I have successfully used Half-Life Source WORKING GUSoldier with the Vengeance release of Half-Life 2

getting the gcf because the node graph error is an annoyance & to add it to the DVD

Yes, but it you use the .gcf you won't have the node error using it and you can incorporate into the Veng DVD cabs.

good news, u dont have to be online for the saves to work.
stupid me i forgot something.
in steamemu.ini in folder
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2
set SteamOnline=0
but keep youre username and password there.
and steam needs to be running before u play, when steam pops up it gives u the option to start in offline mode.
so now it works.., just a little work if u change from being online to offline

just want to add that, steamemu.ini if left unedited for halflife 2 that is no username/password and set SteamOnline=0 allows u to play w/o needing to run steam again also run steam-offline.reg before trying to play hl2 single player if u have used steam-online.reg before!!! |
Not working for me  I connect to Steam, ran the SteamOffline.reg and set SteamOnline=0. Still crashes when saving. Am I missing something? is there a fix in the works Vengance?

since u mentioned steamoffline and SteamOnline=0 im guessing ure playing without net connection.
u need a valid steam account, use ure username and password in the .ini file
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2
start steam, and it will tell u to choose offline mode when ure not connected.
use the same shortcut that was created by the update.
and yes, steam needs to be running

Something is wrong with release or crack because in the nfo for the release they say that OFFLINE MODE is for people who dont want to have Steam running whatsoever to play Half-Life 2.

ok, a little step by step of what i did.
1: installed vengeance dvd hl2
2:installed Half-Life 2 & Counter-Strike Source Protocol v7 Update (c) Valve
3: installed Half-Life 2 (c) Valve *Deathmatch Addon*
(follow the NFO `s)
then used steam "C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\Steam.exe" created a new account, minimized that one.
went to
C:\Program Files\Valve\Steam\SteamApps\User\Half-Life 2
opened steamemu.ini
; Enable online Steam play
; This enables the ability to play Half-Life 2: Deathmatch and Counter-Strike: Source on any server.
; Log in to the Valve Steam client with a valid steam account (no subscriptions to games needed)
; And enter the Steam information here
; For example:
; SteamOnline=1
; SteamUser=MySteamUser
; SteamPassword=MySteamPassword
SteamOnline=1
SteamUser=set ure steam username
SteamPassword=and ure password
then minimized that window, ran hl2 and no save errors.
without netconnection set steamonline to 0, but still open steam first.
and play in offline mode.
that works for me for now.

lucky u, I must say that method doesnt work for me or my friends....also the method I mentioned earlier worked once but after that its giving the error...

I get an out of memory error each time I try to install this update. I have the CD Version of the Vengeance release and I have tried restoring the original files by doing a brand new reintall, I have tried different partitions, I even booted in safe mode, but I am still unable to complete the install. After I select the directory, it takes like 3 minutes, then says it is ready to update Half Life 2 and COunterstrike, then when I click next, the progress bar increases for like 3 seconds then it says out of memory, I have to install later. Anyone kinow why it is doing this?

Are you sure you have enough free space on your drive , as it unpacks and repacks the gcf files.
Also after installing the patch you get no save errors if you use the 1.10 steam emu. But I dont know if that ver works online because the multiplayer side of the game does not interest me.

well i updated via the patch, and have tried everything posted here and still get the same error when it tries to save, so i dunno what the issue could be. might just have to uninstall, and not install the patch see if that fixes anything.
Killin' n00bs one at a time.

Yes dont install the desktop icons when installing the game , it tells you that in the nfo. Also Grab the Half-Life 2 (c) Valve *CD Version Upgrade*
and you won't have any problems ( If you want to run the vengence installer on the cd, it tells you to copy it to your steam dir).

I have found the fix for the save error.
The error occurs with Vengeance Steam Emulator v2.0 for HL2.
Do NOT install Vengeance Steam Emulator v2.0 for HL2. (If you have already installed this, you must uninstall & reinstall Half-Life 2) (I also removed the registry entries just in case)
***THE ORDER IS IMPORTANT***
Install Half-Life 2
Install Vengeance Steam Emulator v1.10 for HL2 (from Half-Life 2 Valve *CD Version Upgrade* or the Vengeance DVD release)
Run patch.exe from Half-Life 2 & Counter-Strike Source Protocol v7 Update
Install Vengeance Steam Emulator v2.0 for CSS.
Install Half-Life 2 Deathmatch Addon
Run Steam Online.reg
Edit the steamemu.ini in Counter-Strike Source & Half-Life 2 Deathmatch folders

dude client.dll for hl2 is just not good cracked.. it still has checks.

just try it, unless you are too busy promoting the EMPORiO release.
it is true that the Counter-Strike_Source_UPDATES_7-EMPORiO is more up to date than this release.... but I believe the topic is about the Half-Life_2_and_CS_Source_Protocol_v7_Update-VENGEANCE release

I have found that if you have installed the Vengeance Steam Emulator v2.0 for HL2, installing the Vengeance Steam Emulator v1.10 for HL2 will not fix the save error
Also the order is important, you must install the Vengeance Steam Emulator v1.10 before you run the patch.exe from Half-Life 2 & Counter-Strike Source Protocol v7 Update
VENGEANCE should release a PROPER of this release with the new Steam updates

from the nfo...
Your GCF's MUST be the exact ones from the CD version or DVD version.
so this will work with the CD or DVD version since the install is the same, the VENGEANCE Steam emulator is the only difference (the DVD has a newer version)

If the client.dll is the same.. then they fucked up =/
because the "Connection Lost" stuff is a checker from valve(there are 15 of them in client.dll)
Anywayz I don't think they will do another GCF :/

what do those checks matter in Half-Life 2?
I can understand for Counter-Strike Source & Half-Life 2 Deathmatch... but with the the Vengeance Steam Emulator v1.10 for HL2 no one has a problem playing single player Half-Life 2
