Continue the discussion related to protection and how to circumvent it here
In the thread you're currently in, you can talk about the game, spoilers and gripes you might have with the gameplay. Basically everything relating to the game and it's gameplay, not protection related.

Yeah, it's starting to get really bad for me now, a dozen hours in or so. And this on a 3.8gz q9650 and 8gb ddr3. Doesn't appear to be a memory leak, looks like it's some other problem in the game engine. I used a script to remove all the civilian ships, but the performance gain wasn't as great as I'd hoped.
But yeah, Egosoft's releases are incredibly buggy; doesn't appear to be much quality assurance going on. X3Reunion was almost as bad, maybe even worse. They're great at patches though.
That said, I'm overall postive with the game. The new flight mode made combat more fun, for me at least. The NPC corporations sounds like a good feature, although I can't really say I've noticed them in-game yet( but for now I'm just making some credits in the Aragorn sectors ). Some are actually speculating that it's the NPC corporations that are causing the slowdowns, but I guess we'll find out when the patch comes.
Wish there were more beam weapons in the game though. Never been a fan of projectile weapons, especially when they're like slower than the ships themselves.

I must admit I've not experienced any, my game is about 20 hours in now and I own 2 complexes with about 5 stations in each.
That said I have quite a powerful system for gaming.

hmm, my system is not very powerful.
but maybe its the combination of emulating the copy protection / bypassing checks thats slowing it down
i also have experienced none with my dvd retail, u use steam yes?

It's not just the warez version, the problem has the biggest thread on the Egosoft technical support forum; everyone who has played for a while seem to be experiencing similar problems. The time it takes varies, though, based on your computer's power and how the universe evolves in your specific game. Eventually it's supposed to become unplayable.
Personally I'm still only experiencing it in combat( combats went smoothly at the start of the game, but now I'm getting 1-second-long 'hickups' every 10 seconds or so ). FPS is a bit worse, but still playable.
Problem seems to occur quickly if you just leave the game on Seta10x for a few hours. Have a look at the thread: http://forum.egosoft.com/viewtopic.php?t=218622

@Epsilon: i dont think its neccessary to generally forbid talk about the game protection only because one user ran out of control. In the case of X3TC its quiet possible that the slowdowns are related to Solidshield and its VM, which is permanently guarding, protecting, en-and-decryption parts of the games memory address space.
Anyway, if i am only allowed to talk about gameplay i do that at publishers or developers site...

It's a matter of contributing to the community that makes up nfohump, and it's a matter of making it easy for people to figure out solutions to their problems so we don't have the same questions asked on every page, when perhaps the solution has already been found.
That really makes it really tedious to read when all you want to do is discuss the game or how to best make money etc and it becomes a garbled mish mash.
Being on a forum such as nfohump means you talk with the regulars, you discuss with them about games or issues that interests you - and you treat your fellow forum members with respect.
This is why it's a 'community' where the regulars discuss whats going on in the world, games and the gaming industry in general, not just a forum for people to smack eachother - yes I am looking at you LeoNatan
But if you don't want to be part of the community you're of course free to go to egosoft forums and only participate there.

The game is like a big addon for X3:R. That's why it's not called X4. So, some basic hints from X3 are still useful:
- Bankrupt assassin gets a M3 from start. With it you can go cap some pirate ships and make your first millions.
- Pick your fights. It's hard to kill a group with 3+ M3's. There are small groups of 3 ships and also some lone pirate freighters. These are good for capping.
- Steer with A S D W to avoid getting hit by big guns.
- Stay away from the Kaak.
- If you wanna fight a big group, stay very very close to a gate. Fly in circles near the "event horizon". That way the enemies will spread and you can kill one by one.
- When you get a couple million bucks, get a Nova Raider and equip 8+1 Mass Drivers. Yes, you have to buy ammo, but it's worth it. You can kill M5's, M4's, M3's and even M6's in seconds with this setup. Mass Driver on the turret is a missile screen (don't forget to set it to missile defense).
- Buy jumpdrive, teleporter and salvage from terracorp or goner. Salvage insurance let you save the game anywhere. Very useful before going near that M6.
- I prefer the classic flight mode, with auto aim on. The new freelancer flight mode does not have auto aim, only semi. I use a trackball btw.
- Protect station is a very easy mission. It is kinda bugged because the attackers are blue. Patrol sector is the best mission. You get 100K for each M3 and 500K for each M6 you kill. A single mission can get you over 3M. After that, the mass driver ammo and salvage insurance don't seem that expensive.
- I need a new computer.

I have the same stuff. I get it working by opening the main Daemon Tools window, deactivating then reactivating RMPS, then remounting the image. If it doesn't work then, then I just mess around some more and suddenly it runs.

That new mouse control is hideous. On top of that it's completely un-optimised like every X release. Waiting for several patches, as X3R is better at the moment.

I thought the new Freelancer mouse control system was a real improvement. But yeah, we need some patches.

I tried DT PRO fullversion.
I tried with all emulations on and off.
No difference.
I hate you.

It only adds a data file and changes the database to recognize that new data file, so there should be no issues.

Great, too bad the scene doesn't seem to be interested in the game.

Where Freespace is mission-based, this one is open-ended like the good old Elite games. Think Elite, just less ambitious ( no planet landings, rather small sectors to fly in, etc. ), but with the ability to build and own space stations and freighters yourself, and even creating your own fleets of ships. The only game of its kind, really.
