In Oblivion I wanted to resurrect someone for a quest because the guy died, futile attempt, it's like dr. Frankenstein trying to re-create a human being and the result is a gibbering, no-brained, idiot, really you can create the body but not the brain apparently so it's useless unless you want a character with a brahmin brain.

Im hoping dogmeat isnt such a loss, I liked having him about though, good HP's and distraction. Maybe that resurrection issue will get sorted one day..

You won't really need dogmeat, so don't worry. He is a good distraction, but at later levels his HP won't suffice.

You could use Dogmeat as distraction for smaller enemies. Just tell him to stay where he is if you're entering a dangerous region.

Super Mutants are way too easy now. Got 60 points in small guns, bloody mess perk and a simple vault 101 armor which gives me +5 small guns. Killing super mutants in 1-2 headshots with my hunting rifle now. Super mutants were more of a threat in FO1 and 2... They're just walking bags of minigun and hunting rifle ammo Razz

Fallout 1 ended after finishing the main quest.

Fallout 2 (1.1 patch) finished after the main quest.
(Could do a few crazy things in the 1.0 version after beating the game though.)

Fallout Tactics finished after the main quest.

I don't see it as a huge drawback and there are ways to keep playing.
(At the final encounter before activating a certain object use the "TCL" command and go back trough a door that previously blocked your access.)

Found a pretty cool weapon at the national guard armory recently.

these days people expect to be able to free-roam after the end of the main quest. it was prolly not an issue in the days of f1 and f2.

anyway, i don't see any problem here, either. as long as you know that finishing the story ends the game, you can just take your time and do all the side quests or explore, or do whatever else pleases you.. ahem.

From the sound of it you've only seen 1 ending though, i've seen 3 and i'm pretty sure there's a few more. Dunno if it's worth doing it all over again for seeing more but those 3 i could see from 1 save with different actions in the end.

Watching the videos in the data folder, there is only 3 real ending, and some cuts here-and-there depending how you managed yourself during game.

Bit of other stuff as well but this might help a few who has problems with the game.

Will there be a patch to add southpaw controls for the left-handed people out there? And what about a fix for the various PC niggles?
Pete Hines: Well on the 360 the console itself actually handles that. You change it in your control options, so we don't bother doing it in the game. I'll have to check on how PS3 works.
As far as fixes, there's a PC update coming out later today that will address a few PC-specific things that have come up. Can't give you any details yet beyond that as far as what else might be in the works for any of the three platforms.

I had some freezing issues myself but after running it windowed and with vsync on everything has worked great so far. (FPS is a bit lower due to running it windowed but still acceptable.)

(Also mentions DLC's and other stuff, interesting article.)

I just downloaded the RELOADED release and can't get it to work.

I click the 'Play' button on the splash-screen, then the screen goes black and for a second I can see the first image with "Profile: logging" at the top.

Any idea how to fix this?

I would be grateful for any help.

Great news. I constantly experience freezing when I load the game (sometimes freezing up to several minutes) and rarely at saving (most of the time out in the wastes).

see the technical section on nfohump or google abit.
It seems as some of the problems with the game come from ffdshow, some from not using the right resolutions, some from running it on vista (try xp instead if you can) and in my case even kaspersky internet security making it crash because it blocked some requests...

Then just disable it.

Rename "Fallout3.exe.cat" to for example "Fallout3.exe.cat_" and it'll be totally disabled, don't click the Live button in the menu or the game will hang.

This does NOT work for all G4W:L! titles!
(Depends on how deeply integrated it is, doesn't work for the James Bond game or Gears of War for example but here it's more of a overlay for a few bonuses like achievements.)

Sorry I missed that and corrected it by adding the missing " _ " character to the end of the changed filename. Smile
(Tested it myself and it works, just avoid using any live functionality but in this game that only happens if you press "home" and only if you are logged in and to log in you first need to press the live button the main menu even if previously using auto-sign in and that won't work as the game just hangs so just avoid that button and you won't have to bother with "live!" at all.)

oh, right. Could have thought of that too
/me facepalms himself

since the game is so riddled with problems that stem from itself, i didnt think about the release-related issues like live.

It's a hotfix by the way.

(And I guess disabling Live! also fixes this problem.)

I just noticed that for x-fi card users and so forth regarding the alchemy tool, that oblivion is on the list for games to use it for..
Now does anyone know if that would probably mean for Fallout 3 also ? This alchemy/sound d3d malarky really gets on my tits with vista. So far game is fine without alchemy installed but was wondering is it worth bothering with ? really ?

http://www.soundblaster.com/alchemy/

sigh..
