When using a xbox360 with a flashed drive, can you safely play originals online without the risk of getting your console banned?
Last time I checked people seemed to get banned once in a while when playing backups online, but I never got banned when I went online without a disc in the drive, so I'm assuming it's the backup discs that somehow reveal that your console is modded, but I don't really know.

Noone can say that for sure (expt some M$ employee).
It floated around some other forums, that people got the banhammered even with the originals and modded boxes.
Sadly it's not confirmed as of yet, what is checked and how when bans happen.

I can say for certain, in my OWN experience, that yes - you can play without fear of getting banned.
Before everyone jumps on me, let me explain. I had my 360 in February, flashed it the same day, and have been playing backups since then. I've got, and had over the course of the year, a ton of original games and I've been using iXtreme 1.4.1 on the BenQ drive. I've played originals and I've played backups --- all online. A lot. Hell, I've even played the leaked releases of Saints Row 2, Fable 2 and Fallout 3 -- and the broken SS releases of The Orange Box and Bad Company.
November came and went, the banhammer came down and wiped out a few thousand games, but it didn't touch me.
So, in my own opinion, it's perfectly safe to play online if you use iXtreme firmware. If by some freaky unfortunate glitch that you DO get banned NEXT NOVEMBER (MS only ban in waves and it's every November, so you've got a YEAR to go for the next one) -- then just sell your modded Xbox and a bunch of games on eBay and buy another one with the cash

play with a modded console, its the price you pay. Just have an unmodded one and buy the games for live
