This is actually one of the few game-to-movie productions that stick to the game. It's probably because the game had an actual story, the writers don't have to make one up. I don't understand all the bitching.

I must say, and that's what's a little bewildering about this, I didn't have to change much. We trimmed some frames more for the sake of trimming frames than anything, but we got the rating without any major changes at all. I'm a little surprised that we changed their minds, effectively, but I'm happy about it. It proves that if you stick to your guns and you have the creative, and dare I say moral sense, that you're in the right, that you can get the right thing done.
There'll also be an extended 'Gamer's Cut' when the DVD release comes rolling round:
There's what I call the Gamer Dedicated Cut of the movie. It's a little slower and a little more atmospheric. There are some rougher edges on it, but it's not going to be a bloodfest. I want this to be the Max Payne that I set out to shoot. It's not that I wanted to release one version in the theaters and make a cheap buck by following up with a blood-drenched DVD version. The movie you see in the theaters will be an intense experience and the movie you see on DVD will be as intense an experience with some extra sensibilities for people who really adore the game.

really?
We have a show in Canada on the Space Channel called The Circuit and it covers videogames, horror and sci fi movies, comics, computers and their technologies etc
And I watched it last nite (its on on fridays) and the preview of Max Payne looked fuckin cool.
Why's it an "epic fail"? Isnt it rated R? So there should be gore and swearing and mature themes right?

Making it 18+ would give it more review stars? 
If the game story would have been copied, then people would complain about bullshit again. I think LN should write scripts for VG adaptions

Did you even bother to read the review? They say this movie has a tame story and is all about the action, then they say the action is  ... Just as I expected.
And I never said the movie is bad because of the lower level of violence. I was correcting Syco. As long as story and cast is right (which isn't the case here), I can live with PG13 just fine. |

naw man, i thought it was R. I havent read any reviews, just saw previews on this show I watch on fridays that cover new horror movies, sci fi movies, videogames, new technologies, computers and comic books. From the clips they showed it look like it was rated R. PG-13 sucks, especially if thats the rating in the US. Cause movies in the us that are rated R, are usually rated PG-14 here. PG-13 rated movies in the US are like PG something (cant remember the other two initials) but another words, it doesnt have mature content (as in language and nudity and gore etc)

For the reasons I listed above, yes, an R rating would have improved the chances of the movie being better. More gore, more mature subject matter, alot more "bad" language. And like fuck, its max payne, he's supposed to be a badass. I cant imagine him running after some dude yelling "Stop, Im gunna freakin kick your butt when I get my hands on you" or some bullshit. It would be way better if it were "Stop motherfucker, Im gunna kick the shit outta you when i catch your ass" or something along those lines.
Its more realistic. Itd be like watching the GoodFella's or the Godfather with no swearing...or as irratating as Battlestar Galactica and its "Frak" instead of "Fuck"....god I hate that shit.

too bad , script was actually good , at least i liked it ..
and yeah , it's not the same shit as in the movie , we don't see any torture ,gore , drugs were drugs not a fuckin energy drink
oh and be on the lookout for James McCaffrey aka Max's voice from the games , he plays some fed

i didnt say there werent any drugs , but the whole drug 'thing' is dumbed down , no needels and crap like that
too bad , even though this project was dead in water from the get-go , i guess if Halo was made (i'm no fan of that shit) it would have been the best adapted game to date , it had great producers , and excellent writer and a director who knew his material
sofar , i consider Silent Hill the best adaptation sofar , 2/3rds were excellent , last part was a fucking dissaster

for me Resident Evil will be best game to movie adaptation
Silent Hill had some moments but they changed everything including main character, female instead of male, plus acting was sloppy, especially the kid she was just horrible

a) he doesn't look anything like max payne
b) he doesn't act nor even sound like the real max payne , his voice is disturbing when he tries to sound depressed
c)the movie has nothing much to do with the game and of course was made to make money and it will
d) mona sax is just another "woow she's hot kinda pussy" for 13 years olds
e) WHAT THE FUCK were they thinking bringing ludashit as jim bravura?? he's fucking white ffs and he's OLD!!!! not a gangsta shithead
f) the movie is shit. definitely not for the game fans
