Which is still less demanding than 1280x1024, pretty low resolution.

Whereas my 4850 runs it, at 1280x1024 with 2x AA, in Ultra/Enthusiast mode Razz

*That's* why we splurge so much on our comps.. hehehe. Just to be able to say "I can run xxxx with xxxx fps and xxxx settings"

Tis an ego thang.

you forgot the dvd-drive, OS, keyboard, mouse, speakers, monitor...and an upgrade for the gfx card every year or two. I didn't forget them at all. Those can easily be transferred from one PC to another. Chances are if you are a PC gamer you most likely have old hardware that can recycled.

A videocard every year or two is untrue unless you wish to be able to always set games to highest quality. As Spykes said.

actually my 7900GS KO ran crysis on medium/high @ 1440x900

This goes to show that the need to upgrade isn't as soon as many may think. Even I am surprised to hear the 7900GS performing so well. Besides having to lower some graphics in a game isn't that big of a deal. PC games simply evolve faster. You don't have to upgrade you can still play the game. If you have a decent PC right now and a game comes out that requires you to upgrade then its safe to say that the game will probably never make it to consoles in their current generation or they will get a fugly looking port. Which is exactly why Crysis never went to consoles. Our games on our lowered settings look better than their games ever could simple as that.

I don't know why this has become a Console vs PC war or why anyone would even show bias toward one but all I have to say is both have their respected places in the gaming world. I love console games just as much as I love PC games.

New version of that XLive DLL wrapper, now allows loading of other savegames but disables MP to prevent people from cheating in it (Previous version allowed memory alterations like money and health so that's understandable.)

DX10 V.High in Crysis was renamed to Ultra/Enthusiast in Warhead .. they're essentially the same thing, just renamed to try and subdue the complaints a little Razz

Crysis goes up to Ultra but only under DX10 by default, Warhead removes this limitation and allows the highest settings (Named "Enthusiast") under DX9 albeit there are other differences between the DX9 and DX10 versions though they still look very similar.

I thought all the highest settings were available in DX9 on Warhead Confused

It's not the engine as such that doesn't support anti-aliasing, it's because it uses a shader technique called deferred shading and lighting which is also used in Unreal Engine 3.0 titles and the two S.T.A.L.K.E.R. games to name a example.

ATI managed to "hack" enable AA in select UE3 titles and NVIDIA users can use utilities to alter profile settings to force enable AA albeit both methods does incur a hefty performance hit and can cause issues, also requires a modern GPU similar to the previous problem in for example Oblivion with HDR+AA at the same time.

DX10 works around this in some way (Geometry Shaders?) so AA is possible in games like Clear Sky and Gears of War when running in DX10 mode but there's still a pretty big performance hit.

GTA IV uses a different engine though (I think it's called RAGE.) and as it's DX9 only there is, at the moment, no method to successfully force AA but it might be possible with future GPU drivers.
(ATI and NVIDIA are most likely interested as it would be good marketing to show a card so powerful as to handle a high-profile AAA title like this, which has very high system requirements, running fluidly under a high resolution and with 4xAA.)

Well that's true as well, game is very stressful to CPU, RAM and GPU (In that order from what I've noticed.)

(Ofcourse HDD speed and motherboard speed also matters and audio acceleration can also hamper performance, especially those cheaper "cards" built onto the MB itself.)

Even todays top-end 4-core processors are limiting the game a bit as seen in several benchmarks and the game uses quite a bit of RAM if you play for extended periods of time (Up to 3.5 GB from what I've read from a few users on the GTA forums.)

That's not to say that it doesn't stress the GPU because it does and there's not that many settings to alter the game with aside from a few sliders as much of it is controlled via the resolution for some reason. (That technical interview linked to earlier, think it's on IGN.)

Might be improved in later patches though. Smile
(And ATI and NVIDIA will probably optimize their profile for the game a bit more, SLI/Crossfire performance in particular could benefit quite a bit altough it might not be that major if it's the CPU holding performance back.)

I can only play this game when running on of those mem "optimizers". It actually works since that crap is "managing" my ram better than the game itself Razz
kinda ridiculous. I do get some lagging every now and then when that optimizer frees memory but it gets playable to me.

i finished the main story missions yesterday, and i must say..if we put all the problems out, we have here very very good action game..very impressive imo graphicly and gameplay..very enjoyable very good feeling of gameplay and the taxi option is great..no need to travel half of the city again and again if you failed to finish mission.

for me it's the best game of the last few years of it's style.

I don't think anyone disputes that (that the game is great). Smile It's just all the bugs and the lack of optimization do hurt the overall experience in my opinion, and it's a shame.

Wasn't even that many bugs. I can't think of any outside of maybe a few trivial glitches. Certainly nothing that was game-breaking or even required a restart/reload.

Optimization is the sole negative this game faces. Well, that and the LIVE, Social Club, DRM bullshit.
