It's a lot of fun though too, especially in singleplayer (which is rare these days). Definitely give it a shot if you've got the patience.

why in singleplayer, playing against real people is a lot more fun/real...
I rarely ever play against AI with GTR2....

GTR evolution out now. it give the choose to install it online or offline. one just need to install it into offline mode (securom protected) and in multiplayer ever will work with the pirated version cause is need to get steam installed

I'm a bit mixed up with theses games, judging from SimBin site, this is the order they got/will be released:
GTR > GT Legend > GTR2 > Race > exp > Race 07 > exp > GTR Evo > STCC
As the site say, you can grab GTR Evo and STCC as simple exp pack for Race 07, so is this a major upgrade or simply new tracks/cars?
And why it this thread under GTR2? Shouldn't it have it's own thread, or be in the Race 07 thread if it's a simple exp?

@ Dunge
games are 5 with 2 expansions for race and race 07. the right order is
GTR > GT Legend > GTR2 > Race > exp Catheram > Race 07 > exp GTR Evo
GTR evo content Race 07 and new tracks and cars
GT Legend ever cracked then with sf and race with his expansion catheram also only with steam download

Judging from the website, Race07 exp was called Crowne Plaza.
Anyway, I just wanted to know if GTR Evo had an upgraded engine (gfx/handling) or it's really only just Race07 with another name, as it seems to be.

You can delete all the files from steam directory and do offline installation if you want to burn this to dvd5.

@ sniperfin
exactly steam files are for the multiplayer and are useless cause the multiplayer then ever will be working for this game if not for purchase (u have to install the client to install game online ecc ecc). the only chose is to install it in offline mode

GTR 2, what a great simulation: excellent physics, great immersion, tons of mods and...wait, damn, graphics aren't so impressive now. So what could I do?
Here I'll show some basic passes to make your GTR2 "vanilla" look (nearly) like a 2009 game:
1) We need HD Textures nowadays, so here you are: HD Textures for all Tracks ;
The right path for the files is "...SimBin\GTR2\GameData\Locations", overwrite old files;
2) Ok, but we still need some of them: HD Sky Textures;
Copy them to "...SimBin\GTR2\GameData\Locations\shared" overwriting old files;
3) It's quite better now, but we need some good textures for the poor driver: HD textures for gloves and arms;
Place them into "...SimBin\GTR2\GameData\Teams";
4) When I spin-off or have some rally into the gravel I want more dust and particles: More dust & smoke;
Place them into "...SimBin\GTR2\GameData\Teams";
5) We need some shiny cars now, here some nice environmental mapping: New Emap for cars;
Place them into "...SimBin\GTR2\GameData\Teams";
6) And finally, some nextgen bloom ENB effects (I mean soft bloom, not NFS Undercover's bloom), plus a new display plugin with advanced car stats: ENBeffects+Motec;
Copy them into the GTR2 main folder "...SimBin\GTR2". I have tuned down these effects in order to have a realistic feeling, but you can modify them editing the .ini file;
Ok, I hope you enjoy it!! Here some nice screens:

...and don't forget important gameplay mods like the fix for dynamic weather. Nothing like heading into a race with unpredictable weather conditions.

GTR2 is a classic for me.With huge mods,incredible physics,this game is the best racing sim.Hmmm..along with Nascar Racing 2003 Season of course.
Btw,anyone knows if there is a way to enable quad core support in gtr2?I remember a program SetAffinity i think but it doesn't work on 32-bit.

32-bit.Doesn't work for me.Only one core works.Manual method as ixigia posted works fine with 4 cores doing the job.But have to alt-tab everytime.

Power and Glory it's now on v.2.1 and it's a great mod.
I'm playing now with all the high-res textures and graphics are top notch even 3 years later.

one thing though, you need a copy of GT Legends to install P&G, since the mod is using models of that game...

the p&g cars are the hardest to drive since these old cars have not much grip or downforce....then again they are the most fun to drive since you can powerslide them quite easy...
the default gt cars are also not that easy cause they have high power so you have to be careful on the throttle....
I think the wtcc cars should be the easiest to drive for you...
