Hi guys,
I'm looking for a laptop that can handle "recent" games, but that's not the main reason I need one, I need to take it with me to the university. It doesn't have to be a specific model (which would be handy, off course), but a recommended manufacturer is fine. Also, I prefer a matte screen (which doesn't have to be tiny or huge, 15" is fine), and it should be between 700-1000€, although a higher priced one in dollars is fine (I'm not sure how much one euro is in dollar right now but I know it's more).
Also, which gfx cards are good for a laptop? The new ati's or nvidia's? As long as it's not shared memory!

take into consideration that a heavy 'desktop replacement' laptop sucks to drag around the library or wherever at school you'll have it. a couple years ago I had a heavy as fuck toshiba laptop that turned out to be a pain in the ass.
maybe get two? get a 'Netbook' for school and whatever else you want for home?

games are to be played on desktops, gaming on laptops just really doesn't work, the only ones i could remotely stand is the lego games and most isometric.
Anywho, if your going to uni, you'll want something durable
Nothing...and I mean NOTHING beats a lenovo. I recommended someone else here one and he absoletely loves it. The R/T60's and the new 61's have a mangesium alloy "roll" cage built in to help protect your laptop in case of it falling or an accidental smash to the wall. The HD also has a monitoring system built in that detects when your laptop has been dropped or detects vigorous movements and disables the heads on the HD to keep from hurting your drive.
The keyboards are also unmatched!

This is what i recently got from hp.com which lets you customize your own laptop (they had $500 off coupons)
- HP Pavilion dv5t Entertainment Notebook
- Genuine Windows Vista Home Premium with Service Pack 1 (32-bit)
- Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo Processor T9400 (2.53 GHz)
- 15.4" diagonal WSXGA+ High-Definition HP BrightView Infinity Display (1680 x 1050)
- 3GB DDR2 System Memory (2 Dimm)
- 512MB NVIDIA GeForce 9600M GT
- FREE Upgrade to 250GB 5400RPM SATA Hard Drive with HP ProtectSmart Hard Drive Protection
- [For BrightView Infinity Display] Webcam Only
- HP Color Matching Keyboard
- 802.11b/g WLAN
- No Modem
- LightScribe SuperMulti 8X DVD+/-RW with Double Layer Support
- No TV Tuner w/remote control
- 6 Cell Lithium Ion Battery
- Microsoft(R) Works 9.0
- Mobile Stereo Earbud Headphones (2 pair)
- HP Home & Home Office Store in-box envelope
And all for $1100. The resolution is just amazing. I tried css and dods (everything on high but no AA, but you dont really need it since the resolution is so high and the screen is small) and it runs above 50 fps most of the time. COD 4 also runs great. On the native resolution its a bit jerky, but lower either texture quality or the resolution a bit will make it VERY smooth, i was actually surprised how well it ran. Also runs my 1080p movies without a hitch. I havent tried other game but i figured since it ran cod so well, others should be just fine.
Though I dont know if HP delivers to Europe?
So yeah from personal experience dv5t is the way to go if you want a gaming laptop that wont break your bank.
Sig too big. -Nothing is too big for Fedor. Expect a nasty armbar.
