I am becoming more computer illiterate I think
All I did was instal new heatsink involving taking out MB unscrew old heatsink..put MB back in and BAM! it should all work right? well I get no signal in my monitor
I checked all the ram one by one and I get no signal each time
Video card I have now is is ati 4650, decided to test my old geforce 7800GTX, still no luck
I have also tried my old single core cpu in case i damaged my current cpu when I was installing new heatsink but still no signal in monitor
PSU seems fine, all the fans go on, even fan on video cards goes on
What else could it be? MB seems be the problem? perhaps did something to it while moving it around with my hands trying to get rid of old heatsink

ugh, I have been doing that for 2 hours and still no luck
pushing kinda hard on RAM to fit perfectly..CPU fits too as well..i mean all the cables are connected from psu to mb, 24 pin, 12v
also tried with only monitor cable with no other usb, no luck either

I know that I managed to rip the CPU out of the socket (partly) when I removed a heatsink once. There was some weird back pressure between the sink and CPU due to thermal compound that was so strong it ripped the CPU a couple of millimeters out of the socket.
In any case, the A and O of troubleshooting is to remove everything that is not critical for bootup: disconnect power to all units except motherboard and GFX card, remove Soundcard, disconnect all optical and hard drives (and floppy if you have one), disconnect all extra cards and USB units. Basically reduce the PC to a Motherboard, CPU, one (!) stick of RAM and a GFX card. If that doesn't boot up then you KNOW it's one of those that are messing with you. Switch RAM module, try a different PSU, and if that still doesn't work you may have damaged the motherboard somehow (created a short circuit on the bottom side).

ps. did you remember to attach the 4/8-pin power cable on the motherboard for the CPU? I've forgotten to do that a few times. Always aggravated me when I found out why my PC wouldn't boot.
Also, do you hear the boot up beep or is it just silent (with fans spinning but no boot-beep)?

try different memory slots. had some of mine die on my last build that did the exact same thing.

Add rebooting with old heatsink to your to-do list since that is the change you made that led to this situation. I have a heatsink on my athlon that can be installed facing either way but the copper plate on the bottom is offset to one side. So if I install it the 'wrong' way it still clips on but the copper plate doesn't cover the cpu completely. The result is that the cpu heats up so quickly that it doesn't even get to the boot screen before the thermal protection cuts in.

Well, I disconnected all the sata drives, fans, usb cables..just left video card and swapt daul core cpu for my old single core CPU...and it worked, I can see BIOS
when I look at my dual core, I see 2 pins completely bented so like its touching 2 other pins next to it, could that be the problem?

yes, if you try bending those back you'll prob end up snapping them. They may seem miniscule but lose 1 pin and you render your CPU useless.
You might have to get a new CPU unless you can find a way to bend those back. |

EDIT : Never mind
I tried my best to put pins like they were before and it worked...I was able to boot with my dual core...took few minutes to make them straight
Will plug everything one by one and see if it was really cpu or something else
