Aside from the protection (Lack of revoke utility aside from perhaps uninstalling while being connected to the net.) I've had no problems with the game, ended up being a chance as I didn't know much about it but I don't regret the purchase.
(It's not all that intrusive either and you can now uninstall SecuROM.)

Well, there just aren't as many buttons around the arrows as there are around WASD, and they are also harder to reach.
But maybe he uses keyboard-look! That would give him another free hand Wink

depends on the keyboard really.

 Spoiler:

I've got this one so more buttons are mashed around the arrow keys. Though with a keyboard like this, I highly doubt anyone would have bought it to just use the arrow keys lol

Would be nice if you could buy only the left part of that keyboard and use it via USB or so. Smile

Why the fuck would anyone use WASD? Its the most nonsensical layout ever.
If anything, it makes more sense to use ESDF (bump on the F so when you get startled you know your hand is back on the right mappings)

I myself have always used Arrow Keys:

Movement = Arrow Keys
Jump = Right Shift
Crouch = Right Ctrl
Fire = Left Mouse
Secondary Fire/Scope = Right Mouse
Sprint = Big Thumb Mouse Button
VOIP = Little Thumb Mouse Button
Reload = Scroll Wheel Click

Use/Prone = Numpad 0
Grenade/All Else = Numpad 1, Numpad 4

WASD makes me FLASD Very Happy

And developers need to stop being lazy cocksuckers and realize that mice have a minimum of 5 buttons now'a'days (2 thumb buttons) and they ALL need to be mappable. Also, there is NO EXCUSE for not being able to map the controls to however you chose, its simply developer laziness and stupidity.

Why should I be forced to use a 3rd party program that runs in the background to simply be able to map a button? How fucking difficult is it for the developer to make the game recognize the mapping in the first place? Are they all using 2 button Microsoft mice from fucking 1995 in the dev. studio? Maybe they ought to rethink their fucking expense budget.

I've played games from 2001 that recognize Mouse4 and Mouse5, yet modern day games can't seem to very often - LAZY AND INCOMPETENT DEV. TEAMS.

Immunity, you have any idea in coding? It's not as simple as supporting the regular three buttons. And if you don't use your mouse' software, you're using 50% of its capabilities anyway.

Kinda depends on the mouse. I wouldn't bother with setpoint for a g3/g5/g8 from logitech(you can change the DPI on the fly with the mouse itself), but if you're using something like the MX Revolution you NEED to install setpoint or you won't have a middle click :\. Personally I can't stand setpoint because it just feels like a bloated tool, despite not using much at all for resources.

50% of the capabilities of my mouse?
What kind of mouse are you using? Does it have 16 buttons and give blow jobs or what? Very Happy

My Logitech MX-518 has on the fly sensitivity change, and 2 thumb buttons. All of which work without any app.
I'm not going to run some Logitech bloatware in the background because some lazy fucker on EA's code team hasn't looked at a calendar in about a decade and doesn't realize its 2008.

I don't know anything about the way the software works, but I imagine it could be that every mouse producer uses their own code for the mouse buttons 3-5, so a game developer would have to add every single mouse individually...

This was probably mentioned earlier in the thread but I just started playing this the other day even though I still hate the controls (keys+mouse) in this game, they're just awful.

Anyway, it's a blatant copy of some elements of System Shock 2. It's like they took SS2, removed SHODAN and added some survival-horror elements to it.

1. Abandoned space ship/station - Check
2. Organic mutated freaks/monsters trying to kill you - Check
3. You can move around with a tram - Check
4. You barely see a single living human - Check
5. You pick up audio logs of crew members - Check

It's basically a modern remake/reinvention of the second half of System Shock 2, and it's not a bad game to copy (SS2 is among my all-time top 5). Just thought I'd share my reflection with others. Wink

It is maxed already. Sometimes it works better than other times, no idea why it's changing. Well, I do, the game was designed for console controllers and when they ported it they didn't spend that much time on the controls for the PC. Still, good game if I ignore the times when the controls make me swear out loud.

The controls and the camera/field of view suck big time. But the gameplay and atmosphere makes up for it !!!

Also, it runs extremely well on weak PCs. (Older,laptops,etc)

Yeah, a gamepad is really recommended for this game. I use the PS3 controller and it works great, aiming is much better now Smile
