|
 |
Playing Red Alert 3 got me thinking.
Right now Japan has in its national constitution that it will only engage in war as a matter of domestic defence. So it will probably not evolve a big military any time soon.
But could it happen? Could Japan be one of the most advanced military powers in the world? Japan is far more advanced in mot civilian techs and other things than any other country.
So could it happen? Could we see a Japan with the most advanced military ever if they wanted?

Let Japan get its sovereignty back first, then we can talk about it being a military power.

It will never happen. They just don't have the air force to compete with the likes of even China - Nor do they have the manpower to support a very large air force to begin with.

How the fuck do they not have the manpower for an airforce? I mean, for a conventional army with infantry divisions, sure, ok you might have a point, but an airforce?

With ~127.000.000 citizens, Im pretty sure they can find enough people to build a powerful army.
(Thats like 10-15 million less population than Russia..so imo I see no reason for having too few people to make an impressive airforce btw)
shitloads of new stuff in my pc. Cant keep track of it all.

Sure they could beg for forgivness... and why not let the americans do the same for all the warcrimes they've commited during the 20th century? And Great Britain?

Because they don't. You do realize that the USAF has about 350k people, correct? And that only 10k of those people AT MOST actually fly planes. We have about 6k planes. Only 2.5k are fighters. This means that it takes 350k people to support 10k worth of pilots. Thats a huge. (These are USAF numbers only. The navy, and marines are also flying many other planes. Their primary Air-to-Air fighter being the F-18, which is still better technology then what Japan has.)
So unless Japan starts up another draft and begins recruiting an absolute fuckton of people for their air force (Which they can't, as it's illegal for them to keep an air force larger then what they allready have) - They will never be able to compete.
Not to mention Japan's planes (As with the rest of the worlds) are no where near on par with the US's technology. We are currently the only country flying F-22's, and the only country flying the very few F-35's. BTW, the F-22 is a better air-to-air fighter then the F-35. (Last year during the yearly red flag trials, they pitted an overwhelming force of F-16/F-15's against -8- F-22's. The F-22's completely destroyed the 15/16's and they only lost 1 22. Considering that the rest of the world are basically flying 15/16's or planes that are about on par with the 18's - The F-22 fucking rapes everything.)
No, Japan will never become a major military player. If they attempt to - Their ass will be blown back to the stoneage.
"The thing denies your ability to put a weapons system on it, even when I can see it through the canopy," said RAAF Squadron Leader Stephen Chappell, F-15 exchange pilot in the 65th AS. "It's the most frustrated I've ever been."
""We [even] tried to overload them with numbers and failed," said Colonel Bruce. "It's humbling to fly against the F-22." This is a remarkable testimony because the Red Flag aggressor pilots are renowned for their skill and experience. Lt. Col. Dirk Smith, 94th Fighter Squadron commander, said the aggressor forces represent the most lethal threat friendly forces would ever face."
Red Flag puts these planes in a position they should never be in anyways. In real life, the F22 would blow any other plane out of the sky before they would ever get in a dogfight.
