|
 |
So people, 2 debates tonight. VP debate in the US and Prime Minister debate in Canada.
Everyone watch (most of you will probably watch the american one, i dont think the canadian one gets international coverage) and lets discuss when they are done.
But in your replies put AMERICAN DEBATE or CANADIAN DEBATE as a header.
So waldo, nouse, pistol, I expect to hear some good comments from y'all (and to any other canadians on here that i didnt mention).
Im gunna watch the Canadian debate and record the american one. Thank god for dvr's/pvr's. I cant wait to see Palin look like a fool and going up against seasoned Joe Biden, she's bound to look foolish.
Btw, both start at 9pm EST. American one is on CNN and the Canadian one is on CBC

Palin has her hair down. So far she's doing remarkably well.

Palin gained a lot of ground tonight. Republicans nationwide are breathing a sigh of relief. I won't say she won, but she was certainly Biden's equal, and a far cry from the Katie Couric interview or Tina Fey's skit.

I havent watched the American debate yet, gunna put it on in a few minutes, recorded it.
But the Canadian debate was great. Everyone was attacking Stephen Harper (current PM and Conservative Party leader). Everything from his lies, to his 50 billion dollar tax breaks for oil companies, they kept calling him the Canadian George Bush.
It helped me alot in terms of who I am going to vote for. Im leaning more toward Liberal now because they have a good, solid plan for Canada...but so does the NDP (New Democratic Party).
The only problem I have with the Liberal leader, Stephen Dion, is that english isnt his first language and he doesnt express himself well in english. But that can be fixed with a little schooling.
But NDP also has some good ideas on how to improve Canada and Jack Layton impressed me tonight with his debating skills. So I dunno. Im gunna have to read more about the NDP and Liberal plan before I make a choice.
Ive voted Liberal my whole adult life but I might just vote NDP this year as i dont think Stephen Dion is a capable leader. He's a skinny, frail looking guy. A Prime Minister or President or whatever needs to be strong - in terms of appearance, voice, action etc and Jack Layton (NDP) has those qualities.
But it was a good debate

Well, I watched the american debate.
I think both did good jobs but Palin always does a good job when she's prepared. When she's interviewed on the fly, she sucks and lets her true colours show.
They should have asked her what she meant when she said she has alot of foreign experience because Alaska is beside Canada and across the way from Russia.
She's good when rep speech writers give her answers, but when she has to speak for herself, she's a complete fuckin idiot.

She said nada, absolutley nothing, and if you think any different then your mislead. She said nothing because she knows bugger all
And the only thing biden did nicely was mention his family crisis, and then that was pushed on you all anyhow. Good riposte even though he didnt mean it.
These people would be completely hosed if they had to go before Congress every Monday morning and take their licks.
Don't be surprised. The lumpenprole are in charge. That's what got us into this mess in the first place.

What I find the most disturbing is how can anyone ever think of voting another christian fundementalist in the white house? John McCain might be alot better than Bush but what if he succumb to his age before his term is over? Then we have a woman who obviously not ready for the precidency and is a believer in some outrageous christian claims like homosexuality can be "cured" and complete disregard of the teachings of darwin...

exactly my friend.
McCain is old and there is a good chance he could die in office if he wins. I sure as hell wouldnt want a evangelical christian running my country.
Ive even heard her say that abortion shouldnt be allowed even if its the result of incest or rape. Like wtf?
And yeah, the homosexuality thing is just fuckin retarded.
Plain and simple, she's a typical christian fanatic. Yet she has the tits to bash muslim fanatics. She's no different than they are.
I would like to see her do one interview, on a national stage, where she doesnt know what the questions will be so she cant prepare. Then we will see her true colours.
Cause every interview she's done where she didnt know what the questions would be, she fucks up big time.
Im happy to say my american family members are smart enough not to vote for her or the republicans.
As for abortion, that should be left up to the woman. If the fetus is under a certain age (i think its like 3 months) then the choice should be up to the woman and she should in no way be condemmed for having an abortion.
Why bring a child into this world if its gunna suffer and or live in poverty?
Or imagine a woman is raped and keeps the child. One day the child is gunna ask about her daddy. Whats her mom gunna say? Well, one day I got loaded at a party and some guy held me down and raped me and thats how you were conceived.
A child should be conceived through love, not through violence.
Like that hatebreed song title "Conceived through the act of violence"....

what a waste of time.. she's a stupid woman, picked for one reason: tits. she fucks up one on one interviews then talks like a pre-recorded message on the stage.. i watched about 30min then had to walk out. did either of them actually answer any of the questions presented to them? or was it "well mr. maverick did this cause he's a heckuva guy" or "mr. change has gotta a plan, srsly"

Yeah, problem was, all the strong pre-recorded mantra's were the same ones Mccain used during the last debate..
Kind of highlighted it...

I'm not the biggest fan of strategic voting, but ...

Yeah she wasn't good...
dead giveaway was the first sentence of every response was always slightly out of context with the question presented..
Just keyword triggers..

In contrast I liked Biden's response about the position of Vice President...
It implied a really strong Idealistic nature and a depth of knowledge and passion for the system...

It's funny how those states look to a party that is quicker to support wall st. than they are in supporting health care for all and education. That appeal of the republican party for the two extreme strata of society has always confused me. But you're right. It's all about perception and policy doesn't even figure in the decision.

Mr Haidt should have followed his own advice when he wrote that piece.
Quote: | Democrats, in contrast, appeal to reason with their long-winded explorations of policy options for a complex world. |
But he is right though because it is presumptious for one group to impose what they see as their 'values' on another group which might see them as restrictive or too liberal. And yet certain values appeal to people across boundaries. A good example of that is the hispanic vote which is no longer something the democrats can take as a given.
