I won't bore you with the details about why I am asking this question. I will just ask the question.

I currently have 2 gigs of ram in my system that runs at 1066mhz.
(I had 4, but I had to remove the other 2 for reasons).

Would I be better off getting 4 gigs in my systems that will be running at 800mhz or just sticking with the 2 gigs of 1066mhz?

from my experience, 4GB of RAM will improve the speed at which apps load and generally the whole OS will seem faster. lowering the 1066 to 800Mhz wont make that much of a difference.. it could knock a few fps off but nothing serious.

Why did u take 2GB 1066 out, overclocking issue?

most boards like 2 sticks of 2gb not 4 sticks of 1gb, which I have and had to do alot of voltage fiddling to get it stable at around 900 or so mhz, but dominator ram can take the punishment hehe.. My abit Aw9dmax board can be a bit mental like that with voltages but still runs extremely well for me.

I highly recomend 4gigs ram with vista 64bit os.. as newty said the diff in 800 or 1066 is bloody near enough non existing. for a gamer that is, for bench tests then yeah 1066 be fun.

dont worry urself over high clocks ud be suprised how little it does really Razz

I had 4 sticks of 1 gig Corsair Dominator ram in my machine.
I have an EVGA 680i mobo.

Anyway, I was getting this damned nvlddmkm.sys blue screen crash in Vista. Not with everything, but the things it did get it on was pretty consistent.

After poking around the internet for AGES and trying EVERYTHING to fix it, I came across someone who was saying if you were running 4 sticks in all 4 slots to remove all but the 2 primary ones. i didn't think it would work. But I tried it, and I be damn if my system has not crashed 1 time since. The memory i removed tested ok so it wasn't that. I dunno if it is something specific to my mobo that Vista doesn't like with all 4 slots occupied or what. I also tried setting everything at default clock speeds before removing the 2 sticks. I also tried under clocking the ram. But, the only thing that solved the crashing was removing sticks from those 2 slots.

So anyway, i want to go back to 4 gigs because I am noticing a slight slugishness to my system when i use Adobe Photoshop. I use that to make my living.
I've also noticed some slight stuttering in Warhammer Online now (no frame rate loss that i can see).
The dominator ram is still fairly expensive compared to other brands... so if the performance was going to be negligible, i was just going to go with 800 mhz.

altho takems is cl5 i can barely see any difference compared to cl 4 and surely better to have xtra 2 gigs now that u use x64 based OS

Difference between 800 and 1000 is unnoticable in new games, unless You are nerd who spends most of the day beating his score in SPI, then You are WAY BETTER OFF with 4gb.

Lower your ram to 800, then you can always try to lower the timings.
