i tried to install the expansion w/o the original, wouldnt work. it keeps asking for the original.

You have to skip the automatic install,go to the Content directory on the 1st cd and run the setup manually. Why don't canibals eat clowns ? 'Cause they taste funny.

Look in the official release thread. There's also a syntax you should when starting the installer. It worked perfectly for me. Some users have also reported that the shaders are not appearing when installing it without the original Painkiller.
