never properly polished, and have to rely on external mods to make them properly work, but by that time, the mod makers feel so cool and smart they decide to add tons of unnecessary stuff because they think they know best, and before you know it, it's suddenly a crap, but that crap works much better than the original release. Sad

It's the "\Cryostasis\Data\Scripts\" and Init.cfg file. Smile

Change the 11th line from "d.consoleh = 0" to "d.consoleh = 1" (Unsure what the extra "h" means, might just be a error message.) and use the ~ key (Above tab and next to "1" on most keyboards) to bring up the console, certain keyboard layouts might change this though depending on the game. (The Swedish letter 'o' is used in several titles when using a Swedish keyboard layout for example and other layouts probably use other keys or don't use it at all.)

EDIT: And aside from disabling or enabling technical stuff you can also use the "map" command to change levels ("Map Benchmark" for example to load the benchmark level)

godmode 1 <- Enable "godmode" (0 to disable)
pl.health X <- X is a value to add or remove "health" (heat/warmth)
unlimited_ammo 1 <- Same as with god mode but for ammunition
d.noclip 1 <- No-clip mode (Go trough walls and such.)
d.fly 1 <- Similar to the no-clip mode but you won't pass trough geometry and objects.
giveall <- Gives most items.
