It's called Over the Shoulder and it works so much better in 3rd person games.
Yep, and there's a reason for it too. It's to make you feel claustrophobic when you're playing. Keep you close, makes you feel enclosed, and it helps add to the scare factor. I must commend the devs on that nice subtle detail, though people are complaining about it.
Personally, the game has impressed me enough that I would have bought it, had it not had the stupid DRM on it. Yes, I could buy it and only play the cracked version, the problem is, I end up supporting that kind of DRM by doing this. They see sales, they do it again. Then again, knowing EA, they're likely to do it again regardless.
The reason I personally complain about it is because I don't have a 360 gamepad and I never use gamepads, and that perspective combined with the awkward mouse controls just doesn't work at all. I bet it's perfect if you use the analogue stick on the 360 pad to spin your character. That's how the game was designed, to be played with a modern gamepad, not mouse+wasd.
Just so you know, I do play with kb+mouse. The controls really are fine, just make sure you set the mouse sensitivity to the max setting, and you'll be able to aim a bit better. I'm on Chapter 3 and I haven't really had a problem yet. The controls ARE sluggish, but over all I feel that that adds to the game, as it triggers a sense of urgency with you when you're trying to aim.

It's simply a matter of preference. I can't stand the controls in Dead Space (using mouse+kbd), it's horribly annoying even with sensitivity set to max (and vsync off naturally, otherwise it's 10 times worse), all in my personal opinion. I'm glad you and some other gamers don't have a problem with it but for me it detracts so much from the experience that it's ruining the game, hence my plans on getting a gamepad.
How do I configure my controller? I'm using a saitek P2500. The inputs are not responding when I try to map them in the game options (it only shows keyboard inputs) and I can't find any options for selecting my controller.
The point of shitting myself is not very far . . .
Playing at 1920x1200 + 5.1 sound system helps alot for the immersion !!!!
I had a bit of problem with the controls, i own a XBox Controller, but after all, i preferred to play with kb+mouse, sure after disabling vsync and putting sens on max . . .
It seems bad at the start, but after playing a bit with it, it gets much better . . .
if i get my first weapon im getiing a C++ error. What could be the problem?

wanna play that great game!
it looks like NOT a Problem with Dead Space. I search in Google with Unknown Software Exception 0x40000015 and this Problem is on other Software also. Look at Google and read about it.
I think it's not Dead Space, it's smothing on your PC or MS Windows.
