I fail to see how this is a "bad game". It was the most organic gameplay experience I've had.

I didn't have a clear plan for my creature...I just went with the flow and evolved as the situation required it. Ultimately I went the route of "true warrior" (beat all stages in red) and got this walking ant/mantis hybrid...thing. If I had any complaints about this game it would be the fact that you have to hunt down parts in creature stage. I basically just went from group to group killing and looting bones. Up until that point it felt more like I was evolving a creature, but now it just felt like I was playing a game. I know that won't make much sense to most of you, but you're also the ones who zipped through the game expecting it to have a story/ending.

The point of the game is in the guts, and the end is a nice little junior 4X game using everything you've built up to that point.

Most of you can stop reading.

So here I am, a little floating....thing. I'm a carnivore, I eat meat. So off I go to explore. Meat was hard to find, so I started killing for my food. It was inneficient. I'm not built to kill. As I kill, I get better at it, until one day...mutation?! My "offspring" has spikes! Suddenly, I was too be feared! Until that giant blob thing ate me. I'm too slow. So I evolve fins to evade my hunters, and improve on my killing.
Suddenly (as can be, considering were talking the time consuming process of evolution), there's more to this than water, and I find myself crawling onto land. Shit just got real, or so they say in my tribe. New experiences...new things to kill and eat...unfortunately I need to adapt.

...

How can you really say this game is boring? Do any of you even have imaginations anymore?

i can has computar?!

Well because this game was so ridiculously hyped everyone wanted to give it a try, no matter if they like these kind of games or not. So basically all the mediocre console shooter fans, CS kiddies, MMO junkies etc. gave Spore a go and naturally there will be people who don't like the game because simply it's not for them.

I agree this is a very good game, different and it does what it set out to do well, feeling of evolution, adaptation, you have a lot of freedom to customize your creature.

Buy the game, start a new planet, find new aliens to kill (created by other players). Or try the peaceful route!

i dont get this game
i loaded up a new game and swam around and ate the green and red dots then i was in some village after getting enough DNA, i quit
i later started a game that already had a village/buildings etc, as I was walking around i saw this massive beast that had like 1000HP, 20x the size as anything in the map...i ran then quit
what are you suppose to do? gather food, and attack other villages?

you must be a creationist?
*badum tshh*

ok, i had serious doubts but the game is pretty fun to play
but it's still like a collage of small games that none of which are particularly well done
all the advancements like finding bodyparts in bones feels like a retarded afterthought
especially the space bit is up the arse as absolutely nothing is explained
like how the hell do i build a second ship?
why can't i put a colony where i damn well please?
and why do i feel like i'm pest control for the entire galaxy with my bitches ten star systems away call me to kill five fucking monkeys while their own ships just fly in circles?
it's like a collage of flash games bunched together with pretty graphics, made them work together and share the character resources
fun to play with for a while, but i wouldn't pay $10 for this

So I was a big waiting for spore guy. Kept up all the latest news watched the previews a million times etc...Spore is a game that won't let me have fun. The whole point of the game is to get to the space stage and the big sandbox. However once I got there it just killed the game for me.
I want to go do things I want, like explore planets and observe less advanced species, or colonize a planet and turn it into a zoo, or search for artifacts etc... However the game won't me do any of this. Because everytime I start doing this, I get a message, our colony is under attack by pirates. So I deal with the pirates and go to work on my colonizing effort, boom another message there is a virus that is gonna wipe out all the ecosystem of this planet. When I get done that, oh lol our colony is under attack by aliens.
When the fuck does it end and let me play the game how I want? Because constantly respoding to messages and having to jump around putting out fires or bad shit is gonna happen is not fun. It's fucking tedious.

I have a legit serial via EA's download program and the game when logged in will populate your galaxy with custom creatures and such randomly selected from Sporepedia, I've further increased this a bit via a creature pack from PirateBay including about 1000 other creatures so I encounter all sorts of odd species now.
(Even seen a few humanoids and some very weird creatures.)

You could probably use that same pack to increase the amount of creatures when playing "offline" (When not logged in, unsure what else to call it.) and you can also download creatures and such manually from Sporepedia.

When using Vista you place such creations in the proper folder in the "C:\Users\USERNAME\Documents\My Spore Creations\" directory and for XP it's probably something like "C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\My Documents\My Spore Creations\"

EDIT: Entire pack rared up and uploaded, 938 creatures.

is it me or is this game fuckin boring as watching paint dry...?

seriously, you swim/walk around eating shit to make your creator grow and then the process starts all over again.

Ive tried getting into it. But fuck, its so boring its ridiculous. And the fact that you have to unlock things you can add to your creature is ridiculous. They should give you all items and let you design your own creature. Not have to unlock items to make your creature look cooler and meaner and shit.

Boring fuckin game

With all the hype this game received I was expecting something ground breaking and innovative. But this is hardly it.

Like Devi said, its a kids game. Boring as fuck

Hmm that pack just seems to include .png image files - seems unlikely that that is enough data for the creatures to be added to inside the game?

They use a part of the png format to store creature data iirc. It's all procedurally generated so a "creature" would be a tiny amount of data.

Yeah, I'm having this issue as well. According to the ingame info, your idiot colonists are supposed to automatically build their own defenses. The problem is, they never do. So basically, you have no way at all to defend your colonies. I'd love to know how this one slipped past Q&A.

You can't wage war either against any other empires because they have an endless, magical supply of ships when you try to attack one of their planets or fly around in their space. They actually run away to another part of the planet, instantly heal themselves and keep kicking your ass until your ship is destroyed. Rolling Eyes

And some of the things you can do during the space stage just screams "Wtf?". I mean, coloring a planet's atmosphere? Coloring it's water? Coloring the terrain? I'm beginning to think this is in fact a game designed for pre-schoolers with their crayons. Pretty amusing to think someone would actually find that enjoyable.

One man's garbage is another man's treasure, as the saying goes. Laughing

So far it's equal parts great and 'disappointing' but I find you can easily ignore the latter and enjoy the former. I was a little surprised at how relatively rough it was in places, with no narrative or narration for example. The graphics aren't much to shout about either - in fact the engine appears quite basic on an aesthetic level. Anyway that's just me being unnecessarily negative, it hasn't stopped me playing the game. If I had any major criticism it would relate to just how straightforward and simplistic it is. There just doesn't seem to be any real depth to the experience.

To bring up an obvious comparison (in terms of hype), I liked the abstracted personality of my creatures in Black and White. Not knowing how they functioned in finite, simplistic terms added to the magic because lets face it - underneath there wasn't a whole lot going on. But there isn't any magic or wonder with the creatures in Spore - there should be, and there could have been, but there just isn't thanks to the simplistic approach they took.

People say this is a kids game and I disagree, it's like saying the Sims is a girls game and you'll know which side of the fence you stand on that one. I personally enjoy Spore in spite of its shortcomings so don't be put off.

Do the creatures you create have unique AI patterns? So do you see any weird behaviour, weird meaning unexpected? Or are the creatures all 'locked' in a similar AI pattern?

Can your species you create ever actually "die" ? Like an end game where you actually lose?

At what point can that happen? Certainly doesn't seem possible at the cell stage. What about the land stage? Tribal?
Any point?

I guess that theoretically that can happen in the tribal and beyond if you loose your city/village/planet..

That was the most enjoyable game i've played in years... before the space age came..

ExcaliburB said it all right..

Currently I'm at war with some greedy empire...And they just spam loads of (self healing) ships on my planets. And all i got is my single spaceship + 1 allied meat shield.. What happened with all the mighty units from the civ. stage i dunno..where are my nukes that i used to obliterate my enemies Sad My planets are helpless and in ruins with almost no turrets left.. (It's pretty annoying that in order to manage your planet structure you must park the damn ship in front of them..) And just to think that i was just threatened by some 3 more unknow races.. *sigh*- it will be a hard time living this Very Happy
