Thats only because the servers were being hammered. I tried the day after and it took about 5 mins.

well, tell that to my friends. Both tried it around 8 to 12 pm. They both had to create a steam account and authenticate the game. The one who couldnt get it to work nearly brought it back to the shop because of it, but i told him that he should try it the next day and it did work fine then.

Now, valve lost cuz simply the news of the stupid steam activation annoyed SO many people into getting the warez version instead of the retail version.
Until 3 months ago I had a 56k connection, there was no way in hell I could've bought the retail and then went on to download 1gig of shit from steam just so they can have their stupid copy protection which is, ironically, broken already.
Many people here still have 56k connections and all those people went to the warez versions instead of the retail.
|
Damn what a fucktard. |
Grow up mate and add to the argument instead of swearing when you feel stupid.
And yea, you're freaking stupid too cuz people on 56k who couldn't download the steam shit didn't download 4gigs you retard. Downloading in not the only way to get something you know, people take from their friends. I personally gave this game to all my friends who couldn't buy the original cuz they can't download the 1gig from steam
With the warez version peopel are able to just take it from someone, but with valve's steam you MUST connect to the internet so please stop being an asshole and if you have something to say that MAKES sense say it, otherwise go find something useful to do

Brought HL2, via steam...
The game sucked... should have pirated it before i brought it, to test...
Basicly it just a linear game that shows off their game engine imo.
Having alot of sound buggs that laggs the game up at times with SB audity 2 cards. Atleast at mine and my friends comp.
Nah wont buy any games after this from Valve either, too clumsy both on distrubution and in their marketing campaign with their endless excuses and delays.

As a matter of fact (and as many of you have posted) I didn't really mean Hl2 was uncrackable/unwarezable.
What I'm trying to say is that Valve has probably made the situation worse for pirates. I imagine someone could play the warez version with a number of fixes (knowing what to tweak and what not to tweak), even though this is not an answer. I'm accustomed to releases which work immediately, and all the little necessary tweaking is usually mentioned in the .nfo file. Suffice to say I think there's no glory in releasing uncracked games (sadly, it must be the trend lately, since I'm seeing more and more fucking clonecd rls), but at least they always work.
Hl2 brought changes: maybe the hardcore old school pirate can play it, but you can't deny the number of people who can't get it work correctly is impressive. I've never seen installing problems, bugs, crashes or issues whatsoever to such an extent.
I don't think Valve incited piracy, to me it's the opposite. Maybe the elite piracy in Irc Rings doesn't really care about a fix or two, but the casual downloader who gets his games from emule, kazaa, winmx and so on is doomed. It is needless to say, common downloaders are the majority.
To me, Valve's gonna win unless a cracked and fully working (offline) Hl2 release is out soon.

Got the Emporio Proper + Fix. Work great! without connection at all (that's great) and cd in drive...
Happy to haven't spend money on this. Good game but Valve
is going to make big money with this, don't need mine.
Warez is always the best!!!!

if you just read the messages in this thread you can clearly see that the release works fine as long as you install some fixes properly no big deal ,only if you are an noob you can not install it correctly believe me this is absolutly no problem for die hard pirates and if you think that this will go on forever with future releases then you are wrong the cracking groups will grow stronger because of all this .

erm..... the way i look at it, i paid £60 for star wing and about £70 for ocarina of time. this was £30 well and truely spent. at least now i can play the countless mods that will be coming out in 6 months (thats when i reckon it'll start to even out to a steady rate). until then im willing to wait. This game wont depreciate in a year's time either, its a solid game who's engine has been heavily modified. idk how you guys are getting audio lag try changing the quality im pretty sure it wont spoil it.

Yeah, you'll have to buy the game to get to play all the mods, which is half the reason for getting HL2.

Uhh... yeah. Your computer becomes obsolete every few years too, bud.

And struggling families can afford $1500 on a new computer HOW?

Oh wait no need for that since it sold more copies than hl2.
Valve owned pirates
Blizzard owned valve

My opionion is liek so: This game is no different from any other.
So if you spend 50$ on it, you should do so for every other game.
There are games that took longer to develop and games that are better than this.
As who is gonna win? Piracy. You can buy HL2 here for 3 euro fully working, cracked by some russian group. It is on 5 cds, like the original.
My final word is: If you play any game longer than 24 hours, you should buy it. Support the developers
For the Motherland!

Let's see , every release so far has been nuked , so we are stuck with individuals hacking together their own releases. All the popular release groups won't touch this one with a 10 foot pole , so until a legit release comes out ,(which is impossibe under current scene rules) Valve has won this one.
