Just got reminded of this by a post in the Fallout 3 thread.
I have a 'friend' who was unemployed for about 18 months, and regularly got turned down after attending job interviews during this time. He recently got a job, working in a bar.
The only way he was articulate enough to actually get the job this time was by dosing up on methamphetamine before the interview. He was only an occasional user at this point.
Now he regularly uses the drug before work using the excuse that he believes it helps him perform to his boss's expectations. It disgusts me, but he refuses to listen to any advice. I have already decided that this is a problem that he needs to face the consequences of alone, otherwise he'll never learn. He's not a good enough friend to deserve my unwavering support.
Another friend found out about it and want to inform not only his boss, but the police too. I guess I'm more interested in opinions then suggestions on a course of action. Goddamn tweaker!

Let him have fun for awhile. I´m sure the bubble will burst quite naturally.
He will not be able to afford it in the long run + he will feel pretty bad comming off it all the time.

That's the problem with drugs, you don't "come off them". They're addictive as hell and you can't just put away the shit without going through serious side-effects. When they have enough money again, they'll start just to get rid of the side effects again.
Maybe you should tell the police something, let them throw em in jail, force him into rehab and he'll maybe even thank you for it later on.

I just hope he's workin to a position where he doesn't need them. If he has to do that just to pay the bills, doesn't look good.

The bug thing is called formication. Meth makes them itchy and there brain (which is now bathing in a toxic chemical soup) thinks there are things under their skin. It is Paranoid and obsessive behavior.
The teeth thing is because there is some sugar compound that rots the teeth. It rots them into nothing, Lack of oral hygene couldn't begin to do the damage Meth does.
Even after years of being off some of them never loose that obsessive and paranoid behavior. There brain never grows back the proper brain cells (I think it is dopamine receptors) so they never truly feel happy again. I imagion it would be like banishing yourself to hell after you have been living in heaven.
I remember as a kid I would be at the bus stop and would be sitting kinda next to some homeless addict picking the skin on their rotten feet and I always wondered about their rotten teeth. How they could get that bad? They had the weirdest ankels too. I learned after the fluid and blood would pool down in their legs because the drug destroyed their circulatory system. The smell coming off them was putride.

THe third pic, the guy with a big head. LOOOOOL! Omfg! 2 months and he lost so much weight. Omfg! Is this a diet drug or something? Guys get to get the best out of it. Except for the last guy who got a clear case of puberty.

at a point like this, its up to friends to come together and intervene. people did it for me, and I wouldn't do anything less for my friends. my best friend from school has recently got mixed up with an absolute idiot and is doing certain drugs I would never expect of him. I worry about him and I will intervene, along with his brother, in the very near future if it continues.

It just sucks to do though -- I ended up not talking to a friend of mine for years and years because of the intervention. I had to goto his dealers house - which is where he was living at the time. The guy said that my buddy wasn't there but i knew he was, long story short i made a huge scene in the guys front yard and beat the shit out of him. Then his girlfriend started trying to fight me and my gf at the time jumped right in. At any rate, the entire time my buddy who i was coming there to get was just sitting in the house watching it. I couldn't even look at him after that. I just started talking with him again this year. He is clean now, has a wife and child. It's still hard for me to think of him the same way. We were best friends for 10+ years. I'm no saint either but i am a firm believer that hard drugs never need to be done on a daily basis.

talking to addicts - especially about their addiction - is problematic and often doesnt get you anywhere. So if you decide to act upon your feelings, be aware that it might amount to nothing.

This is so true I think. I will go even further and say sometimes you have to leave them be. Addicts can pull you down if you help them too much. They lose their place and you let them stay with you and the next thing you know your place is empty and your stuff is at the pawn shop.

Yeah it's just frustrating. Considering our friendship is already tenuous I don't have the patience to persevere with it.
I'm actually hoping he gets caught out now because it's the only way he'll realise the seriousness of the situation.

hitting rock-bottom - as they say - is something addicts have to go through before going out of rationalisations for their behaviour. Few will stop by friendly interventions in their social network, but more will drop out of their circle of friends and focus more on the drugs till they have fucked up so bad, that they cant stand themselves anymore. Even then they usually go through numerous rehabs before becoming really clean.

exactly. Or they need support of people they respect and listen to
Meth is for sure one of the worst drugs you can get mixed up in.
I dont understand why people like meth. Ive done it before, ive done quite alot it on a few occasions and really, it makes you jacked to point where you cant speak properly and it makes you jones for more and more and more. Like coke, but 10X as worse you know?
I guess Im perspective on drugs has changed since I stopped doing them. Like for instance, ive been spending alot of time with 2 of my friends who are getting bad with crack. And Im not going to give up on them. They do it because they are afraid to face reality and staying constanly fucked is an escape.
I dont believe in doing any drug to escape. Doing certain drugs (like weed or hash or shrooms) is different as they allow you to open your mind to other possibilities you know?
Not that I condone that tho but I understand it.
I mean, ive never felt better in my life since i stopped doing all drugs. My head is clear, my emotions are stable. Its done wonders for me and I know it would do the same to my friends. Thats why Ive been spending alot of time with them trying to help them. And i think im getting through to 2 of them. We shall see tho
