Order is just as insane as destruction, but for the 'good'. They're zealots or whatever... good vs bad is sort of a deep rooted human thing and it helps people identify...

I think the trailer is spot on.

The forced alliance of "good" and "evil" races doesn't quite work for me. The beauty of Warhammer has always been the fact that there really is no black & white. Dwarfs are bitter grudge holders, Elves arrogant bastards that consider every other race inferior, Empire is bunch of corrupt weaklings etc.

Is this actually reflected in the game in any way? For example, even in a forced alliance I'd picture dwarfs reacting quite badly to a snotty high-elf that comes demanding for a quest from them. So has the inherit racism of Warhammer lore been totally forgotten?

I played the game for a good 5 or 6 hours. I had oral surgery yesterday so I can't play as much as I would like and the pain takes some of the fun out of it from the get-go.

I first rolled up a goblin character. When i logged in, I thought, "This looks like World Of Warcraft". And, it did.
Quests are bountiful and worth doing. I stumbled into a Public Quest pretty quickly and let me tell you, they are really really fun. The one I was in was a timed event and we had to kil off invading forces. Then their captain spawned in (A hero) and we had to kill him like a boss encounter. Each kill you score or help in gives you influence depending on how much damage you do. At the end of the public quest, when all objectives are met, you roll for loot. You pull up a scoreboard and it shows everyone's rolls. The influence you recieve adds bonuses to your roll. The top 3 people (I think it was the top 3) get the loot. Really Really cool.
So, I goofed around with my goblin till i hit level 5.

I then rolled a marauder. I was taken aback by how different the starting area for the marauder looked. It didn't look like WOW much. I was enjoying myself with the marauder and got to level 3. My mouth started hurting so i got off to come and write up something.

I haven't gotten into any RVR. But the quests are fun and the public quests are a blast. I really want to play more and wish I didn't feel so shitty.

The game was really smooth for me. I didn't encounter any crashes (windows vista 64) and I didn't lag at all the entire time I was playing. The only annoying thing i found was the goblin i played could summon these squig pets. The control for them didn't seem that great. They wouldn't attack lots of times when i told them to, and when set to aggressive, they would stand there lots of times not doing anything. That caused me to utter a few curses here and there. nothing that can't be fixed though. Seems more polished that AOC to me thus far.

Also, you can customize the UI. It has some kind of built in layout editor but i didn't mess with it.

All inall, I am pretty pleased with what little i have seen so far. I will be keeping my pre-order of the collector's edition unless something changes my mind after i get some more play time in.

Is it the greatest MMO ever in the history of the world? No. But, it has me wanting to play it more than I found myself wanting to play AOC (much more in fact).

Will it be a WOW killer? Probly not. But, I think it certainly could put a dent into it especially i the PVP is even half as enjoyable as the public quests are. The PVP will be the bread and butter of this game. If people like PVP more than PVE, then i think those people will gravitate to Warhammer. Thats my gut feeling anyway.

I will write more later as I get more time in.

Really nice mini-review Big_Gun. Smile

And i read about the UI, it would seems u won't need 40+ addons like in WoW to customize ur interface

Nope having been in a guild battle but when you enter the world RvR area you can join groups already fighting and completing objectives (like killing Lords or taking over keeps). Quests are similar to PVE except you kill players etc. There are also numerous spots around the battlefield where you can build and USE sieging equipment.

What I find the best during the fights tho is the combination of the classes and how they can work together. Also some kind of collision system is in effect for PVP so you dont walk through other players. Combat feels really good after the recent update right before they lifted NDA.

First you buy the material (its 1 item at vendor) then you go to the spot (for example in front of the gates) and build it which takes about 20 seconds. Then you can enter the equipment and shoot with it FPS style Smile Its usually catapults or ballistas with splash damage so you aim it at the ground but it can be useful.

Oh another note. The Guild System.

The friggin built in guild stuff is KICK FUCKIN ASS.

They even have a built in calendar where you can plan guild events... a calendar that is on youre guild UI that you can click on to see the time for anything planned for certain days. Fucking cool cool cool. It really seems like they hit PVP and Guild Type stuff square on the head folks.

They were also right about the Tome of Knowledge. That is one sweet ass setup.

I am going to be jumping in here soon. I am sure I will have more to post about later.
I forgot the above in my first post. . . must have been the drugs.

I did a couple of the public quests and they are really nice. The party set up is cool also, you hit the party button and you can jump into any team you want if they are in an area where you need to get something done (RVR, PQ, PVE questing). The Scenarios are awesome to. You queue up anywhere and boom, you are instantly in an RVR battleground. The maps are small and to the point. The objectives are easy and fun for most of the players that I have talked to. More to come....

I might as well add a little stuff too, been in the closed EU beta since the start of the guild-phase.

Most of what Big_Gun has said is exactly the same way I feel, ie the PQ's are great, the roll-system (bonus to your roll depending on how much dmg/healing you did), guild system etc.

The closed EU beta is using templates now so you start out as level 31 so i thought id talk a bit about what i think of the little bit of "endgame" i've seen.

You start out at level 31 and you get a bunch of realmpoints, meaning you get to check out the different masteries and renown specializations. If you've played DAOC you will feel right at home, the renown-bonuses are basically copy-pasted.

I've done a couple of dungeons which from what i understood were geared for level 40 characters but we had no issues clearing them with a 35-37 party. Overall they seem very unfinished, they're populated and they look very nice but they arent properly itemized yet (hopefully they will be before release) and there's a few faulty triggers (ie you enter a big bad room with a big bad boss but you cant attack him even though you've cleared everything out). I do like that compared to WOW the general pack of mobs you pull are bigger in numbers but a bit weaker instead of fewer strong ones. I think from what I've seen it's clear that they arent emphasizing on PVE that much, it's there but it's not the main focus and for me that's damn fine.

The RVR I've done has been great, really great, everything from keep sieges, fighting for battleground objectives or normal scenarios all play out very well. It's very different from WOW's pvp in many ways and it certainly wont be for everybody but it really favors tactics, teamplay and knowledge of the place you're fighting at.

I've tried all of the classes for a little bit but focused mainly on looking through the healers since that's what i will be playing in retail and it seems very well balanced.

The Archmage and Shaman are quite similar in playstyle with a wide array of both offensive abilities and healing spells, the way they work is that if you cast a offensive spell your next defensive spell gets a small buff, stacking five times and vice versa.

The Zealot and Runepriest are sort of similar in the way that they have the most diverse arsenal of healing spells and that they give "expendable" buffs. The Zealot gives marks and the Runepriest gives runes, these buffs by themselves provide stat enhancement but you can also unleash them as damage, removing the buff in the process. From what i've played these classes seem to be the most "pure" healers in the sense that they have the widest choice of healing methods and that they do the least effective damage. The Runepriest has alot of offensive debuffs while the Zealot works (with the correct Tactics and Masteries chosen) sort of like a Shadowpriest from WOW, leeching life from your offensive target to your defensive.

And lastly we have the healer/melee-hybrids, Warrior Priest for Order and Disciple of Khaine for Destruction. They are extremely similar, they both have pulsing buffs that centers on them and buffs all partymembers within a certain range, they both do frankly surprisingly good damage and decent healing. These classes will without a doubt be one of the hardest to play well because you need to do constant damage to be able to heal, if you stand back and just cast healingspells you will be out of their special "mana" within ten seconds and the only efficient way to get it up is to use your offensive melee abilities.

Personally i will most likely be playing the Zealot Smile

All right here are some screens from some fighting over the keep Wilhelms Fist in the Reikland area.

The entry screen.

This is the open party view, an easy way to get into group action straight away.

Buffing up a bit.

Some fighting screens.

A little bit of healing and dying.

Accepting a quest.

Thats the auto-respawn time, when that time has gone you auto-release, but if you click the respawn-button it's just 5 sec Smile

And yeah RP = Renown Points. Its quite nice as a healer, you get RP's for healing damage that an enemy player has done to your realm-mate. Plus the divided RPs you get for your groups kills.

Hehe i know where you're coming from Phluxed. I'm coming from Priest and Druid for 3 years in DAOC then went to two years of Priest in WOW, ended it with a year of Warrior though.

So i thought to myself that fuck this, im gonna go with a pure no-care-in-the-world damagedealer in warhammer but of course my old mates were like "aw pweease play a healer, you know how to do it damnit" and since i cant handle peer pressure i said all right. So im really pleasantly surprised with the healer-classes, there really is a LOT more than just pure healing for the support-classes in this game.

Sure the main thing will be healing but what will differ the skilled from the casual healer is how well you weave in your offensive abilities with your healing.

In the nearest warcamp with full health. Warcamps are quest/merchant-hubs that are spread out in the different areas. I find it a good system, either you wait for a player to resurrect you or you respawn at the warcamp and run back Smile

Im still scratching my head over people that said this game was laggy. . . Age Of Conan ran like SHIT in the beta. . . this game is flawless for me so far. Not one single crash. Not one single time of not being able to login. i think this game, based on this beta, is going to have one of the most flawless launches ever (knock on wood).

I am really liking this game much more than I thought I would. Glad I got the collector's edition now. I don't think it ill appeal to EVERYONE (what game does?) but i really think it is fun.

If anyone liked WOW even a little. . . I would definitely recommend this game. Take WOW and add some nifty new ideas you've never seen in an MMO before, really cool PVP (much more than WOW will ever offer I would say), incredible kick ass guild support, and you have this game.

I'll also add, the lore and stuff is already MUCH deeper than WOW's. If you're into that sort of thing. Of course, it being Warhammer, they have TONS of lore to draw from. No wonder Blizzard wanted this name for Warcraft. . . the works already done lore wise. And, it is great story to boot.
