the second wow expansion comes out thursday and I'm sitting here wondering If I should re activate my account and buy this... anyone going to get this?

I've got a lvl 70 rogue with all season 3 gear. I enjoy playing MMO's casually to pvp, I stopped playing wow to play AOC and eventually gave up on that game because of the bullshit.

can you dig up some gameplay vids of that expack for me please, I would like to see the game in action from a players point of view. I don't have much money to spend on games right now until after the holidays are over so my choices right now are either the WOW xpack or cod5, or this game if the game play vids are something that interests me.

WOW really never gets in way of my life or family, I've been part of a smaller guild and I still chat with them on vent now and then, we all play very casually, our guild has over 100 people who will log on actively, then disappear for months then come back over and over again. We don't do anything except pvp together and talk on vent. It's really cool and I wouldnt have it any other way (all the big raiding guilds and what not).

I'll check back tomorrow, off to bed.

I will play it. I'm a casual mmo player.. Some now and then. Not part of some huge guild or anything, just some leveling/pvp with friends.

70 Rogue
70 Shaman
70 Paladin
+ around 10 (60's-65's)
I used this "refer-a-friend" system to level all my alts to 60 (3*EXP).

Been inactive for a couple of months now. But will level a Death Knight with a friend too.
This is the last Expansion I'll buy for this game me thinks... I'm more of an FPS gamer, not any gear difference there (maybe weapon choices..).

Squirrely: Now come on y'all. We can't waste time arguing. There could still be survivors out there. We need to hunt them down, and kill them.
Beary: How about we kill them, and then rape their bodies so we can use their blood as lubricant.

Hypocrite much? All of the MMO's are evil time sinks, there ARE NO EXCEPTIONS. I know EVE players tend to think of themselves as a higher class but really they aren't, EVE is just another shitty time sink.

I'm kinda in the same bind as the OP,
Coming from DAOC, I can't help but crave large scale pvp... and thats something I don't think Wrath will have unfortunately.

All the "beta" reviews I have seen have pegged it as just another pve expansion.

So far I've been playing Warhammer and loving it, the RVR is pretty great, really brings back that "big battle" feel - but its still pretty early in the game.

In eve you can atleast have fun without having to grind levels and without having to do so with a multitude of charecters to be successful or enjoy the game, but thats another discussion entirely.

I go back to eve now and again, but heck Im all over the place i never know what to get on with lol. and I had 2 accounts which made it worse for deciding what to do, although a pure industrial account was nice, and he was very close to the nice big freighter flying skill, all I had to do was buy it i think and train..

I found its so important to focus on an area ur interested in for ur skill path training, but heck i loved doing it all lol, so that didnt help P

Never played any MMO's before, but EVE seems to be different. Does it possible to play it as a renegade / lone wolf ? Is the most of the game is just a speedy mIRC alike chat, where you spend time coordinating raids ?

Yahtzee's review is not fair as he never came out of empire "safe" zone or "noob" area if you will.
And as far as I can tell he didn't go pirate either, which is how you can go 'lone wolf' so he didn't really experience the game at all.
Theres a lot of russians playing the game, a few russian specific alliances as well
like "RED" and "Solar Fleet".
Eve is the perfect pvp game, it's also a great pve game with an indepth crafting and economical system.

I played EVE like mad for 4 years, had a 50mil SP character, but eventually had to ditch it for some sun and life in music. To the point however; there's enough grind to be found on EVE, it's not that far in that regard from some popular MMOs. As for being time consuming, I find it to be the MOST time/life consuming game I have EVER played...don't get me wrong, I still love it and I had a blast, but I made some sacrifices for it; however meaningless they may be since I was in my late teens. As for WOW...eh...even mentioning it makes me tired, think I'm gonna snooze and let one of the million BOTS or Chinese dudes level up my character.

Well, the main difference between EVE and WOW is that EVE is a sandbox game where you get plenty of tools and you are free to do whatever you want with it basically, whereas in WOW you are pretty much restricted to quests and grinding monsters for XP and more quests and instances.. Since there is little else in the game to do than to level up and grind for gear, you just do the things that lead to these two things.. that is: grinding xp and grinding instances.

In EVE, theres no XP to begin with... instead theres a time based skill system, where you accumulate SP over time and there is no way to enhance that through grinding. This obviously has its drawbacks and advantages...

As for there being no grind in EVE.. that just isnt really true. In EVE, wealth is power.. one form of power at least.. since most of the stuff you do will cost you ISK (the eve currency) - like buying ships, equipment, ammo, services, etc - you will require a constant supply of ISK.. now theres plenty of ways to get ISK.. some are more creative than others, but the easiest of those ways is just going out there and grinding NPCs for it.

Whats the real charm of EVE? Well.. Its completely player driven, meaning that basically apart from a few trade goods everything you buy on the marked is built somewhere in the game by some player. Be that ship, equipment, ammo, rig, you name it. The production chain has plenty of links.. from simple mined minerals to rare materials mined by small orbital platforms set up next to moons or advanced materials created through combining various base elements together.. plenty of things needed to build the stuff you buy and since the high value resources are rare and limited in supply, there is a constant fight going between players, corporations and the power blocks the corporations belong to, to control these resources.

With that we got to the final point.. where does all the things go that people build.. One of the flaws i find in WOW is that even though it has crafting, apart from a few things like potions basically everything you craft is permanent and once someone got it, he will never get one again..

EVE is a non-consentual PVP game, meaning that apart from the core game systems - the so called high security empire space - the whole game is open to PVP.. When you are killed in PvP, your ship is destroyed with only a portion of its cargo and fitted modules remaining for the enemy - or your friend - to loot.

With this, EVE managed to create the game that has a completely player driven economy, which can actually sustain itself. If you live from building ships, you can be sure there will always be demand for your work.. If you live from mining, there will always be demand for that too.. no matter what part of the industrial chain you are in, the whole industry is booming as there are hundreds of people killing eachother all around the game for profit, for territory or just for fun.

EVE and addiction:
It is a very deep game that can easily eat your life, chew it and spit it out five years later. Why?
EVE promotes team play. With the harsh rules of the EVE universe - severity of pvp losses, lesser importance of skill compared to equipment and numbers - people tend to group up for more than just the daily raid. The no.1 resource in EVE is the ammount of your friends. The ammount of people you can call on when you are in trouble. The people who watch your 6.
With teamplay comes personal bonds.. if you play with some guys for years then you are bound to become friends eventually.. unless you disagree and leave the bunch. Massive player meetings are quite common for EVE alliances / corporations. The most important one being organized by the developer itself, called the EVE-O fanfest and it is held every year. Another great event is the BOB BBQ organized by the in-game alliance Band of Brothers and also held every year.
As you can probably guess, the average player is not your 14-15 y/o Little Billy, in fact the average player age of EVE is well above 22-24. This means a rather mature playing environment, which again adds to the value of the game.

EVE and elitism..
Since it is about the only non-consentual fully PVP game out there right now, it is where most of the PVP oriented players go. Those players tend to look down on the so called carebears - the players who are afraid to PvP, dislike killing other players, or prefer to just focus on the industrial or PVE side of the game. Obviously the PvPers in EVE eventually realize that they depend on the work of the carebear as without them they would have no ship to fly, not ammo to fire and yes.. without them, they would have no easy targets. Some carebears also realize that they depend on the PVPers as without them the economy of EVE would come to a halt.. nonetheless.. the battle between the two classes is everlasting and if you realize what i wrote above yourself.. it is actually quite fun to watch Smile

Still.. the PVP mentality tends to creep into their everyday communication about EVE as well.

I think i could go on and on and on.. but i rather stop, after all.. this is a thread about a WOW expansion and i dont really want to be extremely off topic here. Smile
