ummm you could destroy buildings during seige with catapults and canons and they would stay damage and non working until you repaired them. |
i suggest you re-read what i wrote.
yes, you could destroy buildings, but it had no impact at all on the battle. It didn't gave you any advantage or anything (during the battle). |
sorry mate, my bad guess i was a bit tierd when i read the msg. |
but it did gave an advantage in battle. for example consider the walls. a higher level of the wall allowed you to launch attacks on multiple places of that wall, thus allowing you to attack from several places. i'd say thats quite an advantage afterall. at least it allowed me to box-in the defending army . if you are reffering to any other building you could destroy, then you're right, you had no advantage, only disadvantages (you had to repair/rebuild that structure)

You got me thinking. Are there even any sieges in empire:tw? There wasn't many sieges in that period, and those that were didn't accomplish much, those fortress towns were impregnable.
Not that I'm complaining, sieges were always poorly made.

yeah especially the AI sucked majorly in all the TW games when it came to sieges. Its like they went totally passive until you moved to them, and even then it was a joke. Especially when it comes to defending the town square ... it was close to impossible for the AI to capture a town of me, no matter what army he brought to war ...

@dawe4: i have the same question in mind since i found out abut this game . you're kinda right, there were very little sieges during the game period but you never know. maybe there will be sieges.
about the former TW games.... true, the AI was worse than useless . but the sieges were quite a good thing when playing with weaker units than what the AI had. it was the only way to balance things

Looks totally awesome!
As for the question of siege...well you can at least garrison
or build your own fortifications

Yeah I think most people find the medieval period much more interesting and there is the religious plot twist as well.

I am playing medieval tw 2, and I'm not complaining, I'm just stating that I don't like the time period of this new total war game.
I'm not saying that it makes Empire TW a bad game or anything. jesus. lol

while Empires will introduce early-guns and rifles, it will still emphasize on sword and hand to hand combat - as you can see in the video as well.
besides, i dont remember these total war guys doing anything wrong. anything from shogun and medieval total war was ace. i've spent days on rome total war and i didnt even like strategy games.
can't wait for this one.

It amazes me more when people bitch about other people bitching but they don't realize they are the ones that are pointlessly bitching about nothing

ok .. well ... pointless ... anyway ...
the one thing that was lacking majorly in ALL total war games ... was the AI. The vanilla AI is as dumb as they come and as useless as it gets...
and i don't think this will be different here, unless they hired some of the great modders who made their previous game actually challenging and better ... (im sorry, but playing the previous TW games "vanilla" was frustrating and boring. It was the mods that made those games great and awesome. Kinda like it was with Battlefield 1942 ... boring and almost shitty "vanilla", great wth mods).

My favorite total war is still Shogun somehow it really clicked with the atmosphere of the whole Japanese culture and those ninja cutscenes, there where guns later in the game which was historically accurate some clans still thought it wasn't not honorable to use them though it was actually kind of fun as the cavalry charged and you killed them with a volley of crumby guns that didn't work when it rained so I expect guns will be fun again in this game.
Rome just didn't have that atmosphere for me, Medieval1 was amazing as well same engine as Shogun.

yes it all looks great and all.. but i sure hope they get better campaign map AI and battle A.I.. those things were quite horrible in MTW2 still
I mean that A.I was almost on the same level as Rome Total War, maybe even a bit worse.

MTW2 Was same engine as RTW just slightly upgraded. This time they have rewritten the whole stuff and at least they are saying that the A.I will be better. I hope it is because if it is this game is going to be amazing.
