I didn't expect a Fallout game, so I went in without expectations. At first it looked decent, but the more I play the more mediocre it gets, to the point I'm loosing the will to keep playing. I do think it's a better game than Oblivion, but on a grand scale of things, compared to other games, this one feels not that fun, imho.
Btw, graphics wise, even though the engine is weak and the overall picture quality is far from being impressive, I do think the environments are convincing. Kudos to the art team for nailing it.

Thanks! Been waiting for something like that. Could you also please link to some graphics tweak guide or perhaps list the best ini tweaks yourself? I'm dying to increase the draw distance but couldn't get google to help.

You get different endings depending on if you finish that quest or not and depending on some other choices down the road, so you should have a save with and without it

I kinda like the way they managed the auto-scaling here. Now armors/weapons heavily lose defense-rating/damage with degradation so they don't have to rely on giving enemies better kinds of equipment, they just get more reliable stuff. So if I go to a new, undiscovered place that hasn't been scaled yet, I won't see power armored raiders, they still have their regular stuff, just in better condition.
This was the biggest problem in Oblivion. Whenever this came up in a conversation, the main gripe was the "glass-amored-bandits" and not really the "level-scaled-bandits".
I think they nailed the perfect solution here with the permanent zone-scaling and heavily condition-reliant stats.
Although, I have a question: is there any kind of mod that redices the chance for dismemberment and halves the rate of degradation? It's annoying that weapons and armor lose half their condition after a lenghty dungeon.

Damn, things are going really slow in this game, at least in the start. Do you ever get a car to drive around, or do you have to walk in snail speed forever?

Repairs are very annoying, wtf, he needs two laser rifles to repair it by a millimeter at 100 repair skill, what the hell did you do with all the other parts the wasteland must be full of lenses and laser triggers, this should have been based on repair skill not weapon condition. The whole 'two thing' is annoying, makes it harder sure but annoying, just mod it so we can use a wrench.

Don't forget that in previous Fallout games there was a vast wasteland with settlements here and there. This game however concentrates on the ruins of Washington, so the aforementioned drivable wasteland is out of limits and instead you traverse broken terrain dotted with ruins.

Imagine riding a Mad Max vehicle (with spikes) threw the wasteland running over radscorpions, stopping for fuel at a settlement now and then. On the horizon you can barely see a city threw all the dust, you think well maybe my gay-twat boring father is taking a shit there, you floor the pedal and in a cloud of dust, that chokes one settler with bronchitis to death (hopefully one of those annoying kids), you set off into the motherfukcing wasteland. I think this beats the present system by a 10000000000000000 points, fuckin' developers no imagination.

One of the things I really miss from the old Fallout games was the mystery of how the war ended up starting and you'd have to piece together the bits of history from the holotapes you'd find in the various military outposts in the wastes. That added alot to the story. Too bad Bethsoft didn't do it the same war. Finding holotapes that might be played and have some cool cutscenes depicting various key points leading up to the nuclear way.
Ah, well. Next time perhaps. |
Backgorund story is present, but you'll probably miss it if you don't explore. I've found enough terminals with log entries. So it is there, you just have to find it.
As for the previous Fallout games having big maps, you guys do realize it was an illusion right? The fallout games didn't really have huge areas. And a giant 3D world is far more difficult to create if you don't revert to random generation, which I hate. I don't know if Beth used random maps for this game, but it seems like most of it was created by the artists, unlike Oblivion. The map may seem small, but there's alot in it. There are many buildings with big interiors and there are enough underground systems. And yes going through buildings is fun imo because none of them are alike (as far as I could see of course).

He didn't keep up with your abilities, as stated the equipment was the problem. In this game the level-scaling is limited to the equipment. So if you go back to a raider at level15 he'll still have that raider armor. It'll be in top condition now probably, but the DR will be crap against the damage you're doing at level15. In Oblivion, regular bandits could have the best armor and weapons, that was highly unrealistic and didn't really give the player a sense of accomplishment. Just when you had that great sword and you thought you could kick ass, the bandits had the great glass armor. Completely negating your upgrade.

Yep. Is there a cheat to change walking speed? I guess I'll wait for a car-mod or something, hopefully that will be possible if the SDK is ever released. In the meantime I have plenty of other games to pluck from.

Something's weird about fallout.ini and fallout_prefs.ini, fallout.ini seems to be the default one but if you change bInvalidateOlderFiles= in the fallout_prefs it does diddly cock, if you change it in fallout.ini it works, there are some reports that some file parameters only work in fallout.ini and some only in fallout_prefs.ini seems to me we will have to wait for some heavy research to lern what changes what. And what the fuck are you trying to do Betshita, make modding harder with this kind of crap, what's the point of having two ini files that conflict each other.

I'm too lazy to read back through 85 pages of posts, so if I'm asking a question that's already been answered, I apologize.
Is there a way to quick cycle through the weapons you're carrying in game without having to go into the pip boy thingy and select them there? My son tells me that you can on the 360 version, so I was hoping that there was something similar on the pc version?
Thanks...
