Never played original game more than 2 hours because of this. G3 could have been great (loved DOF in this game) with a good official patch that fixed the combat crap. is this TBA yet?

yes and they changed the engine to use instances instead a streaming open world. Cant help but i doubt these indian guys will do anything good to the gothic series. Same with Jowood/Spellbound.

It's called outsourcing and it happens everywhere corporations want to save some money.
I don't believe that these indians will do the game any good - but I would say that about any developer not piranha bytes. Hence I've not the slightest interest in this so called "expansion" pack.

I'm only interested in this expansion, because we may get an "enhanced" version of Gothic 3. Something ... playable maybe ?
The latest community patch improves a lot, but still it's not 100% playable (for me/my PC)

Expansion isn't really supposed to be all that much though, merely bridging together the ending of Gothic 3 with the beginning of the sequel for it, Arcania: A Gothic Tale or Gothic: Arcania as it's also known as (Gothic 4.)
I'm also very interested in Piranhas new game, hopefully leaving Jowood for a bit (Though they've reconciled and are now working together again from what I've read.) means they'll get more time to develop the game as they want in order to avoid issues like those in Gothic 3 because it was shipped to early. (Was a bit too ambitious as well.)
(Gothic 1 and Gothic 2 also had bugs but not in the same scale as G3 and most of those were fixed though G2 was nearly redone in that gold edition upgrade/expansion for it.)

I didn't play Gothic 3 at the time because my PC wasn't up to it and the game wasn't stable, but I absolutely loved Gothic 2 and would put it in my top 5 list of all time RPGs easy, so one pretty blonde question, when this expansion/addon whatever you want to call it comes out will I be able to play the original Gothic 3 storyline in this new and improved engine?

Nope it's stand-alone, however the 1.7 patch for G3 should be out a bit before the addon and G3 works quite good with the 1.6 patch.
(Ofcourse even with most actual bugs fixed there are still various design choices that won't be changed or can't be without heavily modifying the engine such as the combat model.)

Damn that's really disappointing, you'd have thought they'd make a way for the old G3 campaign to run in the "new engine" would have in theory increased revenues as many, many people didn't buy G3 because of the bugs/performance issues.

I was following the official forums for a while some time ago, according to the guys who coded for the community patch the original code was a total mess. So an expansion is the best we'll get sadly. A redesigned Gothic 3 would be great, but what's past is past I guess.

Yeah, the gothic 3 battle system is ... well ... ridiculous, yeah that's the right word.

gothic 3 here on amd 6000+ x2 , 2 gig ram , 9600gt 512ram all on high in 1360*768 and i get 79fps ... without any tweaks and patches the vanilla out of the box version , next time check your system then complain

i had an x2 4400 2.4 ghz, 2x1024 and an 8800GT and couldn't even run the fucking game on low,
I do envy you, it doesn't matter the situation, you always manage to find a way to spit your bullshit on everyone and call THEM the noobs, may i remind you it was YOU who said MS was going to release a DX10 patch for the 360 elite |
