Well, phlux, I have a suspicion you still pronounce your last name in a polish way. I have a funny last name and if i pronounce it how its supposed to be, its dumb and annyoing.
But my dad and mom 'canadianized it" a long time ago (party cause my mom couldnt pronounce it).
So now it comes across as a Canadian name. And no one thinks differently....unless I tell someone how its truly pronounced.

So just canadianized your name. Easier than changing your name. Since your male, you shouldnt change your last name bro...you have to carry on the blood line ( I know thats a traditional way of looking at it, but its the truth).

I like that idea. Canadianized your name. I kinda don't agree on going with a name from a culture not your own. It is kinda missleading.

I think nature sounding last names are cool. Like Forest, Winter, Oak, Rivers, Summers, Meadows.

The only reason I Canadianized my name (well, it was actually my mom's doing when she married my dad) was because ppl could never pronounce it right or even close to how its pronounced. Especially telemarketers or when you go somewhere (say a doc office or something like that) where they call you by your last name.

And no, Im not saying what it is Smile Dont want my last name on the internet, let alone the board.

I can totally relate to this. My last name comes from a common German last name. My ancestor changed it slightly when he came to America in the 1800's. I have heard my last name basterdized in so many ways. When someone asks my name I say it then immediately spell it. My wife, who had a totally common Irish last name, still hasn't gotten over people mis-pronouncing it. I just take it in stride now.

In response to the discussion of "canadianizing" my name. It's a clear and defined no. I want nothing to do with the bloodline it comes from.

I have british, welsh, french, polish, russian all in my family tree as close as my grandparents... so I've got a lot to choose from.
