If you don't like it stop playing it and go play halo 3/counterstrike again like you were doing. |
Please don't tell people to stop whining, they are posting their opinions on the game. This is a forum for discussion, I do not see why people stating that they do not like it is any less acceptable than dozens of people going crazy over it claiming it's awesome. The thread does not read "Fallout 3, only post if you like it!" If you really love the game so much, go play it instead of telling long-time fallout fans they can't be disappointed with it.
To get back on topic: I have to say that from day one I didn't buy into the idea of Bethesda making Fallout 3. I'm a huge Fallout 1 and 2 fan, and a huge Morrowind fan, but I did not like oblivion. When I saw what Fallout 3 looked like in the early stages, I knew it was going to be an oblivion with guns; sure enough I was right.
For those of you who enjoy it, I'm happy for you. I can't say that I'm really disappointed as I knew it wasn't going to be like fallout when Bethesda got their hands on it. I don't know, somewhere after Morrowind they just went wrong. Dare I say because of the consoles? My opinion, anyway.
EDIT: Btw Trigga1986, I hope I didn't come off as too harsh. I wasn't trying to be an ass, I just get a little pissy when I can't bash something I don't like

It's okay so far, beginning is unimpressive with all the brats and their stupid dialogs, I simply hate the mr. Freeze ninja attack when you initiate dialog but that's an old tale from Oblivion and they just passed it on.
The ini could use a tweak or two I remeber some lines from Oblivion bUseHardDriveCache=0 I think this was set to 1 as a tweak,
bEquippedTorchesCastShadows=0 this one as well
fDefaultFOV=75.0000 could be useful
bAllow30Shaders=0
iMaxDecalsPerFrame=10
iShadowFilter=0
iShadowMapResolution=256 I remember this one, it's a killer on your graphics memory set it to 2048 and watch you graphics card memory quadruple
bShadowsOnGrass=0
bActorSelfShadowing=0 these two should be 1 obviously
iActorShadowCountInt=2
iActorShadowCountExt=2 I think 4 for both
bUseWaterHiRes=0
bReflectExplosions=0 tsk,tsk, 1 for both
Hm, this one is funny
[CopyProtectionStrings]
SCopyProtectionMessage2=Insert the Fallout Disc.
SCopyProtectionTitle2=Fallout Disc Not Found
SCopyProtectionMessage=Unable to find a CD-ROM/DVD drive on this computer.
SCopyProtectionTitle=CD-ROM Drive Not Found
This is from memory not tested.

I have a question before i start my real character : Are melee weapons and/or unarmed effective in this game or should i invest my points in a guns category instead ?
I am thinking about either small guns or melee weapons. Sure i could always pick both but it wouldn't be pratical since repair , science , lockpicking ect are more important than maxing 2 different weapons category.

This game is fucking awesome. Well worth the purchase, especially with the DLC coming for it.
I don't care if it doesn't play like the originals.. which I still have installed 10 years later. This is new and different and fucking fun and that's all that matters to me.

No shit sherlock? It's called FOV stretching, it's present in every single 3D game. |
because rasterizer engine games don't render shit properly
maybe soon we'll have raytrace engines where it doesn't cost extra anymore to do proper lens distortions
you can see the effect well here; Spoiler: | |

I don't trust any review sites these days, for one the big dogs get paid to give high ratings and the small timers don't make enough money to put the time and effort in a real review attempt so they copy and re wright the big dogs reviews in their own words.

Haha, wow. I was expecting some scene thing about it being nuked for some stupid reason. Caught me off guard
To stay on topic though; First off, let me say I'm a die hard Fallout 1/2 fan and I'm loving Fallout 3. Why you ask? I destroyed any hopes and expectations of this game to be Fallout. It's an awesome game in it's own right, but Fallout? No. It' just shares the same name and a similar setting. Other than that, it's it's own game. Something new. Play it like it's something new, instead of like it being Fallout, and you may come to like it. They should NOT have named it Fallout 3. Fallout: Vault 101 would have been a better choice, and in doing so, would have placed it away from the main Vault 13 story line, instead of making lots of us think it was going to be a sequel.
tl;dr: It's a great game if you give it a chance. Don't think of it as Fallout.

so basically in your view, any game that gets a bad review is shit and any game that gets a great review obviously paid for it and is also shit hence all games are shit?

I love this game, Bethesda somehow nailed most of the atmosphere and setting of the originals, giving us a chance to experience a post apocalyptic world (with tinges of 50'ies atomic winter scares) in a new way. My neck is stiff after playing for 3+ hour without even a breather.

Well it's certainly got a good atmosphere, problem is for me....I'm lost outside the vault, theres endless buildings as far as the eye can see, and all inhabited by hostile raiders...wheres a city or even a town with people who don't want me dead on sight?

I haven't played it yet, but by the sounds of that it sounds like Welcome to Far Cry 2 with shitter graphics. Judging from screens and videos, Oblivion looked much better than this.

Sigh...
Spoiler: | I befriended a hooker in Megatron via the Lady Killer perk. She said - "for a room, and my company, 120 caps". So myself, being the naive idiot that I am, paid her. Went up stairs, slept in bed, no action...not even moaning Why lie to the player like that? |
Thus far, unimpressive. This really IS just Oblivion reskinned with a post apocalypse feel. None of Oblivion's flaws have been remedied, and the menu/inventory system is a major pain in the ass.
Also, the game's intro states that the nukes went off in 2077. Why then, is 1950s memorabilia everywhere? We were using 1950s stuff in 2077?

well ... think that it's fallout, but a spinoff of the franchise. because we all know that the purist will always whine that fallout is turn-based and isometric, which this game isn't.

What exactly is the distinct feel?
The launcher, game menus, control mappings, game interface (maps, inventory, equipping), NPC Interaction (zoom in and freeze up), are EXACTLY like Oblivion. Its all simply re-skinned for "Fallout". The only new feature is that VATS system.
Granted, I've heard "fuck" and "whore" a couple of times, so its a bit more mature, but it feels exactly like Oblivion to me when you look past the textures.
