Well, it doesn't look better than xbox360 version. Maybe higher resolution, but edges are very sharp.

What can I say, controls are pretty much as you'd expect, move with WSAD plus shift to sprint and the mouse to move the camera or turn the character and mouse buttons to attack. (So far I've only pushed and punched a few pedestrians who fled shortly afterwards.)

(I guess it can also recognize most gamepads and work with those if they have a similar layout to the X360 pad, ofcourse it'll work natively with the official X360 pad for PC, from what I've read atleast.)

Similar with car controls but once again I haven't driven that much.

Physics are very well done and also quite realistic which is always a plus but I don't think it's much different from the console versions.

Game uses Windows Live integrated to it but it's become a bit better in the latest version, haven't had any problems with it but it can probably be a hinder to some.

Also the settings files (Plus savegames) is protected or encrypted somehow and cant' be tweaked or altered normally.

EDIT: Unsure if it looks different between ATI or NVIDIA but I don't think so, guess the latest NV cards offer better performance at the moment though.

JB (or anyone else who's playing already): how's the gun aiming/shooting when you're in the car? I guess you use WASD for car controls too?

Also curious about helicopter movement w/ a keyboard/mouse combo, that always was less than stellar in earlier GTAs.

Thanks for the shots, JBeckman! It looks worse and worse with every posted screenshot! Hell, even the graphics patch for SA looked better than this!

Rolling Eyes

They don't look as good as we hoped, but saying that SA had better graphics with the GP is a little over the top to me (assuming we are talking about the same graphic patch).

I have a simple computer:
AMD 64 X2 4400
2GB Ram
8800GT

It's decent enough for me, and gives me a nice perfomance on most games on resolutions that I can stand.

But I'm afraid to run GTA IV on it... With the kind of perfomance you guys are getting on those fantastic rigs I can only imagine what it will do to my poor PC. Crying or Very sad

Those view distance options are the major ones to lower if you want increased performance, having the game drawing cars and pedestrians to the edge of the city looks nice but really stresses the hardware.
(Plus all the other stuff like high detail buildings and other objects.)

Didn't try it but I'll experiment a bit with them later on to see just how big the performance hit or gain actually is.
(Currently creating that image I talked about to use as a digital backup.)

I'm sorry, I don't have time to look for the graphics patch I am talking about. It was posted here a few months ago. Only from shot-by-shot comparison, SA+GP looks better to me.

Haha, it's more so I won't have to worry or needing to switch physical discs as the game uses a DVD check ontop of this activation system, plus didn't someone already upload a image of the game?
(Might have been a fake though.)

I can't wait to get rolled when I try running this game (at 7PM EST of course because Valve are douches) boy, I might have to go back to Crysis...a game that I can run fairly well

a post:
OK so ive installed and ran GTA PC and its runs like a bloody dog, 21.86fps average!! this is bloody sh*t!

AMD X2 Dual core 6000+ (3ghz)
4gb DDR2 6400 crosshair
Geforce 8800GTX 768mb (recents drivers)

direct X and all drivers are upto date

ive spoken with R* Support and told them and they class 20fps as 'playable' which is utter bollocks! then they tried to blame my processor!

If you bought it on D2D what's the point of cracking it?

They all use online activation you know. Smile
(Unsure how it works with Steam and D2D though I'm sure you'll need to activate it.)

I hope not (though its clearly a game requirement) because I don't know which one to install, I have XP 64 and can only find the 32 bit one, I found a 64 bit version but it says its for Win Server 2003 or something

SP3 came through on Win Update on my other 32 bit machine but not mine

i haven't bought it. im just saying, D2D will obviously have no disk check and if it uses the paul.dll securom system, darcoder could crack it and put out a rls.

Yeah but I reckon that at this point the game has already been officially released in the US, so it should be "activateable".

Edit: Oh, thought you had bought it Razz

Sorry if I misunderstood TEspinha, I use the retail edition myself but I wouldn't mind a crack to get rid of the CD-check and activation entirely.
(That said I don't really mind them if they work and don't cause problems with the actual game or install process and it beats strange checks causing side issues in the game.)

EDIT: Image works perfectly, cloning the game wouldn't be a problem.

Sure does look like an real shitty port when reading comments above and also from GTAforums Sad
Was really looking forward for it and actually it was to be the first game I would bought this year Smile
well...guess not.
And I'm pretty sure there's not gonna be a patch from R* to make it run any better (maybe just a tiny change), but it's a shitty port and that's that.

If people were saying it ran perfectly I would have bought it blind probably... But now I first need to see how it runs...

Well done R*, you really convince people NOT to buy GTA IV without testing it first.
