I need some help, I installed the russian version of the game but I forgot to uncheck the "Start game" checkbox at the end and it gave me the "needs to install driver" message, I closed it and replaced the protect.dll file with the older one but now it still gives me the install driver message. Should I install that starforce crap? Will it work after? Thanks

As mentioned a few times Daemon Tools/Alcohol 120% or perhaps the underlying SPTD drivers causes a bug with this version of Star-Force if you try to check the disc with it.
Make sure to uncheck RMPS emulation from Daemon Tools/Alcohol, it's not needed and to be safe don't verify the disc without using the cracked protect.dll file.
This needs to be repeated every third day as Star-Force will allow you to paly without the disc for that amount of time after a successful verification.

I'm rebuilding the whole setup design again with Installshield 12. Testing it, so far so good. Btw, thanks a bunch JBeckman for that link with translated files. Well, it's not idealy translated but it will be very useful. No help for the russian voices. I'm standing in front of a guy...'God knows who he is' and I can't understand the man!
Edit: btw, I can't figure out how to use spoiler tages. Sorry for my ignorance! I'm trying! | Well, that makes a little more sense.
If you look closely at the installer from Clear Sky RUS ( and Shadow of Chernobyl, too ) you will immediately realize that it doesn't use this kind of layout, plus the last screen always has a launch game option.
Besides, the images on those shots are really low quality.
But, if I may ask, why are you bothering with converting/translating the installer?

So...what is the story about in this one? Could someone give a general idea without giving out too much spoilers?
I loved the first one but I just can't see how the story in the second one can be interesting...its a prequel.

Spoiler: | Clear Sky is an organization looking to study and understand what's what inside the Zone, but not in scientific sense, but more like hippie-treehugging way (and also firing lots of guns, which is quite contraversal, considering at the start they claim their numbers are small and resources are low, but later in the game they show up as small army of power-armor totting commandoes). You are mercenary who gets into jam and ends up with a choice of either helping Clear Sky or gtfo and dying horribly. Story develops a link with events that lead to original Stalker begining, namely finding out what's Strelok is up to, but eventually gets more and more confusing and ends up as complete (and rather unsatysfying) nonsense. |

Best fucking description ever! It almost makes me want to buy it, it's 15US bucks in Russia, if it was the same price here it would have been a done deal.

I had the same issue, easy to fix though.
Copy XREngine.exe from the /Bin directory in the game folder and paste it as a shortcut in the folder where you installed the game. (Or wherever you want it.)
Edit the shortcut and change the "Start in" field to look like this.
"\ClearSky\" instead of "\ClearSky\Bin"
(That is, point it to the folder where fsGame.ltx is located.)
EDIT: Oh yeah, System.ltx is located in one of those archives and fsGame.ltx points to the locations of those archives plus the folder where the player profile should be created.
(Location of various things like the savegames, logfiles and config file User.ltx)

September 5th (Friday.) but some stores will probably sell it earlier so there's a chance of it being released (And perhaps even uploaded to the net.) before that date.
GSC has however confirmed that they are aiming to release patch #2 at that date and due to the expected size of the patch and how the X-Ray engine works you most likely need to restart in order to play with the patch applied.
(That is, you can't load a savegame from a earlier version, depends on what files they change but there are a few files that need a fresh start in order to work correctly and some files like the *.spawn files require a new game or it'll just crash if trying to use it with a older save.)
Running around the Garbage level currently, was even robbed by a bunch of bandits there whom I killed immediately afterwards but I didn't get my money back.
(You are always struggling with money as everything costs a lot from basic supplies to ammo and weapons or armor or upgrades and you don't really find much unless you uncover stashes and you generally need to buy locations to those as well from other Stalkers.)
