Be aware though that this is not an accepted fact by the general gaming community, merely an expression of one persons opinion. And does not represent the opinion of the general ViP member base on nfohump nor that of it's administrator or moderators.
Pretty soon we'll have eula's and disclaimers on forums post's so as to be certain that people who have a general tendency to get easily offended, won't be so offended by the content of said posts and if they do get offended it's still their own problem. |
nobody said Crysis is a better game, I said it looks better graphically.

who cares if the graphics are scaled for freakin consoles, i'm hoping for some great gameplay/atmosphere/story (not so sure about the story though)
Intel Core 2 Quad Q6600 - ASUS P5Q-PRO - Mushkin XP2-6400 4GB - Gainward HD4850 Golden Sample - WD 3200AAKS (managed to fry this one, ffs) + WD 6400AAKS - Thermaltake 550W PSU - Thermaltake Soprano VX case

Peeps who care about quality graphics care whether the game graphics have been scaled. Many of those same peeps spend large amounts of moola on their rigs because graphics are important to them.
That is a substantial chunk of pc gamers because many/most peeps who don't care so much about gfx have gone to consoles.
I'm a confirmed PC gamer and altho I won't die in a ditch over graphics I completely understand those who do feel more strongly. Not least of all because it is such a dumb thing for game publishers to do. Tantamount to destroying a brand for short term gain.
Once again where are the hardware manufacturers in all this? What will it take for them to push this barrow too. Console users spend $300 over 4 years or so on hardware, PC gamers often spend at least twice that ($600) per year on hardware.

Well, the fact that the game was scaled down for consoles might not be that bad thing really.
First off we get a lot better performance and since the game offers badass world to freeroam good fps is a must. Secondly, the game WILL be availble on consoles (hurray, I can play it whenever there is a TV :>) and finally we get something more than just awesome graphics - a need to push it further and stronger with the story, provided it'll be good enough that is.
Plus, however you look at the game it doesn't seem that bad in terms of GFX. The closest one to compare to would IMHO be Bioshock (putting aside enclosed territories in B of course) with awesome graphics and fairly good fps. Anyways, looking forward to it :>. Not much to go

I kinda hoped you could modify weapons with silencers and scopes, etc, but no. There is in this case only a MP5-SD5, which does 0 zero damage except on critical areas like the throat. It won't pierce through any armour. Maximum effective range is like 30 meters aswell, ugh.
Oh yeah, you can use a silenced Colt .45 or a dart-gun, retarded.
Next to that if you find a nice weapon, it will breakdown, lose reliability untill it explodes in your hands. Cleaning your weapon or any kind of technical repairs / upgrades are not 'immersive' I suppose...

So, those who preorder the game from select stores apparently get several hours' worth of bonus missions
Quote: | Ubisoft officially confirms the October 21 North American release date for Far Cry 2 revealed on Friday The announcement includes news of an exclusive deal with GameStop/EB that will get preorder customers an exclusive limited edition of the game at no additional cost. The Limited Edition will offer a fold-out map, exclusive packaging, and "6 Bonus Missions with about 3 bonus hours of explosive gameplay." |
Quote: | When you pre-order Far Cry 2 from hmv.com, you’ll get four exclusive additional missions, which will tell the story of what happened before the events in the main Far Cry 2 game. Here’s information of what the missions are:
* The Georgian: The Georgian informant has gone into hiding at the Fuel Depot in UFLL territory, find him and discover what your predecessor learned from him about the Jackal’s location.
* The Bolivian: The Bolivian informant is on the run, trying to escape the country by stealing a plane from a small airfield in APR territory. Try to get to him before your predecessor does.
* Special Delivery: Your employers have more information for you about your predecessor – learn the location of his new dead drop and raid it to find information about his secret meetings.
* Le Francais: A French smuggler and arms dealer who may have been providing arms to the Jackal has been tipped off, and your predecessor is trying to stop him from crossing the border. Find out what Frenchman’s price is.

What the fuck?

Who's your predecessor? And why are you intent on stopping him?
I know! He's the Jackal!

Far Cry 2: Hardware nerds’ gaming experience
We just came back from a short trip to Montreal where we visited Ubisoft and took a closer look at their latest action game Far Cry 2.
Ubisoft had two systems prepared for us. Below you can see the components we could identify:
System 1 (DX9)
CPU: Core 2 Quad QX6700
GPU 2x Geforce 8800 Ultra
RAM: 2,5 GiByte
Chipset: Nforce 780i SLI or 680i SLI
OS: Windows XP SP2
System 2 (DX10)
CPU: Core 2 Quad QX9650
GPU: Geforce GTX 280
RAM: 4 GiByte
OS: Windows Vista 32 Bit
With one of the two systems we started a new game and played the story. Right from the start we are impressed by the atmosphere that really makes us feel like we were on the African continent. This is supported by the coherent visualization: the vegetation, objects and characters fit into the scenario. Nothing looks like its fresh from the factory, but most things are dirty and dusted.
While playing, we noticed that Far Cry 2 uses up to 60 percent of the CPU capacity in some situations. This is remarkable since those values are reached on the high-end device QX9650. The two programmers of Ubisoft, whom we interviewed, told us that a quad-core CPU would deliver 30 percent better performance on average than an identical dual-core processor. The RAM usage is about 600 Megabyte – even after a long time playing on Windows Vista (32 Bit). On the first test system Far Cry 2 was running smoothly at 1,680 x 1,050 with high details and activated HDR and Bloom. In regards of the graphics settings we noticed, that the framerate increased a lot when we set the details from Very High to High. In combination with the information we got during our technical interview, we therefore assume that Far Cry 2 will, with adjusted settings, run quite good even on weak systems. When comparing DX 10 and DX9 we noticed that in DX10 the shadows were a bit softer and did flicker a lot less. The programmers confirmed our observation. Furthermore the water effects are said to look better in DX10. |

important points:
30% performance difference between dual core and quad core
600mb of ram used in long hours of gaming
far cry 2 does have dx10, with a few and minor difference in gfx
