well I would like it more if they made single player version... I don't have anything against mmo games, but that takes more time than regular single playing imo...

Ea trying to milk the mmo market some more well who didn't see this coming, probably the only reason they bought bioware in the first place. They where planning this for years now, jealously looking at all that sweet MONEY blizzard was making, wouldn't be surprised if bioware cancels all other projects so they can work on 8 mmo expansions. Just what we fucking needed.

Maybe, but it was blizzard that showed everyone how to get stinking rich from it and you know Ea follows money like a bull goes after a cow during mating season.

guess we will see with WAR. Right now they have 750k subscribers ... wonder how many will continue after the free month ... i know i won't , not as long as the big bugs remain anyway (huge fps drops, ctd's, pc turning off ...)

anyway, as i said, i give them the benefit of the doubt (for sw:tor) and hope for the best. I really want a scifi themed mmo

The funny thing is no one has become rich from mmorpgers other than Blizzard (now Activision) and CCP Games (Eve Online). Just look at the amount of attempts (some good, some bad, some "WTF" bad) and failz. WAR and AoC now show signs of some success, but who knows how long will that last, and that success is because of lots of people are just tired of WoW, so they look for a prettier WoWs with a different names.

Seems EA is considering micro-transactions for this title, altough it's not fully confirmed yet.
(Sellable in-game extras purchased with real money, several MMO's support it.)

EDIT: EA also had a few problems lately and didn't meet sales expectations.

(Well there was quite a few titles released recently so it's only natural some of them "fail")

If the game will have a real story and plot someone will probably crack it so you can play it offline, not a bad idea there by ea Smile

the fact that bioware makes a MMO in SW universe is quite exciting, but the saddest thing about it is that the game might be not too hardcore, as it could.
That is the problem of SWG, not the "shitty ass jedi/sith BS". And that problem is called "simplicity".
Does anyone remembers the atmosphere of SWG in 2004? As for me, i think it was a bit gloomy, smugglerish, when you wander in the deserted lands on Dantoo\Datho, and homey in these small islands of civilization (cantinas in the outposts). And it really was scary sometimes to be overt (pvp-enabled) in there, cause these planets seem to be deserted and lifeless only until you turn overt)) and then, suddenly the guys with glowsticks forcerun to u or riflemen equipped with jawa's ion rifles (the protection against this weapon was 39% max, when all other resists were apx. 90 %) make a coupla shots and u'r cooked in 4-5 seconds.
Also the skill system was very interesting, not this fckin class-based one.
I really hope the game won't be so WoWish, like SWG now (which is IMO SW based WoW)

Games (all of them) will be 100% FREE in the future, remember my words! micro-transactions and/or donations. Same with software. Forget about that beautiful boxes with games inside, and totally forget about monthly fees in the near future. Oh! and forget about PIRACY too, lol!

WoW is the LAST successful monthly fee in history, the LAST ONE, no one will repeat that.

micro transactions are what the banks of the world do. itunes deliberately charges you in one big transaction at the end of the month for all your songs, rather than true micro-ing, to avoid fees and complications. games would follow this similar work around, but in truth the banks would have to change their methods for the transaction "latency" to come down and for games being able to efficiently micro your bank account.

not that it would/will/has stopped it, i just don't see it as likely to become the standard. also the second reason why they won't be free:

WOW MAKES A FUCKTON OF MONEYYYYY.

what makes these micro-transactions so sweet for the publishers or whoever gains money for it?
why not just use the good old "15-bucks-per-month" scheme?
Maybe i do not quite what microtransactions are.. Is it payment through SMS bullshit?

Micro transactions are, for example, when you buy a 2$ cool sunglasses for your character, that sunglasses doesn't make you more powerful, you just look better than average players. That way, the game could be totally free. Some people spend more than 15$ per month buying that things, other don't buy a thing. With cool things in the store, they could make more money than monthly fee.

Battlefield Heroes will works that way, for example.

It actually looks pretty good, if they can make it kinda like a mix between the original SWG and Kotor then I'm sold. I generally don't like MMO's too much though, though I've played my share of them.

Game looks so bad to me right now. Looks like it's aimed for kids with the cartoony graphics. In the end it will probably turn out to be a WoW clone in the Star Wars universe.
