Wow, you actually agreed with me. So we're cool now then? 
As for the rest, exactly! The PS3 has got a monsterously powerful CPU at its heart, but the paired GPU just isn't suitable for a "next gen" console. The RSX is based loosely off the 7800GTX .. a stunning card back in its day, but now? I wouldn't use it in a emulation machine, let alone a gaming one. The PS2 was the same.. though it had some amazing graphics for a lot of games, it lacked the hardware to pull off capable ports from OTHER consoles (like, as you said, RE4)
Just before the PS3-lovers leap down my throat; I'm *not* bashing on the PS3! I've already said, many times, that when the PS3 is hacked and the price drops - I'll get one. Right now I see it as nothing more than a glorified 3DO. Great machine, no games, stupid price-tag.

And x1800xt is supposed to be a good card by todays standards? Oh please 
I don't get why you bring ps2 into this, the reason 3rd party games looked worse on it was simply because it was much weaker than the other consoles. This isn't the case this gen. Like many devs have said many times over and over again, the xbox 360 and ps3 are pretty much equal in power, ps3 is just harder to develop for.
With a quick google search I found an interview with silicon knights, I think this sums it up:
"In an interview with Game Daily,Dyack, who is president of Silicon Knights, said the 360 and the PS3 were are equal in power.
While the PS3 had more processing power, the 360 had more available memory, he said. There is potentially more power in the PS3 but it was harder for developers to tap and might as well not be there."
Some of the first party games show off what the system is really capable of

X1900XTX-derivative, actually. It's an ENHANCED R500, using specific technologies from the R600 range. If you're going to moan about my info, at least do some research first. I don't care what you say, so you can whine at me all you want, I didn't say the PS3 was less powerful -- I said the GPU is. That's a technical FACT.

No it isn't, go to bjorn3d for example and ask the tech peeps what the gpu is equal to and you'll see what they'll say.
Even if you were to be right, which I know you're not, that card still is outdated today.

As for being "outdated today" - yes, that's partially true (not completely, as you've no doubt seen games like ME and FC2 running smoothly on that card) it's STILL considerably more powerful than the G70-based RSX.

I remember reading a long discussion with a bunch of tech geeks, they agreed the card was equal to 1800xt, I think it was. It was something with x1800 and definitely not x1900.
If I can find it, I'll post it but as I said you could post and ask at bjorn3d, they should know this stuff. And the games you posted are console games, which means, it means nothing.

A console can never be compared one on one with a PC, in most cases two consoles can't even be compared. So this discussion is useless.

FC2 and ME are identical on both the PC and the X360. >_> The X1800 simply would NOT have the power to run those games looking as good as they do, regardless of "optimisation"

Well, guys it absolutely makes no sense wrangling over this xbox 360 vs ps3 issue. TFU, in particular, looks way better on Xbox360 (check out the link I've attached) but it does NOT mean that xbox360 would be superior, what it means is that some games look better on xbox and some on PS3. You cannot say that every game that has ever been released for xbox360 look better than on PS3 because there're always exceptions! Exceptions that prove the rule haha just kidding. Seriously, both system are worth the money, though xbox360 has an undisputed advantage over PS3... we all know what I'm talking about... By the way, just to get things clear, xbox360 has a cpu that is called Xenos and it is based on ATi R500 but it is not equal to a x1900xtx (yes you x1900xtx) it has better performance, but if you ask me comparing consoles to a PCs is senseless!

PS.: TFU on PS3: brighter, has more blur in order to hide graphically weaker parts of the game lol... (these features apply to almost every game on PS3)
xbox360: darker, has more vibrant colours and better textures
If you prefer brighter screen with more blur on, then pick the ps3 vesion, if you want more vibrant colours, less blur, slightly better textures then go for the 360

Very interesting post, thanks for the read! To be honest, I only have a 360 and as such will only be able to get The Force Unleashed for that console though to be honest, it sounds like it's going to be so damn good I probably wouldn't care which console I played it on! Here's to the leak!

a thing most people never fail to miss is that the nvidia GPU actually has more raw horsepower than the Xenos GPU. The difference here, and maybe its down to the Xenos's unified shader architecture it just handles everything more efficiently. Another thing is that in a perfect world the CELL is very well suited to being a game CPU. The way the SPE's function theyre tailor made for gaming. Being able to run separate threads for physics, AI and even some graphical rendering stuff. The problem is. And as is often correctly stated, its just so freakin hard to acheive this because its a total pain in the arse to program. The sad thing is we'll probabaly see the best the PS3 can do much later in its life cycle (god of war on ps2 anyone?) when the development tools mature and the bank of code snippets, and optomisation know hows surf their way around the development community.
To flat out deny the power is there is quite absurd. Now in terms of what each platform has going for it as we stand today the 360 is the out and out winner, great game library, its graphics are reasonably good (currently especially in terms of texture clarity it edges out the PS3) But i cant help think to myself that the PS3 has a little more of a life cycle in it than the 360. When MS bring the next one out, which is slated towards the end of this decade i cant help but think if history will repeat and millions of poeple will be left in the cold like those of us who saw development of games for our beloved xbox grind to a halt virtually overnight.
