You are delusional, I live in EU (Lithuania) and DoW was never huge here, basically it is unknown game compared to SC (which is the best rts in many gamers hearts). I don't know why brainwashed DoW fanboys would think their game is more popular than SC in Europe.

I live in Europe and as a matter of fact yes there were many surveys in my country and SC was constantly winning best RTS (as voted by readers) in various mags and websites. So I WOULD KNOW.

SC and DoW are quite different kinds of games in the end, and won't appeal to the same target group.
I wouldn't actually mind if they didn't have Tyranid campaign at all. An enemy that you don't know is much more intimidating - can you imagine Space Hulk being the same game if you could play the game as Genestealer as well? -_-

Well i have played DoW and SC online, almost at the same time. And the community and baseplayers were far larger in SC then DoW. Besides that, SC have huge community and tourneys here in Europe, where as far as i know, DoW has none big ones(maybe one in germany a year ago ?)

How could anyone make a comparison with DoW & Starcraft? Of course SC has a better online experience it has Blizzards determination and a devoted fanbase. DoW has the same potential as SC but unfortunately lack in the above due to both Relic and a relative small fanbase.

but how can you be so sure DOW2 is better than SC2? they're both not out, you also can't really compare SC1 and DOW1 because SC1 came out in 1998 and DOW1 in what, 2006?

Well if we need to discuss quality then I also agree, that relic delivers alot better than blizzard. Still they 10 years from one another, hard to compare those two with a genre which has changed so much.

Actually, I think W3 was very good on quality, for its time. But SC is too old, too outdated and just not that good. The reason it got popular was because of the typical 90s European Blizzard fanbois. The reason it is popular now, is because old time fanbois refuse to get their heads out of their asses and find better games. [Other examples of 90s fanboism are Quake 3 and Fallout]
Mark my words, even if SC2 is the very same game, only, say, with upgraded graphics and nothing more, blind dinosaur fanbois will moan how it is so bad (the same happened with Quake 4, for example).

Sure, CS is also an appropriate example, but CS popularity has lowered with the years, and typically, only kids play it regularly, while SC, Q3 and the likes are popular mainly with older, more uptight user base.

the reason it is popular now is because of the massive east asian following of the game. SC and WC3 are huge in both south korea and china. To a point where it is played in the WCG tournaments and broadcasted on TV as a sport.
DoW is very different than SC or WC3, I personally live SC the best, then DoW, and WC3 the least. it's a matter of taste, not quality because these games all have their own special thing that they do very well, so they can't be compared easily.

SC2 is a re-burp with new and glitzy grfx, just like Diablo 3.
NONE of those two have anything new gameplay wise, closer to the truth is that SC2 is going to be worse micro-management wise and D3 is lacking in class advancement. Oh, sorry, forgetting the nifty destructable walls in D3... *cough*
Can't blame them though, probarly going to sell like crazy, but dang, I miss the innovation..

Blizzard have never really been innovators, they've always been taking tried ideas and genres and perfected them. None of their games are really groundbreaking but they always have everything you would expect plus a lot of small extras and they have finely tuned balance and replay value.

Relic will have a better looking game, but Blizzard will walk all over them competition/balance-wise. I mean, just look at Company of Heroes. Beautiful game to look at, fun to play, and impossible to compete in due to the sheer amount of abuse possible

Company of Heroes wasn't all that good. But I think Relic did an amazing job balancing the NINE FUCKING RACES in the DoW game (plus expansions).

regarding sc2 and d3, i don't want nor expect blizzard to "revolutionize" the genre(s). Heck, give me a revamped d2 or sc, and i'll be happy, anything more is a welcome, but not necessary, plus. Obviously i welcome the new story lines.

Campany of Heroes....NINE???........RACES??....you sure you know what game we are talking about here?..
No 9 anything in that game..... there is 4(british, wehrmacht, US and Panzer Elite)
And there surtainly aint RACES in that game either. Unless you consider either of the 3 countries in that game as races rather than armies!
