You won't notice a difference, maybe on a huge 30" monitor or something. I used em and th eonly time I could see the slightest smiggen of a difference was when I zoomed all the way in, and in that case, your not able to play the game lol. Didn't affect my FPS either with the game completely maxed on my 8800GT
Also if anyone wants a decent FPS boost, go into your nvidia drivers and turn ageia physx processing to your CPU. Gives your GPU more power to work on just the gfx than trying to squeeze in the physics too.

I thought the Nvidia CUDA for physics was minimally taxing the GPU. Or is that not the case?

Guess I'll skip very high textures then, I checked comparison shots once again and really it's just not worth keeping an extra 7GB on the hard drives for such a trivial difference.
BTW anyone noticed that walking under the trees makes the game perform weird? I have constant 60FPS (vsync is crucial in this game) but when I walk under the trees FPS sometimes drops to 50. I don't get it why it's so demanding to make trees transparent. I remember in Titan Quest there was a similar issue where walking under the trees caused fps drop in some places.
At least I have a powerful video card now so I don't feel FPS drop unless I turn on fraps, but before on my 8800GT walking under the trees made the game feel choppy :s

I do notice a difference but as you say it's even more noticeable zoomed in - which is why I modified the camera setting in a sort of third-person perspective, still needs work though.
Also all patches so far has added or updated textures (Filling in those 1KB temprorary GraphicsXX.zip files)
Problem is that the HD "patch" is graphics20.zip to graphics24.zip and placed in a "hq" folder which means "high-quality" whereas the default textures are "mq" and the low-resolution ones "lq"
Problem being that the patch hasn't really updated the high-quality textures so they're either ignored or perhaps reverted back to mid-quality ones when used in the game.
(It's the graphics10.zip for HQ textures but only those that used high-quality by default such as the HUD and graphics11.zip for the rest - such as the new bosses and the "christmas" theme - which appears to be unused so far.)

Sorry for not reading all 50 pages again, but does this work now?
I know when it was first released they had triggers that stopped you from gaining exp or something. Is that still a problem?

So far it seems to work great, even with the latest patch. The new loader works great.

This is the one I'm using;
Sacred2 V2.31.0 Crack V2.0
Just remember to run "deletesecuromreg.exe" every day (well, if you play the game every day that is)

Using that comparison by PCgameshardware that's been linked on here 100 times doesn't do much. Play the game on any normal 20+ inch display and the difference is significant enough to warrant using them. I see absolutly no reason besides crashing issues against using them.
Where is iNatan when you need him. If you can't appreciate the difference (During gameplay not these static images of horrible examples) than I can say you are blind.
I still don't understand why people are swaying others away from the elite textures. It would make sense if everyone paid for the extra DVD but it's a free download so what's the big fuss.

I do/did play the game .. sure it was only on a 19" monitor, but the differences are very slight when you're playing - again, unless you're playing zoomed in as far as possible. I'm not trying to sway anyone away from trying them, just giving a rational viewpoint that could save 7GB of needless waste.

new update is out here is the info
Content Update Patch 2.34 Now Available
It's Christmas time in Ancaria, and we have a new content update for you to help celebrate! In addition to some important fixes, Content Update Patch 2.34 adds some new seasonal content for you to enjoy. The new content includes more sets as well as an island for you to find and explore.
Version 2.34.0 includes the following:
New Content:
* New area with 24 aboveground sectors and about 6 additional underground
sectors
* New textures and objects to create a snowy landscape
* Additional sounds for the snowy landscape
* 20 new creatures
* New NPCs
* New full quest chain
* Additional armor set for each character
* New armor items and weapons
Hint: The Christmas Island is shrouded in mystery so you can't see it on the world map. To begin your journey to it, find and speak to the Kobold in Thylysium, then sail to the port he unlocks.
Fixes:
* It was not possible to load an old save after patching, if the
character in the old save had an item in their hand (held by the mouse
pointer) at the time the save occurred.
* Characters over lvl 61 were unable to create game channels (only able
to join them).
* Sometimes after rebirth at a resurrection monolith, the character
started at an incorrect position on the map leading to a dead end.
* The fourth Guardian of the Big Machine could sometimes be killed while
it still idled. This skipped the end boss fight.
* Crystal Monster: The lightbeam adjustment didn’t rotate which led to
confusion about why the hero was stunned.
* When tabbing out of the game then going back, the position of the
mounted hero had changed.
* Temple Guardian’s “Amplifying Discharge” with Mods 1b & 2b "
Ricochet": Rebounding projectiles did not cause further damage after
the first rebound.
* Temple Guardian’s “Combat Alert” with Mod 1a "Assault": The
increase in attack value was not shown on the tooltip.
* Temple Guardian’s “Dedicated Blow”: The damage conversion for
'prone to ice' for fire elementals converted damage into poison.
* High Elf’s “Blazing Tempest” dealt too much damage.
* High Elf’s “Fire Demon” with just achieved mod "Enliven": The
increased damage was only visible after changing the CA slots. New
damage is now instantly shown.
* High Elf’s “Glacial Thorns” dealt too much damage and caused
massive frame rate fall off when used on bosses.
* The “Fire Demon” and “Moribund Animus” buffs restarted
automatically. Now you need to reactivate them again manually.
* Inquisitor‘s “Ruthless Mutilation” didn’t work properly with
ranged weapons.
* Shadow Warrior’s “Rallied Souls” with Mod 1a "Armament"
resistance values were too high.
* Seraphim’s “Archangel's Wrath” with Mod 1b "Salve": Additional
fireball was added but damage didn’t decrease.
* At the end of a combat-art move the Dryad erroneously shot another
round of shuriken/knifes.
* Dryad’s Hireling “Moribund Animus” no longer lies down every few
seconds.
* It was possible to forge high-level items into low-level weapons and
armor. This could lead to overpowered items. Now the highest level of
the forged items will be the new level of the item.
* Slot boni on forged items didn’t work properly. Now silver slots give
7 % bonus and gold slots give 15 % bonus.
* Item bonus "+x to all CA’s" didn’t work correctly.
* Monster attacks had a motionblur-effect that lasted too long.
* The audio option “Character Effects on Center” had no effect on
playback in 5.1 surround sound.
* Several sound issues fixed for boss music, deathsplatter-effect and
unique items.
* Missing sound profiles added for T-mutant Human and High Elves as well
as for new mini-bosses.
* All sounds were initiated with a short snapping sound.
* Singleplayer CoOp: When you started an SP game and opened the game as
MP, the server started without a name. Now the name is
CharacternameXXXX where XXXX stands for a random 4 digit number.
* Rivers had dust clouds instead of water splashes.
* Inventory picture for “Celdrahil's Gloves” was missing.
hopefully it wont take long to find a crack for it

Did the gameplay get any better/diverse with the patches? Maybe it's time now to buy this one.

It's been improved a bit but no major changes yet, though game balance has been tweaked further.
This patch also has a check for modified files so back those up if you use modifications or similar alterations.
EDIT: And that check takes fucking forever, does it check inside those .zip archives or something?
EDIT: Patching also took a while but finished without errors.

The game is great, I love it. Was a big fan of Sacred Gold.. I even still play that with my brother from time to time.
The online aspect is decent, it still needs a bit of work.. but with the latest patch came the Sacred.net beta, which lets people from around the world play together. You create and account, right within the game, there's a ladder now as well. You can play a campaign server, or a free play server, and as well a PvP server. It's getting better and better. I would definitely recommend buying it, I did, and I haven't regretted it yet.. still some kinks to work out but the game is fantastic otherwise.
Cheers
