I have bought 4 licenses for this game - but with a 20 gig monthly download limit, i could only get two machines loaded before i maxed out.
I wanted to put the game on my 3rd (slower) machine. So i downloaded the 1 gig cracked version. I extracted the game...logged into my 3rd legit steam account and managed to get a network game running - however the machine using the cracked version keeps crashing saying "Disconnected from server". I'm not sure if it is the machine or the version i'm running. (it plays okay in single player)
I have been able to copy Counterstrike from one machine to another and get it working - can this be done with L4 Dead? If not is there a way to get the cracked version working with with a legit login?
I'm not using the Skidrow relases, but the one prior called "No Steam PC - Left for dead".
Obviously i haven't run the crack that came with this.

Got a language problem..
bought the retail version and it says it has russian language audio...i try and set it in the option ingame but still the game voices are in english even if in options it says RUSSIAN...wierd..anyone know whats the deal?

Uh oh, You don't need to mess with cracked releases and all this shit, just copy L4D game content in steam directory from a computer that already has it to another computer. Run steam and it'll detect that files are already there.

If i buy the game (legal) from a store. Insted of sending me the box in the mail is it possible that they just send the cdkey in the e-mail? Can I then download the game from steam and use the key i bought?

Yes you can, my mrs got the boxed version while she was out shopping and wasn't back when i got home from work so i got her to text me the serial number. You just have to go to 'activate product on steam' and you can download.
I don't know if the shop will email you the key though, i guess you can ask them before you buy it.
I think play.co.uk sells cd-keys only for games, I'm pretty sure I've used them for that before. (edit: It was probably a MMO release so a special case.)
But really, if you're gonna buy over the internet why don't you just buy over steam? Think that 5$ you save will turn your home economy around?

well if you buy it from an actual retail store they won't do it. but theres a lot of sellers on ebay who would be glad to open it up and send you the key. I've done it before. I wanted to get kaspersky running and was going to take a few days to ship so the lady with my permission opened up the retail packaging and emailed me the key.

yeap naturally the key must be unused and the account real. u can't unlock steam games with used keys. if u get the boxed retail version it's like the steam version anyway. this game only for digital download is avaiable. u must first create an account and then use a new key to unlock your game before u can download it for entire from steam

ya correct. Honestly, retail and DD is both 50 bucks. So either way, the game will be connected to your steam account. Might as well get the retail so you at least have the DVD for fast installs.
I've found out you can play through Hamachi if you know what you're doing. Just played through the entire campaign with a friend, and will try again when we get another one.
After first map, my m8 start lagging and the game always says "Trying to reconnect" (or something like that) .
