entirely dependant on use
if it's over a local network, or you only need to use gui apps like notepad etc, use windows' remote desktop
if you have anything with graphics and you're not on a local network, windows rdp would transfer that uncompressed, and will result in a very slow screen update, so in that case i would recommend tightvnc
if it's a corporate network and you're doing tech support and need more remote administration features, get dameware

Didn't MS say that using the new RDP that comes with Vista will allow to retain the Glass effects and be really fast, because it will only transfer the windows' content instead of the entire desktop (sort of like Linux)? This is what I remember reading long time ago.

yes, RDP is very fast when displaying plain gui apps
but it still transfers all and any pictures uncompressed, so using it over internet to, say, play starcraft or go through your photo album or something would be impossible - where tightvnc would still be quite laggy, but possible
dameware should only be used if you want a lot of extra features
oh, and RDP is the only one that locks the desktop so local users can't see what's going on
haven't looked into logmein, though

Latest Dameware v6.8.x is excellent.
Regrettably, no remote control app is without issue when it comes to remoting to a PC from another far off location (ie. trying to connect your Vista machine remotely to help your Dad's WinXP in another province/state/whatever). Thats the ultimate way of troubleshooting a PC as long as the remote OS still works. Noone has as of yet made a remote control app that controls a PC **OUTSIDE THE OS** so if the OS is dead then you can Lan WakeUp the PC and troubleshoot it without the need for an OS. Likely never to be possible due to massive security issues/exploits.
Anyway, remoting to a far off PC requires some treaks on the remote PC (ie. opening up ports in their OS firewall to accept incoming remote sessions for the remote software [ie. Dameware uses Port 6129], forwarding that same port in their Router [if they have a Router], and more times than not you need to create an admin account on the remote PC to then use that to gain access).
