December 1, 2004 - Blizzard Entertainment today confirmed that World of Warcraft has broken day-one sales records in North America, making it the most successful PC game launch ever. World of Warcraft, the company's subscription-based massively multiplayer online role-playing game (MMORPG), sold through to over 240,000 customers at retailers in North America on Tuesday, November 23, selling more in its first 24 hours than any other PC game in history
In addition to shattering sales records, World of Warcraft also broke peak concurrency and account creation records for a MMORPG. Within the first day, over 200,000 players created World of Warcraft accounts. By 5:00 p.m. PST, over 100,000 were playing the game concurrently. These two record-breaking numbers made World of Warcraft the fastest-growing MMORPG in history. Within a single day, all original 40+ World of Warcraft servers were filled to capacity, and by the end of the Thanksgiving weekend, more than 40 additional servers were deployed to meet the rapidly growing player base, as the number of new accounts and concurrent users continued to grow.
Over the Thanksgiving weekend, players continued to buy World of Warcraft in record numbers, with a total of over 350,000 copies of the game selling through

Blizzard is going to be so loaded after this. It's not as if it's a normal game either, it's a MMORPG so they'll make even more money from subscribers. It might even have over 1,000,000 players at it's peak!

Well, it's not a big suprise. This game was done by Blizzard and she never dissapointed her fans. I've played the open beta and I must say that this game is a masterpeice, it just perfect.

Damn, this means i will never get my hands on the CE version of WoW. Shit got sold out within 2 hours after they put it up and in every country.

Graphics are sweet as hell same with the sound, if you don't like them you probably never enjoyed warcraft.

Exactly, if it wasn't cartoonish it wouldn't be warcraft. The only place where warcraft games can look mature are in the CGI movies

I have no other game installed on my machine right now.... the only thing im playing is wow..
i had never played a mmorpg before and this game was just liike !
When ur having massive pvp battles and shit.. its pure awsome
the whole games awsome... i dont really know what people can complain about and not like about the game
So what if the gfx are not doom3 quality ? they are not suppose to be.... but the way the gfx are done is AWSOME.. and this game will run great even on the most shitty computer.
People complaining to pay ??? welcome to the world of massive multiplayer online gaming...
By the way the game prolly has the best use of sound/music i have ever seen in a game.. its so suttle but sets the mood and gives it a epic sound..
Goto the night elf capital... and u will just be in awe at how great the games "Mood" is |

I'd love to play it but paying for the game first then pay to play per month is a bit much for me atleast, if i had the money i'd do it.

are you sure those records are right? im pretty sure hl2 + preloading had more than 400,000 copies. still i do think this game will never reach 1million peak wait another 6 months and people will have seen all they want to, only the hardcore will stay or if prices are cut down. i do like blizzard as a company though, they seem to have a good staff community and are quite reliable on patches and updates. |
