Completed it, interesting story with a few twists and a pretty good game all in all, above average length as well since it took 9 hours but I collected everything I could.

Unlocked some nice stuff as well so now it's time for one final rerun on "Impossible" difficulty (With military grade suit.)

That remote controlled saw is definatly my favorite weapon. It's hard to figure out how to use - But once you figure it out it's definatly the most powerful weapon in the game. I don't really bother with the other weapons. The line gun is good - But has very limited ammo. I use the plasma cutter quite a bit, as it's pretty powerful if aimed correctly. I keep that huge beam cannon thing on myself at all times as well - As there are certain situations where using it's secondary ability to pretty much clear out everything around you is great.

hey guys, seems i found some soluitons!

firstly, for the c++ error crashing dead space to desktop, i simply set compatibility mode to xp sp2, played 1,5 hours straight!

secondly, the mouse issue: i got a logitech g3 laser. i fired up setpoint and went to advanced game settings. there the dpi where already set to 2000 (max for that mouse), but the refresh rate was at 800hz. i pimped it to max of 1000, now the aiming in dead space is fucking responsive! this should work for all logitech laser mice, i think they all use setpoint.

hope that helps!
and game is really nice... going back plaing Smile

ok, compatibility mode does nothing for me.
first i thought its just random, but now i think it only crashes when i change some video settings. when i start the game and go straight to the last save without fiddling with the settings, i can play as long as i want. as soon as i change something, it crahes after 5 mins.
maybe its still coincidence, but maybe its the solution

have to take a small break, im all nervous Smile

Well, I can't say I really like the game, not the biggest fan of survival genre in general, they're waaay too "obvious" for me, like if there's something good in the room, the moment you grab it baddies will appear, if there's grate or vent, you can bet the baddies will appear, if you have to backtrack previously empty corridor, you guessed it, the baddies will appear.

Also, the game kinda breaks itself in couple of first minutes, since everyone just have to go and get themselves killed as fast as they can, short of walking out of airlock, instead of looking around on all the blood on the walls and saying "Fuck this, we're out of here" then jog it back to the shuttle and gtfo before it gets even worse. Guess people in the future no longer watch movies like Aliens and stuff.

Furthermore, you're the ONLY person on the whole Ishimura who actually smart enough to wear a bloody helmet and some armor Smile So, I figured Isaac is smart guy and pretty much has his way with the computers, so I kinda tossed in some more money for him and stocked up in the first shop with loads and loads of ammo, and it turned "survival horror" into a bit retarded "corridor shooter". I've noticed all of the survival games are completly destroyed by adding enough ammo for any gun you like. Once you can shoot back properly it's all over. Take any of them, Resident Evil, Alone in the Dark, if you can shoot a lot it's no longer scary at all.

People say, that Dead Space is how Doom 3 should've been. Hello, Doom 3 is exactly the same, you go through corridors and bad guys pop out of the walls and go for your blood. It's just because in Doom 3 you have loads of weapons and ammo it's not considered scary, well, Dead Space is not scary either, IF you have the ammo -_- Of course you don't have to break your experience like I did, but I really can't stand games where I don't have enough ammo and explosives to blow shit up with Smile

Anyways, the game is not bad, but some say Game of the Year and stuff. No. It is not. It's not bad, but it doesn't gets the golden medal.

Not true at all, I've finished the game on the medium difficulty, more often than not, rooms with items/"good things" are free from baddies. And no, baddies don't always appear when you backtrack or whatever. I feel it happens less often than I thought it would. That kept me on edge.

U only get scared at the begining , and u actually get scared by that screamy sound not by the monsters

The camera movements in this game are so disorienting that I can't play for more than an hour before getting dizzy. I wish they would have made it 1st person instead. 3rd person doesn't work so well in such tight spaces. It works for Gears of War but not this.

Err, what?

The point being that whole survival horror genre is really based on a fact that you don't have enough firepower to blast your way through and have to either rely on some other (melee, enviroment) means to defeat enemies or just try to evade them. The moment you get ability to fight back properly the whole suspence breaks down. I just modified amount of money I had like the moment I picked up second credit drop and from that moment game wasn't scary anymore because my inventory was loaded with shitloads of ammo from the shop. And I knew I could come back any moment to get more. When you can just keep on firing on those creeps without really thinking that you might not have enough ammo left for a next fight, you stop caring, they're just meat for the grinder. You don't have to aim or stasis them for dismembering, you just keep pulling the trigger and they come apart eventually -_-

Let's be honest here, the whole story is based on how scary and bizzare necromorphs are, but in reality 3 competent soldiers with enough ammo could have secured the whole ship in the matter of hours. Unless engineering tools and gear are somehow much more suited for combat than guns and armor, but then 3 engineers could have done that anyways.

Right, read back your original post where you were saying that you saved all your ammo, then there was too much for the rest of the game, and that was why you didn't like it, then at the end you say you like games that have a ton of ammo and explosives, which is a direct contradiction to your original statement.

The bad thing is that the game is not really scary. I mean, you get introduced to the monsters right away, there is no scary-as-hell sequence at the beggining where you only hear the distant-monster-cries/scratching-on-the-walls, getting a few misterious clues from notes...the good horror stuff. Here you barely landed and your team is already under attack.

IMO it would have been better if the game relied more on suspense and uncertain situations rather than an almost all out bloodbath. It may be unpredictible, but most of the time, I'm not even borderline scared. It's a really well done game...just not "horror" enough for me.

The thing is like this :

When a game is too good to well created people start to critic it , but if the game is worse than worse nobody says shit , thats how things work

Well that depends on person to person.

I for one, apart from childhood haven't seen a single horror movie which remotely scared me.
Same goes for games. But I will reserve judgement until I finish this game.

So far looks good, it probably won't 'scare' me, but if it manages to keep me engaged and interested due to its horror genre, that would be an achievement indeed.
