But that's just it, they don't seem to complain so much about bugs and performance as the actual gameplay. For instance, this is from the CVG preview:

Quote:
This review will largely ignore the fact of the game's staggering system specs and occasional instability. These are bugs which can and will be ironed out, or facts of technology that will be moderated by our simply having better PCs in the months to come. What cannot be so easily smoothed away are the bad design decisions.

It has the potential to be significantly better, it just doesn't realise it. Half-Life 2 was so universally praised because it was an absolute distillation of the fundamental aspects of a linear shooter, and it was so highly polished you could see your face in it's arse.

By giving HL2 such high scores the gaming media is not saying it's a perfect game, just that it's the epitome of it's genre.

And I'm of the opinion that just because someone makes a Tetris game that is somehow 'perfect', polished and better than all the other Tetris games, it still shouldn't warrant 100% ratings. Originality should be a factor too, a huge one considering all the clones we're seeing in today's gaming market, and Half-Life 2 really is nothing special. Stalker is.

I do agree though, Half-Life 2 does what it sets out to do, and it does so because it sets rather unambitious goals in the first place. Stalker sets way too ambitious goals maybe, and doesn't quite get there. But at least personally I still see it as a better game than HalfLife2, even in its 'incomplete state' or whatever you wanna call it.

That's not what I'm saying, though. I'm saying a game that sets unambitious goals and accomplish them 100% isn't necessarily a better game than one that sets very ambitious goals but only succeed at a 80% rate or some such.

And I think Stalker does succeeded very well with what it's trying to do. Sure, it doesn't succeed with everything, and thus it still has a fair bit of potential left to exploit, but it still succeeds enough that it ends up being, in my eyes, a better and more interesting game than HL2( which did succeed with all its goals, to my knowledge ).

At any rate, Stalker only has shitty performance if you go for the very highest settings, and the 'lots of bugs' part is vastly exaggerated(judging by my own experiences, anyway).

And again, my main complaint with these ridiculous reviews is that they're, with their own words, *ignoring* the bugs and performance issues and still giving the game a poor rating.

You could have solved that problem like I did... Just kill 'em all!

I'm returning from the Dark Valley missions now and so far I'm loving it; and either the copy that most reviewers received did not have the same balance/feel as this one or all those hours I racked up in OL are paying off, because I don't find the combat much harder than using SoC + OL.

I had little to no problem wiping out 2/3 gangster bases in the Garbage. Playing at Stalker/Experienced difficulty.

Same, really enjoying this, so much infact that I can't find time for spore Razz
I'm glad I've preordered this as well as it's definitely one of the better fps/rpg hybrids out there. It's obvious the developers listened to their fanbase and made the game harder and more rewarding to play.

Can anyone link me to the latest translated files?

I totally agree with you Epsilon! Even finding artifacts is more rewarding now. Even the simplest artifact gives you a lot of money if you sell them. Although finding them takes longer and is more risky, you never know what you're gonna get till you're actually there and have found it. Sometimes you even have to enter hot, poisonous or irradiated areas to find artifacts. I actually found it a bit stupid that in SoC that "rare" artifacts didn't bring up that much money and they could be found in the middle of the road. CS addresses this perfectly, artifacts are found where they belong and that's in or near anomalies.

First patch for english version is out...

"Deep Silver has issued the first patch for S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Clear Sky, bringing to v1.01 the official prequel to the survival FPS game S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Shadow of Chernobyl. The patch optimizes the performance of the game by approximately 5%. In addition to that, the update improves the overall stability of the game and fixes potential load/save issues. Further, the balancing of the multiplayer mode has been changed."

sorry , man
but for me STALKER is just a buggy mess , maybe if a better studio took it over it won't
it's way far from being a properly finished game , compared to HL2 which is a linear shooter
and not open world like this one , it is shit
