Wait, what? Same weapons don't stack? They don't ****ing stack?!

What. The. Hell.

Well that's a downer. Game is fun the first time around, but I couldn't get past the tribe stage since I found it boring.

Repetitive as hell and not as good as it was made out to be. Fun for a bit but yeah.

The game is an interesting piece.

Cell stage: i find this is where you can have the most interesting variations, as the build of your "cell" directly affects what you can do.

Animal stage: the hunting for the various bits makes this a little tedious, not to mention the fact that it seems to be impossible to unlock heads not related to your eating habits. The fact that multiple weapons of the same type have no effect really suck.

Tribal stage: This gives you a taste of the repetitive nature of the later stages. Once you get a grip of it, this stage is fairly easy. Theres only two nice things about this stage. The animation of your "leader" leading the tribe into this stage, and the fact that some of the animal specialities, like stealth or flying carry over neatly into the tribal tactics.

Civilization stage: I would rate this the 2nd most fun part of the game after the cell stage. It is basically a very simplistic rts.

Space stage: Tedious and unplayable. The horrible UI and the constant stream of never ending ecological disasters and pirate raids make this stage a real chore to play. The fact that this one lasts the longest only adds to the frustration.

I hope they make the necessary adjustments to make this stage a lot more user friendly - like reducing event frequency and imporving the UI. Would they done that, this stage could actually be quite fun.

Also controlling more than one space ship (fleet) would be a nice addition to help manage things.

Will see how it looks after the first few patches.. that is, if they intend to fix the above mentioned things.

actually once you play long enough, you get a slot for a second ship to go with you
but i couldn't find a fucking button anywhere where i could purchase one
it's the final straw for me.. it's shelved until it's radically fixed

On the space stage, that only happens if you are aggressive, explore without building a power base and don't collect all items in cell/creature.

After a restart I went about 45 minutes in cell, 7 hours in creature, 3 hours in tribal (domestication helps!) and 3 hours in civ, then space where I did bare minimum for 3 hours...

Now, I'm pretty much flying around and exploring, if someone is hostile when I meet them, their planets go bye-bye... blow up a few colonies of anyone and they come crawling for peace, and they go back to yellow status..

Also, if one species is giving you a particular headache, why not delete it from the sporepedia? Affects current games.

Did this after reading on official boards to see if it would affect things... and boy did it..

If not, try the below..

"Here's my quick, simple guide.
1. Get the Mini Bomb.
2. Bomb the heck out of a few of their empires. Seriously, it takes like 3 shots to their town hall to get them to submit.
3. Get the Conqueror 2 badge and get the JustaBomb weapon.
4. Rinse and repeat.

The entire starmap around my home planet is riddled with green alliances now. The bomb is probably the most powerful starting weapon in the game.
Oh, and after you've captured a few star systems, your enemy will surrender and go back to yellow-face status.

Good luck =)

if your having this much trouble with enemys remove that enemy from your sporepedia simple ...it works"

From RPS (http://www.rockpapershotgun.com/2008/09/05/spore-things-to-know/);

Quote:
Here’s the three things you should know about Spore.

1) Spore is a four hour character creator for a polished version of Space Rangers 2. It’s neat.
2) Ignore anyone’s opinion who’s played it less than - oooh - eight hours. There’s certainly good reasons to dislike or even dismiss Spore, but it takes that point before you see past your preconceptions.
3) There is no Autosave. I repeat: there is no autosave.

Quote:
Funnily enough, I’m seeing it in exactly the opposite terms - I think reviewers are afraid of being the Black & White reviewers and are deliberately upping their criticism - which is one reason why even the positive reviews seem to be full of complaints.

In short: I suspect if Spore was released with less hype, it’d have had better scores. I suspect the fact Spore is so unlike anything else - by being a bit like everything else - that reviewers are slightly nervous around giving it too good marks, in case no-one likes it.

Quote:
When you play the earlier games, it’s clear there isn’t much more depth there compared to a normal strategy game… but they’re designed to be comprehensible and entertaining for that very brief period of time. The problem with that is, on the first play through, you’re being mildy entertained and wondering “is this it?”. Spore is a big game - in terms of scope - and its actual experience is actually quite intimate. It’s not blowing you away in the way that you’re expecting it too.

Quote:
You realise that the previous four hours weren’t actually the real game. They were about creating a customised race which you have a degree of affection for, with traits shaped by your actions in four stages. When you downplay the importance of the earlier stages in your mind, they make much more sense.

Quote:
In other words, when you stop thinking about the early stages as the real game and something more akin to a character creator, you start having a lot more affection for them.

I've yet to complete the Space stage so I'm still undecided but it's an interesting way of looking at the game which I still can't seem to put down.

sad i cant try it out more on my own pc (vid card burned, now i have a 1.4 Shader thing only -.-), but tried this after borrowing my buddies Card and i must say, it has MUCH potential but i guess it turned out like many expected (an EA Money Milking Cow), they release the half baked version at first, and then start throwing out expansion packs and after 2 or 3 expansions and/or Patches. the game finally gets closer to being worthy of the hype. im pretty sure after a year or so the game will be BANGIN! and after that it will go like the sims.

all n all id say it turned out much as my pessimistic mind hoped, they talked about it like jesus is comin riding on a burning unicorn wieldin dual Plasma cannons, but all we got was Tom Crusie on a trike wielding a bag of crazy.

you don't complete the space stage. it doesn't end. you get to the center of the galaxy after one retarded game design decision after another, then get another silly video and a 42 uses gimmick that insta terraforms a planet to stage 3 (well, that's what i got, maybe it's random seeing as i still have some questionmarks left on equipment.. or rather had, because i uninstalled the game for now).

the whole space age is one retarded game design decision after another:
having to first create/select then manually place each friggin builing on each fucking colony, having empires on the other end of the galaxy spawn missions for you (wheee, 2minutes to cross the milky way), the inability to buy off or delegate missions, the fact that you have to visit a planet of the empire in order to communicate with them, the fact that you can only fill up fleet slots with individual empires, so if you want all your fleet ships on max level (last one minute in a raid on a grox planet), you first need to find five max lvl empires.
having to wade through hundreds(!!) of enemy systems to reach the core (though it's possible to befriend them, and it's annoying as hell, but not nearly as annoying as having to fight them...
having your reach reduced more the closer you are to the center, which forces you several times to go hundreds of systems back, circle around, and find a new approach, btw, forget going to the center unless you have drive nr5 (1500 doubleclicks between systems required for that).

ARGH

yes, everything prior to space is basically not the game, but a glorified editor for how you want your race to look like during space age, but space age is the most annoying of all the phases. whoever said it was a polished sr2 is a filthy stupid lier and deserves sterilization.

Yep, i made a kick-ass predator with around 9 claws and was wondering that it just does about damage like with one (maxed) claw. So why the hell bother putting more than ONE set of legs, ONE set of arms, ONE weapon.

Also eyes and noses seem to be totally useless.

Don't like it anymore they really fucked up the later stages, so bland and boring with no details, no matter how you equip the vehicle it will shoot the same and move the same it's like a child's game, the rts part sucks the one in space rangers 2 (an elite type of game) is much better.

Well the gathering food part isn't any better either, in the end I have to wonder why they attempted so many different things in one game since most of them suck.

Can anyone tell me if I buy the game from the EA store right now for digital download... Will they send me my cdkey now?

Or is it only Direct2Drive that does that.

Pretty pointless, seeing how the Creature Creator is removed when you install the full game.

So, how the get the 5th tribe to kill or mingle with? Have four totem faces, but there are no tribes left on the island, except green I allied with. Is it a bug or do I really have to wait forever for some of those pack animals to evolve to tribal stage?

Kinda stuck now, had to kill one epic monster just to have something to do. Normal difficulty sure was better choice than easy, other tribes kicked my butt several times Smile (or I'm just bad)

Yep, problem was that it was a cyan totem piece that I though was green and I wasn't yet allied with them, even though they brought me food all the time Smile Went and did it properly this time and now I'm ready for next stage.
