And medea is his wife in the myths.

There was mean, nice, fair etc. Very very similar. And in ME they even gave you paragon points etc! It's quite obvious they ripped that shit straight off.

Similiar? What are You smoking? The answers here aren't based on a "niceness" level, but on different kinds of characters.

Renegade, Ares. Fight first talk later. They are even in the same position on the speaky-circle.

Paragon, Apollo. Nice and compassionate. Again, same place on the wheel of words!

So yeah, it's a straight ripoff. Anyway, it's not necessarily a bad thing. It works for what it is. Game was pretty meh overall though. needed more combat, more diverse builds. More content. Just.. more.

You are missing 2 gods.

Hermes: Assertive
Athena: Insightful.

Maybe a second look at what the different answers are about won't hurt anyone.

So, one will then realise that the options are not the typical good/neutral/bad ones. They usually just designate the same approach on a matter in a different way, a way that is specific to each of the same 4 gods: Ares, Hermes, Athena, Apollo.

Also keep in mind that Jason is a "good" character by default. So, ie, if one chooses the Ares (god of war) way, it doesn't mean that he will turn evil, kill, be mean or necessary use a negative attitude. It's just a (different) way of expressing most of the times the same ideea with the same good purpose.

Yes, like Mass Effect, your answers really don't change anything. You won't get new quests or open new areas or unlock anything. It's just a way to get skill points towards a certain god.

Like I said several times, the system works.. it's just painfully obvious where it comes from. It shouldn't be a surprise though considering how many people came out and said the system should be copied from now on. It does give a cinematic feel to certain games, especially ones that have one path and one outcome. You can just tailor the flavor a bit.

The classic dialogue system was copied over and over again too, no one complained about that. This system will probably be used in alot of upcoming RPG's, nothing wrong with 'ripping off' something that works well.
The game's fun, the combat is actually diverse when you get used to it and the presentation is good enough, but there sure is alot of running around. And most of the time a quest will send you from one edge to the other and back again, extremely frustrating. Is this only the case at the beginning (2-3 hours gameplay), or is there alot of walking?

I thought the game was all right until I realized that it never opens up. It's just one tiny boat ride down the most linear river in all of Greek myth.

There's annoying backtracking.

Very little side quests.

No character development.

Etc.

Same problems as Mass Effects only worse because the game isn't as polished. Bioware had to create their own Lore for ME. Liquid already had the lore to take liberties with. Bah. Below average game.

I got a problem with my Logitech Rumblepad II while playing this game. The left analog stick is a pain in the ass. When I push the stick up, Jason moves backwards, and vice versa. Is there a way I could fix this in one of the config files in the game folder so that when i push the stick up Jason moves forward?

I fixed this issue. I git Logitech Dual Action which is basically Rumblepad without rumble. So it should work for you too.

Open up this file \Rise of the Argonauts\Engine\Config\BaseInput.ini

then edit this line from this:

Bindings=(Name="XboxTypeS_LeftY",Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=1.0 DeadZone=0.3")

to this:

Bindings=(Name="XboxTypeS_LeftY",Command="Axis aBaseY Speed=-1.0 DeadZone=0.3")

gosh. this game is super boring. i played for like 30 minutes then got horribily bored and lost interest in anything in game.

if you play at 2560 x 1600 resolution, the background for the power screen doesn't fill the whole screen. looks like the dev didn't consider making the texture big enough to cover for us 30" lcd screen gamers.

the 'finishing' moves are the only highlight. i keep bumping into invisible walls (really bad collision boxes).

the graphic is so-so for next gen game. also, what's with having to hold the direction then pressing a button to select a dialog choice? that's tedious. why not just keep when you move the direction to the dialog choice? that's a strange design decision.

i will probably revisit this game after i scrub clean everything you can do in far cry 2, pop, and gta iv (80% complete).

The beam is just the first stage. When he fires off balls, get close to him and powerblock. Jason will swing his shield and fire the balls back.

There should be a semi-interactive cutscene after you first beat that particular arena battle, perhaps some scripted event didn't trigger properly, if possible load a save from before initiating the battle from the smith in the arena, should allow all scripts to reload as the actual arena is another scene.

this game is annoying as sin. but i managed to beat it just so i can uninstall it and never ever have to look at it again.

there're some nice graphics in the later levels. I like the level with the giant prometheus and his brother, epimetheus, stuck in the ground. it's rare eye candy you get every now and then in the game.

i don't like the absent of a mini-map (had to switch to pause screen then select map; tedious). nor do i like the freakin' invisible walls and backtracking (especially during the 'arena' section of the game). why the heck do you have to wait for a npc to finish animation cycle (remove welding mask) before it'll talk to you? that eats up a good 10 seconds each time you want to talk to that npc.

why is heracles fat? it makes no sense to me. i figure since you don't ride a horse and have to run around a lot, you'll have muscle and no fat. but heracles is a fatty in the game.

recruiting npcs (medea, medusa, achilles, etc.) to join your team of argonauts is interesting. they each have a room on board your ship. plus you can talk to each between destination kinda like in kotor game.

anyway, the ending stinks. the decisions you make during the game doesn't seem to affect anything in the end. so then what point is it to play through a second time? none!

Hercules isn't exactly fat in the game. Wink I agree about the backtracking and invisible walls. Not having a minimap didn't bother me that much.

Ending wasn't great but IMO a solid game overall prob around 7.5/10.

Unreal Engine 3 by default uses PhysX for it's physics effects (As have all UE3 titles aside from Bioshock which used Havok if I remember correctly.)

Just install the latest drivers and you should be fine. Smile
(8.11.18 though those are only available via NVIDIA's PhysX package in the Cryostasis demo or the latest leaked 185.20 drivers but the older 8.10 PhysX drivers should work just fine.)

Now that you mention it I'm pretty sure that you're right about that, Stranglehold and Area 51 probably does use Havok instead of AGEIA/NVIDIA Physx.
(Bit unsure about Area 51 but Stranglehold advertised Havok as it's physics engine from what I remember.)

Sorry for necro'ing this thread (I don't have a nifty necro graphic like the rest of you, lately Crying or Very sad ), but just thought I'd let you guys know that this is on sale for another day and a half or so on Steam for $2.50. I'd actually purchased it some months prior during a Humble Bundle and completely forgotten about it!

Anyway, this game is an absolute gem if you love intricately written dialogue and story interwoven heavily with Greek mythos (aka you're a Xena or Hercules fan ). Its got a stellar voice cast too (Jennifer Hale and Nolan North, among others).

The combat borders on the mashy/easy side even on Legendary difficulty, but the skill tree is enough to be able to focus on whichever of the three weapons you desire (Ares - Mace, Athena - Spear, Hermes - Sword, Apollo - Shield/Heals). Visually its aged fairly well (for what you can expect from an '08 game). No complaints on that front really.

I've played a few hours, and had one crash about 10 minutes in, but other than that it's running smoothly on Win 8.1 x64. Playing with an x360 controller though so I can't vouch for how well keyboard works.

Anyway, give it a try if you enjoy games like Kingdoms of Amalur - well worth it!

I can never be free, because the shackles I wear can't be touched or be seen.

Game is a rough gem indeed. Played it on release, nut most people seem to not even know it exists.

It had a nice mix of adventuring, combat and light rpg.
