They are?

I play, and enjoy both FIFA 08 and UEFA 08 and I'm not noticing a great deal of difference gameplay wise. My only concern would be the lack of control fidelity but as I'm using a PS2-to-USB convertor that's more likely the culprit than the game itself (as this lack of sensitivity extends to other games).

Graphically it's not as lush perhaps - the field in particular - but I don't know... the frame rates are stellar, the graphics are alright, the players are detailed and the gameplay is the same. I'm not really seeing anything here to warrant a comment like 'console versions are much better'. It doesn't appear to be the case to me.

I'll try the PS3 demo tomorrow and maybe I'll be proven wrong, but I think FIFA fans who don't have a console will enjoy this iteration.

I have to agree with Ispep on all his points.

- Graphics are quite decent and the framerate is by all means excellent.
- The players look really nice.
- The animations are pretty well done and the collisions are much better this year, making the gameplay seem more varied rather than predetermined.
- The shots still look a little meh.
- The mouse control takes getting used to but is a nice innovation.
- Finally, menus are easy to navigate through, are on 1280x1024 by default on my screen which makes them clear, and are quite fast without long, crappy-fps animations that take years to finish. I went to a game in seconds, and got back to the Main Menu in less than one.
- The in-game interface seems better, more stats provided.

I don't know if it will get me playing it as much as Pro Evo (playing a few games with the gang will decide this as with every year), but it's certainly the best installment in years, maybe since FIFA 2003 & 2004.

Is it really too much to ask that the FIFA off the next gen consoles could be ported to PC? I can't imagine the console version playing like that, never mind looking like it.

And as for the controls being fully customisable, unless it's changed for retail, half the options are still missing.

Janz, what's your setup - and what resolution? It's faster than both UEFA and FIFA 08 on my PC. The gameplay is zippier as well. Something must be wrong on your end.

playing at 1680x1050, full details. the fps are not the problem, its the gameplay. sure you are right if u compare the demo with the previous pc versions of fifa08 and uefa. but have u ever player the console versions? two different worlds. on consoles you have an awesome football game. pc version simply does not deliver a real football fealing cause the gameplay feels like shit. i know some people who have played the console version of fifa09 at the gc a few weeks ago. they sad its an awesome game and this demo has nothing to do with that what they played

btw: almost every shot from a decent position is a goal. keepers are stupid as every year (and yes i know, most likely the cpudifficult is set to a low level but that has nothing to do with the goalkeepers)

Well I don't see anything wrong with your setup, but I own the two console games you're talking about and I don't accept your comments. They are so wrong it's untrue. For what it's worth the game isn't actually meant to play exactly like either of the previous games - if it did it wouldn't be a new iteration. But as has already been said; we'll see when the demos for the consoles come out. I suspect you may be in for a disappointment because gameplay wise I'm not seeing how it's going to be any better.

After playing the demo and losing 0:2 i must say the graphic is ok, player are pretty good detailed, as well as the animations, the audience is bitmapped as it was before, you have to click on next after the half time that sucks.. Average game...

It wouldn't make sense to create a game for three platforms and not keep the parts of the code that don't need to be unique to their specific platforms individually developed....

Would cost more to make the game the way you guys are implying?

"Improved collision detection"

Laughing

Anyway, graphics are nice, but plays very similiar to previous years.
Still waiting for proper next-gen vesion, but maybe I'll give it longer try this year.

And I can't set some buttons on my gamepad... more specificaly actions to buttons.
Hope full version will have it fixed.

Improved is what the word says, improved. Which is a relative term, not an absolute one.

I can excuse a few occurences of bad go-through collisions if it's not a game where tackles are non-existant and the goalkeeper's hand is 5 feet away from the ball on-collision.

You know what I mean.

Biggest problem I had was erratic consistency with regards to response.....

Like even Ronaldihno would sometimes need freaking 15 yards before the system would acknowledge that he'd got the ball under control enough to be able to kick......At which point some big defender had long since barged you into the freaking stands.....

Wouldn't matter if it was consistently sluggish, because then you could naturally adapt; but because it's erratic you can't really build up reflexes you can trust completely....which leads to frustration...

Heh, vent over....

I also hope Pro Evo improves net functionality for the next game, because, even if you're a complete Fifa fanboy; you need healthy competition to temper EAs ability to introduce stealth charge services....

It is, just for consoles.

Anyway I've got problem running the game.
I played quite few matches and the game won't run at all.
It just "blinks" and quit.
So I tried it on Vista - it run but after few startings - no go.
WTF?

For what it's worth if you forget FIFA 09 exists on consoles then you can enjoy a decent FIFA on the PC finally - but it's not as good as the newest versions unfortunately.
