It's clear, that the amount of memory is small. The problems is, that there is many, many people playing with maxed settings(with norestriction) on video cards with even smaller amount of memory and there is no problem at all. The other strange thing is, that i'm around 30%, on the first Packie mission and i can't pass it, cause it crashesh every time. So far i had the this problem, but after 2 or 3 hours of playing. Now for 15 minutes and bang - out of video memory.

increase virtual mem size dude. I have mine at 10gb. Runs the comp and games great

JB, I think the important view distance slider (the one that eats memory) controls how far the city simulation should occur. Because on lowest settings some cars disappear around corners, while on higher settings they are still there. I'm guessing it's the same with people as well.

Hey, this patch you guys are talking about...is it the patch released on Dec 12 or is there a new one? Cuz ive been looking for a new one, both through the game (have legal version) and it doesnt say anything bout a second patch.

So are you guys talking about the Dec 12th one, or a new one?

thanks for the confirmation Smile

Waiting on a second patch to improve the performance. It runs smooth enough on my comp but considering my sys, it should run as smooth as butter ya know? as it does. Its perfectly playable tho

Update to latest vid card drivers. For ATI its 8.12 for Nvidia, I dunno. Check the GTAForums.

I keep running into a damn problem when start missions. Sometimes the damn game will give me a never ending loading screen. Just like once in a while it will give me one when I first start the game and it shows those portraits of the characters. Its totally random too and has never done it on the same mission twice.

only time i had a never ending loading screen was after messing with the visual settings file and putting in a value that couldn't be used.

Well that's not my case because I still have Vram to spare on the settings I am playing on. It also doesn't always give me this problems on missions either. I can still do the missions its just the game goes into the never ending loading screen randomly while next time it will work flawless and maybe 15 missions later for example will do it again.

Tell me... wich PC game it's not a port? Besides Crysis. All of the games are ports. Some are good... most of them are crap.

I know, I think this was the point of our last few posts... Smile Most PC games are now console games (which include too much blur and bloom), and that's horrible.

There's still plenty... X series and Total War series comes to mind as some of the best (and you'd never see these on the console, at least not without dumbing them down severely).

Of course there are some. Starcraft and Diablo are too. But we live in a world of ports and it can't be denied. Crysis was a PC exclusive and it's filled with effects. Bloom, blur, all that stuff.

I can only imagine.

Hope Egosoft will keep doing their thing, whatever they'll do next, since X series is done now.

You are so naive if you think that all they do is put an .exe file on console version and suddenly a PC version is born. Just because games are multiplatform doesn't make them all console ports. Games like Mass Effect have all the criteria of being a true PC game. Mouse support, properly scaled menu to PC screens and so on. So stop claiming that all the games are console ports just because they are multiplatform. What next, you'll claim that L4D is a console port, or maybe The Witcher? Or you would rather have no multiplatform games on a PC?

Sorry, but I'm with Glottis on this. Multiplatform != Port.

For the exact same reasons; most PC games that available on consoles too are done pretty damned well. Scalable UIs, better control mapping, hightened graphics and effects, more efficient loading and saving systems.

There ARE bad ports (Oblivion, to be honest, had an awful console-esque GUI) but they're few and far between. Ports are basically versions of the game that are pretty much untouched.

Excuse me, did these multiplatform PC versions have any extra content? Much higher resolution textures to take advantage of the PC memory advantage? Extra graphical effects to take advantage of the GPU advantage in PCs (no, AA and AF do not apply here)? No? Well now, here we go. Mass Effect has mouse support? UE3 has mouse support. To me, a simple UI change with support for a mouse doesn't turn a game into a PC game version as opposed to a console port.

Oblivion and Fallout 3 are two of these rare examples, where something starts as a port, but has such great modding tools and such a dedicated community, that they can become completely different - ergo they don't fall into the ports category in my humble opinion.

Nah man, just because there's modding potential doesn't mean the games aren't ports. I don't consider Oblivion/FO3 to be bad ports -- but they ARE ports. They just happen to be exceptionally good ports Very Happy

TEMPORARY SOLUTION FOR THE RESC10: OUT OF VIDEO MEMORY ERROR
(it works for me, at least Smile)

After some experimenting with some tweaks etc. I found this solution to the problem(but rockstar should still make a patch for it Smile ). After this, i can play gta for hours, without the stupid error Smile

All you have to do, is to run the game with this parameter, depending on which texture settings are you using.

Note : I dont use ANY other command line options

-memrestrict 629145600
(for high texture)

-memrestrict 314572800
(for medium)

-memrestrict 209715200
(for low)

For me, i've created a commandline.txt (in the GTA4 main directory) containing -memrestrict 629145600 , cause i'm playing on high texture setting. So please tell me if it works for you too people Smile
