I presume so, but I'm only level three...
I've added a good amount of my points to small arms...
My perception of the fights so far, the factors that dictate shots are stats, weapon, range and aiming...

Early weapon tip...Probably preaching to the converted seen as I'm early on in the game...
Spoiler: | On the mission where you have to take a note from a girl to her family, which leads you to a Vampire gang in a subway station....
If you off the leader Vance, or Vince.. he drops a fire sword which fucking owns and doesn't seem to require any fuel...
No names because I've not got the game loaded.. |

You definatly just can't finish this game off the bat without playing through it fully. There is a certain gigantic something that throws nukes like footballs.

Just finished the game. Suprisingly short main story and the side quests aren't many enough or as easily available as in F2 for example.
Game played out just as I had expected before I got to play it.
Pretty good game but not a Fallout game. Yes the setting is there but the game is just way too shallow.
BTW I never managed to find a Sniper rifle, anyone here found one and can tell me where it was found?

so it's like oblivion in that sense...shitload of sidequests, but the main story is over after a few missions?
and about the sniper rifle...1 time i saw it in a shop (think it was rivet city), but i got my first one from a sniper at the minefield near the start

Yeah i got the sniper rifle from the guy that blows up all the cars at minefield aswell. I told my Dog to go back to Vault 101 but now the bitch aint there >.<
Is it also possible to get back into Vault 101 later in the game because i forgot to get one of the bobble heads from there.

I found a fucking CHAINSAW KNIFE! The melee options in this game are really starting to tempt me to re-roll a melee based character...
Small arms seems pointless overall. Be nice if you could dual-wield pistols. Seems all I use are the hunting rifle and (chinese)assault rifles. Mind you, a point blank combat shotgun headshot is a thing of beauty...
i can has computar?!

How do you get power armor training?
Spoiler: | I got into the GNR building with a ton of brotherhood soldiers. I talked to a few of them and they told me I should ask Elder Lyons for permission to learn how to use power armor. They said he's usually outside by the lab, but I walk outside where we had a firefight with a bunch of super mutants and the behemoth and there's no lab, and no Elder Lyons to be found. |

Spoiler: | You gotta get to The Citadel, it's like southeast of Megaton west-northwest of Rivet City on the west side of the water. Don't know if you can get in without getting there with mainquest though, but you can try. |

I've come across two snipers rifles so far, one from the guy in Minefield and another from a named NPC that attacked me while I was walking up there.
Anyway, I have no intentions of doing the main plot quests until I get bored of roaming around the wastelands.
I'm kind of surprised people are saying there aren't many side quests as I've come across at least 7-10 just roaming NE of Megaton at level 5. They would be easy to miss if your just hauling ass to town to town.
I like the exploring aspect and the atmosphere. I would like to see a proper continuation of the series with the full turn-based stuff. Unfortunately, I'm not sure how well it would do with the newer generation of gamers with their shorter attention spans.
Ah well, I'm enjoying it for what it is (more than I expected really) and look forward to what the mod community can do with it.

Super-Duper Mart related.
Spoiler: | There's "Alien Energy cells" or something to that effect all over the outer grounds of the Super Duper mart, and on 2 reloads the Raiders there seemed to be able to fire an energy weapon that neither of them had on them when I managed to eventually kill them. What gives?
I've checked all around the areas I feel they could have picked them up from during our encounters, but I can only find the cells and nothing more. Is there an actual weapon anywhere in that area that anyone but these bandits have managed to find? |
Non spoiler-wise I hate those crabmencreatures. It's like Terror From the Deep meets those stupid aliens on the vagrant tanker back in Fallout 2. They're the only part of the game that has truly annoyed me so far.

Never played more than 2-3 hours of obvlion but if oblivions main quest is short then yes Fallout 3 is alot like Oblivion when it comes to that. Funny part is that I thought I was behind on the Main quest and ahead on the side quests so it was even more shocking when the game ended ( The horrible last part of the game didn't make it any better).
Hmm I haven't seen one in any of the shops I've been to, gonna check out the mine field if I can be bothered starting up the game again. Weird that the sniper is so rare yet there is tons of pretty much every other weapon...

Snipe and Flamer where the two first weapons I found in the game actually, explored the road going outside the vault and then up to a broken highway, tons of raiders there and the first one I killed had a sniper with the second one having a flamer.
(Due to scaling the fight was pretty easy, especially due to all available cover and the AI not being that bright, got quite a few raider armors as well but I've long since discarded those.)
Doesn't really mean much though as equipment is randomized (leveled lists again perhaps?).
"Shishkebob" is also pretty cool for a melee weapon but I prefer how the "Ripper" knife looks and I found a unique sword called "Vampire's Edge" though it's not all that different from the chinese officer sword aside from higher damage
(Ripper is also a continual attack weapon or whatever it's called so instead of individual swings just hold down the attack button and charge the enemy, doesn't require batteries anymore either.)
EDIT: Just explored the village called "Minefield", there's a guy there with a sniper and a whole bunch of ammo boxes for it, better yet he's hostile so one can just kill him.

chainsaw+bloody mess perk = raider exploding in dozens of parts
did i mention i hate those fire ants... my combat shotgun repels them with difficulty..
one thing i hate too is weapons conditions drops way too fast. im practically obliged to make a stop at a city to repair them after a dozen of mobs killed

I have a question:Why graphics are so mediocre???With a quad core 6600,nvidia 8800gt,2gb ram on XP,ultra high settings,1680x1050 AA4x+AF 15 samples,the graphics are pretty dull.am i doing something wrong?wall and floor textures look like half-life 1...

People that are complaining they can't find ammo, buy the blueprints for that vacuum shit then use teddy bears and coffee cups as ammo.
As for real ammo you will have to buy those.

After playing about grand total of 5 hours, I'm mildly disappointing. I will not play this game ever again, I don't think. The oblivionesque feeling ruined it for me.

Well there's the deal breaker for me.
I've been playing this game as not a Fallout game (because it isn't) and it was mildly OK despite a lot of things being disappointing.
That was until I found out that apparently there are only two shotguns types. Sawn off and Combat.
And 4 pistol types, the Chinese, 10mm, .34, and the magnum with a scope which you can't remove FFS which is just stupid in close up combat when you're out of AP.
And two Assault Rifles. And I think even just one submachine gun.
Also the energy weapons look like shit.
God damn shit. This game is shit.

Looking at the files in the /Meshes/Weapons folder there's 111 NIF files in ten folders (Named after different categories), this does include a few more files than just weapons though.
(Mainly ammo clips but there's still about 60 weapons or so compared to for example Far Cry 2 or S.T.A.L.K.E.R. not to mention a standard FPS like Crysis.)
EDIT: That said some "types" aren't that varied, SMG's for instance.

I spent 12 hours looking for a fucking regular shotgun. I need those other weapons for variety. I don't want the damage range to be limited by the condition of a weapon.
This is just laziness on Bethesda's part. In order to still keep the whole damage done by weapons, instead of offering a variety of guns to make use of, they chose to just have a couple of them in the game with damage based on the condition. And blocking the ability to repair it past a certain point (hence limiting damage) early on.
