In reality it doesn't matter what people here thinks. You can think it's BS, an excuse or what not. But if every game company starts with the same thing as Ubisoft there won't be any games at all on the PC at all...or as some say the PC gamers will only get bad ports and mmorpgs.
I'm not saying it's right or wrong what Ubisoft does, but it's not a good thing for PC gaming that companies starts to think this way. I mean, it's not the first time this year we heard game producers or game companies say the same statement.

Put it this way, if every developer treated their customers the way the witcher crew has, games would sell like it did.
try to argue all you want but it's the truth up and down the road.
all in all, UBI can fuck off, their just still soar they got boycotted to hell when they released chaos theory with star force, they haven't given a damn about PC gaming SINCE so why does this less educated "news" from them make a difference. OH IT WONT BE ON PC, it'd just been some shit fucking port anyways bugged to hell and make all the owners vote for a fucking patch anyways. |
yeah yeah and everyone still pirate witcher almost no-one cares about piracy and thats sad.

what he said is perfectly correct. to download games for the 360 you need a dual layer dvd burner, high quality discs, and a modded console.
on the pc you need an internet connection.
it's only natural that pc games get pirated more, because it's much easier, and as he mentioned, modding your console puts the console at risk, it could break, and you lose your warranty, which is a very dangerous thing especially with the 360 as it likes to die so much.
on the pc every idiot who has no idea what the fuck he's doing can go on a torrent site and download something, but for consoles, the 'casual' pirates who have trouble extracting rar files are too afraid to mod their consoles.
plus you run the risk of getting banned from xbox live. |
ehmm and that all costs peanuts compared to pc u have to buy/build to play latest games
360=150 euro
mod=20 euro [or free if u can do it yourself]
dvd burner=30 euro tops
verb pack 25st=35 euro
TOTAL=235 euro
Pc decent rig will cost u at least 600 euro now
i'm not counting monitor and all other shibam
plus u need to get xtra hd space all the time unless u planning on burnig games to disks which will cost xtra money and space
so everyone with a little brain and concern on saving up some cash and wouldn't want to be bothered with every year upgrade+dealing with patch issues that pc always have will go for console

I'm talking about the casual gamers who don't actually know what they are doing. They got their PC and Xbox360 from mum and dad on their birthday or whatever. They won't go and mod their console. They will go and download pc games from some random torrent site because all they have to do is click a few buttons.

trust me i know alot of ppl who prefer to deal with hacked console and buying burned copies rather than going through all that shit by dlding pc games, extracting and copiyng crack and what if it won't run as good as it suppose to or they will have problems just starting the game
more skills required to play pc games copies or originals, where installation and patching involved
where on 360 it's plug 'n' play

Bang on. Games used to have heart and innovation, now its simply about simplification, mass production, and consolization to rake in the greatest amount of cash during key fiscal periods. It'll be a cold day in hell before I, or any self respecting gamer, supports that.

it's absolutely ridicilous by pirates to say that good games sell well or that piracy should be legal as it gives them a taste and decision to buy it or not. but no! pirates don't buy shit. you can say as much as you want, but you're not gonna buy that game you pirate and like much.

I think all the pirates here
need look at the sales numbers of PC games compared to consoles
and check some numbers of torrents leechers in PC games
compared to consoles too.
then you will see how Huge Piracy in the PC market.

As probably many others I have an inconsistent view about pirating.
I agree with nearly everything that have been said here, from the two sides of view.
It's pretty much certain that piracy is bringing the sales of PC games wayy under the console ones. On the other hand PC games always have been pirated (I was copying doom, hexen and epic pinball on my 486 on floppy disk to all my friends at school). Console games pirating started with the dreamcast, and is getting quite common on the ps2/xb360.
I am sad seeing PC games lacking good development. PC games have better controls, better customization, better everything compared to consoles. But, building a PC to play them cost enough money so you don't have any more to actually buy the game after upgrading your video card and everything. Consoles on the other hands are cheap, but you can just not do everything else that a PC allow you to, so I wouldn't switch to a console for anything in the world. PC games also take much much more developing effort, since all PC are different and they have to create them to support all kind of different hardware, unlike consoles which FPS stay stable and there's much less need to optimize.
The one who said Ubisoft was bs because of the vegas reloaded "fix" and then this message, I have to say that ubi is a VERY big company, and many people work in different city. I even worked there for some time so I can say that not all employees are representing what the company is. Also, sure they fucked up some R6 and Ghost Recon, but the last ones of the series are not bad at all.
If piracy wouldn't have been available in my youth, I don't think I would have become a 3d programmer. I would probably be working in some crappy place instead. I nearly played every good commercial pc games since more than 10 years and learned a lot with that, even developed my intelligence. Without piracy, I would have been stuck to only play around 1 game per year due to low budget so for that I can only thanks piracy.
As for crappy games, do you think they would be really different if piracy weren't there? The deadlines would be the same, the work effort would be the same. Game developers make enough money to put everything they want as a budget for the next game, they just loose a bit of profit (which they have a lot more than other domains anyway). Games suck because it's hard to create, that's all. You can delay the deadline, but it cost a lot for the small "polishing" that the game get.
A good way to stop piracy would be game to weight over 10gb, that way most people think it's too big to download and prefer to grab the dvd. Another way is to limit multiplayer play, as two of the most successful commercial pc games, WoW and HL2 (CS). Unfortunately not a lot of games have a such big online success so people don't care to play online when they finish the single player campaign they just delete the game (btw, I prefer single player campaign most of the time).
Anyway my post is getting long, and I think it's pretty messed up with ideas coming from all sides with no good plan so I'll stop saying crap now.

Who gives a shit, 90% of the games i downloaded i wouldnt even bought them in the first place...and thats what most poeple do. I wont pay 70$ for a game i'll beat the same day. I only buy games who have solid MP.
And since i descided to put 1300$ on a HDTV instead of upgrading my PC for anotehr 6 months, i think i'll stick to console now. PC gaming is too expensive, pain in the ass and to be honest, there's not enough good titles beeing release on PC lately.
The last game i will download on PC will be Battlefield: Heroes

I guess I'm one of the only rare case that actually pirates a lot more on the X360 than on PC. Actually, every game I leech on PC (which is rare), I only play them like 5min, then delete them cuz I find them boring.
But I guess, if UBISoft is right and NPiracy is right, then people are downloading every game out there, are workless and have lots of free time to finish them and screw up developers by not buying it ?
Personally, i don't care at all about this game, another one I would have tried for 5min, and delete it... Didn't even bother to leech FIFA 09 PC when you can leech the better X360 version

Speak for yourself. I buy every game that I enjoy, not always buying the mediocre ones but if they are great then I buy them. However when it comes to 360 I always pirate no matter how good the game is just because I hate Micro$oft. For instance I saw The Witcher being mentioned, a single player game only on the Pc, no "consolization" and mature despite knowing you won't get as big of a crowd. And yes I bought it.
But yeah I agree, some people just leech and leech everything and never ever buys. But not everyone.
Edit: And everyone is acting like piracy on consoles is non-existant, I bet M$ is threatening to sue the ass of anyone who even mentions it. No doubt there is more pirating on the pc due to the simple fact that its easier. Ohh and didn't you guys get the memo? Pc gaming has been dead for decades and everyone in here are zombies!

Funny how those who never buy games say that not buying games is not killing pc gaming. Makes sense to me. Just like NOT buying american cars is NOT killing american auto industry. Makes sense to retards.
hey I got an idea, LETS get a handful of pirates to post on some company forums how not buying their games is making them money. |
You'll find its coz American cars suck balls, now people have a choice of far better quality imports they take them

Thats ironic because you just spent 1300 + around 300 for the console, + 65 for a single game...your nearing 2000 for that "inexpensive" console setup.
I bought my PC for 750, including monitor, about a year ago, and it runs Crysis Warhead at a steady 25-30fps on gamer settings, and will do fine till after the winter season at least. My next upgrade will probably cost...400-500 as I can reuse the case, the PSU, the monitor, the drives, etc.

Thats my point...thats why i said "upgrading for another 6 months"...cause you will need to put money on it, again and again. And everytime a PC gamer use this argument, he always use Crysis...so basicly, Crysis is the only descent game on PC for the last year.
