but i guess when one serial pops up 5 million times on the weekend before official release on their authentication-servers that the chances are good that it ll be banned nonetheless
True
But the point i was trying to make was that they actually gave a fuck to what the legitimate customers were complaining about the shitty "3 times activation" method companies like EA were using, wich only gives headaches to people who pays for their games.
yeah, but thats ridiculous anyways and a reason to not buy such a product imho
It's ridiculous that a company is trying to protect its product?

it is when the effects are the oposites of the goals
but if they have though at least a little before acting, they would know that their protections are useless
i m actually not fast enough to keep up with the bullshit in the thread. And i m not even sure, if cleaning up nearly one full page of bullshit makes sense at the moment.
EDIT: temporary closed the thread. Five users have been banned for the trolling-bullshit in the games section. Two other users, who answered back with insults have not been banned, because i felt that they only reacted on the bullshit. Next time they will be banned as well...
Love freedom, so sandbox games imo present the ultimate opportunity to express creativity with regards to gameplay and I never found any bugs while playing through the PS3 version..

The protection is not useless. The programers know that protections like securom or starforce aren't 100% effective. Their only goal is to try to stop a early leak so those people who are still on the fence, unsure whether to buy a legal copy or download it, have an opportunity to buy legaly first, rather than having the option to download it a week early.
Game protections aren't whims of programers who are intent on screwing the gaming population.

Doesn't it get boring? Like being in a candy store for the first time and you have 2 dollars and every candy in it is under 1.50. You dunno what to buy. So you go around looking at everything and then you try something and you get bored and you feel disappointed.
I found that to be the problem with GTA series. No real need to go on with the story. You start with a car, run people over, get a guy / money, shoot a lot of people, run from cops and then repeat whenever you're bored again. I don't think I ever finished a story in any GTA 3+ series. It would be a great game if it had like random mission pop up while you enjoyed the sandbox game. Like, you're running about smacking fags with a b-ball bat and your cell rings and you have to get somewhere or else you lose cred. But enabling missions, is just not that fun. You have to force yourself to throw away the sandbox experience, and play the story. I hate that.
If they added time to spiderman sandbox games. Or these games. Like, lets say there's a heist at 530 on a friday. You gotta play the game at 530 on a friday so you can partake during the heist. Y'know. Have some incentive. Force you to play. Only reason I ever played GTA games was just to so i can enter a cheat, go into a mall or a heavy populated area and shoot random people and then use a rocket launcher at the cops.
There's very little replay value in these games for me. Once you do everything in the first 10 minutes of gameplay, the rest is just repetative. Doesn't matter if locales are enabled and you get better cars and this and that. There's just not enough to go through to actually love it.
Being a sanbox game doesn't give it unlimited replay value. Once you get bored with killing people, you have driving left or walking left. I do enough of that in real life.

And that's exactly what i was pointing, and i think lutzifer understood.... With the DRM version used in GTAIV, you just need an online activation after install (to ensure the game is keeping it's street date, and that you have a valid serial, cd and whatnot) and screw the subsequent activations, because they understood the REAL piracy that affect sales was the cracking methods, not someone handing their dvd's to another person, so, they saw that the limit of online activations was pure bs... In the interview on IGN i posted, they said a method to activate on PC's without internet connection was on the works too...

facts:
-good games with no protections: best sellers (oblivion?)
-games with million dollars protection: don't stop pirating (spore most downloaded game ever)
make good game without protections means many sells and money
make good game witha anoying protections, people don't want it, because they don't want more shitwares on their computers
make bad game with or without protections, no sells, no money, but you can still blame pirates

I totally agree, I can think of 3 games off the top of my head I bought, then had to pirate to get them working correctly.
Think of the people that had the same issues as me that aren't as computer literate, bought it, couldn't play it. and said no more to that company. Protection screwed them out of future sales.
I buy games that I think are worth it..but they are FEW and FAR between.
Me Personally, I think everyone should be forced to pirate for a few months.
Why you ask?
So they can see what a good game is, and what a bad game is...so they can have a broad spectrum of games to compare what they consider money worthy, not just the 5 games that grandma bought them for christmas out of the bargain bin as a basis of what makes a 'good' game.
Too many games that suck get bought because people have only bought 4-5 games before, and consider them to be outstanding (by lack of other gaming options to compare them to)
Show the devs that the player base isn't blinded by horse blinders into a narrow field of what they expect and assume is good.
Ive got too many cousins playing SHITTY games they got from someone as a gift, claim they are great games. I always give them a few older GOOD games to play on DVD..and they are blow away with what a decent game is actually like.
anyway my point was:
Protection screws the 75% of legit people that buy games by making them jump thru hoops and say to themselves "wow my consoles a lot easier to get games working on than this PC", while the 25% that know how to get and install the pirated ones "mount, install, copy crack, play" all with ease.

all this talk about how bad is the protection used in GTa IV is rubbish & only bothers pirates,if you buy your LEGIT copy then you wouldn't really care about the activation process what so ever.
don't hate rockstar they're just trying to protect their investment from thieves & end of the day this is good thing for the pc gaming industry wjich will mean more devs make pc games.

Ive already bought it.
Im not saying the protection in this one is bad...im talking the industry in general

GTA lost it charm loong time ago... GTA:VC was the last nice GTA game they made..
TBH the focus WAAAAY to much on a serious story in this one. More sandbox and not so serious!
DLC has been priced at 19.99$ still no word about a PC version but it'll probably happen later seeing as Microsoft has plans for GTA IV with the PC version of their Marketplace service.

I was drawn into the story with this one with the whole "mob" storyline etc but what really killed it is they revolved the game FAR to much around the cell phone aspect. Most of the story takes place with conversations over it, so if your on the phone and decide to get in a car or push 1 wrong button, you hang up the cell phone instantly and either you miss out on the whole conversation and the mission is activated or you have to wait 5-10 minutes for the asshole to call back.
What's worse is when your concentrating on a mission and you get 1 of these 1297234523 asshole friends who keep calling and txting you to bug you to go out and see tits or get a bite to eat to keep up your "friend" aspect which is fucking worthless.

Speaking of things like that "Games for Windows Live" is pretty active when it comes to memory alterations from trainers and similar (Helps when playing MP though, less cheating.), probably won't work all that well aside from any eventual ingame codes.
(Same with every title that has used "Live")
aaaaaaa come on people.... with the game already another booring weekend... tuesday i go to work....... RELOADED GO GO GO RELOADED, razor1911, HOODLUM...

Why are people still posting in this thread? Maybe you guys should wait until um, you know when the games actually out and there's something to talk about.

So you're posting on the thread to say people shouldn't post on the thread? Geez, I guess they're the sad ones with nothing better to do and not you....
Upload it you mean? probably won't work due to the online verification protection and if it has a release date check he probably can't even play the game.
