One would have to open the box and dvd drive for this?

I cleaned mine and it did not work.
The problem I have is with NEW burns, so it may be a burner problem maybe, although it burns good for other boxes.
Maybe I should clean the burner lens??.

Tyr buying a new laser. They're cheap enough.

I'd try a new or alternate burner first...new lasers require soldering and such, yuck. My old burner went bad after awhile. It used to be able to burn DL's, but it got worse and worse until my 46 hitachi wouldn't read them.

Its really easy to fit a new laser. Its a single anti solder joint you need to remove, hardly anything difficult.

Even verbs won't work with a failing laser after a while.

it doesn't have to be failing laser, could be just minor discalibration which can be fixed easily

my brothers xbox still doesnt work and i cleaned the laser and calibrated the pot of the laser to it was set at 3.9, and i tried 3.7 3.6 3.5 3.4 3.3 3.2 3.1 and 3.0, i found that from 3.0 to 3.4 it would load the games on first try i could play, except saints row which freeses at 90 percent but works fien on all other xbox's, but other games i could load fine, but after i stop playing and try starting another game i would have to open and close a bunch of time to make it work.
