I'm hoping that there's lots of freedom in this game.
I like exploration..
While Crysis looks like you have lots of freedom, the overall game is still very linear and other than choosing from where to attack certain camps, or if to attack them at all is really the only choice you have.
In the end you'll still go from point A to point B and from there to point C until you get to the end of the game.

Yep. Crysis was still a rails shooter. Albeit, not a very obvious one.
The game should be like STALKER, though I don't think there are any menu's and the like. For me the game would have benefited from an inventory system (and maybe some skills).

I don't want stupid zone-loading every fucking 10 minutes, it completely ruins the freedom feeling. Plus, STALKER had invisible (and visible) walls all around.
This one has no loading zones from what I've gathered (except one of course when you load the game, like GTA IV). I doubt Ubisoft would do to Far Cry 2, what insert-dev-name did to STALKER. |
Are you an idiot or something? I already mentioned what aspects of STALKER the game should integrate. Learn to read before posting.

News from Swedish pc gamer is that 1 week before release there will be a benchmark program out to test you're pc for the game.

Is this going to be something you can personally assess (like a tech demo) or just a hardware analysis which rates your components individually?

Why are you calling me an idiot? I never said you said anything about zone-loading, I simply said I didn't want that, I did read your fucking post. Take your own damn advice and don't insult me. And even if I did missunderstand your post, I still don't see why you should call me an idiot. Fucking jerk.
Only an idiot would point out that he wouldn't want loading areas when it's already known that it wouldn't be in.
Yey, I found yet another gun, now I have to throw out on of my other similar guns but oh right, first I have to compare which one has the best durability, oh come on, ANNOYING.
At least it's not as idiotic as lugging around all sorts of weapons.
Plus it would allow you to sell guns to buy other stuff.

I'm just hoping the stealth will be manageable. As in you can sneak into a camp, plant explosives, sneak out, then KABOOM!
The stealth in Farcry was pathetic, and it wasn't much better in Crysis considering it was completely reliant on the cloaking suit.

On the FC2 trailers it seems that they have improved that part, have a look at the one where soldiers are helping the wounded and take a quick cover while trying to locate you, at least the enemy AI feign here to not be completely omniscient.

Regarding the controversy about the inventory system in STALKER. This frustrating system has the benefit of imbuing your items with a paradoxical sense of worth and worthlessness - a feeling which is both conflicting and addictive. You wanna catch 'em all, but you can't! If you could catch them all then the valuation of these items decreases somewhat as you accrue more and more useless shit. The feeling of wanting but not being able to have can be accredited to an inventory system. Having to balance what you can carry with what you want/need to carry.
I think there is an argument to be made for inventory systems, but I don't think I like them.

What about animals?
Will there be crocs in the water, snakes in the grass, etc, that actually affect gameplay?

Unfortunately not, no. There are animals .. but only grazing herbivores. The devs wanted to put in other animals too, like lions and shit, but they said because of the way the AI works -- the lions would hunt the other animals and kill them all. They said it wasn't possible to have it both ways, so they limited it to just grazing animals.
I can't find the exact article that said it, but it's also on the Wiki
Quote: |
All the large animals in the game will be grazing herbivores only, such as zebras, wildebeest, gazelle, buffalo, impala, Gemsbok and the like. The reason for this was said by one of the makers "The problem was, if we wanted to put predators into that ecosystem we would have to balance it to make sure the lions didn't eat all the gazelles and then all starve to death."

Aye. Rather than just "using" a medkit (press H to heal, now) I love the idea of having a more interactive approach.

Yeah but I was kinda surprised to see it in the trailer 'cause I thought in one of these GameSpot E308 stage demo presentations they said they scrapped that part. But maybe I'm mistaking it with something else.
Anyway, it looks really cool indeed and I def hope they'll leave it in!
