'Football Superstars is the world's first Virtual Football World. An entire online virtual world designed by football fans exclusively for football fans, where you can enjoy a massively multiplayer experience on your PC'
As a football and MMO fan I really like the concept of this game, I don't think anything similar been tried in the past. I'm assuming the avatars team would be the equivalent of a clan or guild in MMORPG's, as you play in a virtual football team. A new and exciting twist on MMO, I'll certainly be giving it a look over.

Hmm this is very interesting.. Signed me up for the closed beta. Thanks for showing us that the gameworld can be different than all the FPS and Managers.

Playing outside is no more what it was, Sin317, at least in Metropolis-style cities, like Athens.
My father was able to play soccer and other games outside as much as he wanted, in a period where the cars were only a luxury to the few those that could afford them, and there were whole unoccupied fields and large parks for children to enjoy.
When I was growing up, I was still able to play soccer in my street's road, however we were playing amongst parked cars on both sides of the street, afraid not to hit any of them and with the constant whining of the neighbours that either we were making too much noise, or that we were destroying their cars. Hell, they even got us (when we were still a bunch of 10-12 year olds playing soccer in the street) the police to make us stop.
Today, no child plays soccer on the street anymore, unless it's a pedestrian only zone, and still, "those little devils" get cursed upon if their ball ends up on a pedestrian's feet, or even worse, hands. A few days ago, I was going to fetch my car, which was parked up parallel against the sidewalk, not on it though. I saw 5 children playing soccer in what was a part of the sidewalk, maybe 20 meters long and 3 meters wide. I was holding my head in my hands. They seemed to enjoy it, but come on, that's all they get? That small space that I could walk through in 4 seconds is all they get to play soccer in if they don't have the money to rent a small 5vs5 field? My car was parked on the space of the road that was parallel to the small space they were playing soccer on, and it even received a pass on the right side of it. I didn't even fucking bother to look if they had damaged the car in any way. I couldn't care less about the car. Those kids were using the only space they had to play on the street, an experience I look back on fondly. And that's what it comes down to for them. They could break my fucking window for all I care, as long as they have fun.
Some of them will take the long walk and find some park that will probably be occupied by some other kids playing soccer, others will pay the rent for a small field for a night every two weeks and play there, others will just stay at home and play PES, or FIFA, or Football Superstars, or New Star Soccer, or whatever. Whatever they choose to do, I know that current and future generations will have missed the "playing outside".
And I know this because less families every year decide to raise their children outside big cities, obviously because "they'll lack the chances other children get". Imagine the irony. Children in small villages still enjoy what my father enjoyed in the big city (that wasn't a big city yet back then), yet they're brought to big cities for school and stuff, and end up missing out on a whole fucking awesome experience. Because even an MMO soccer game can't substitute getting to know all the kids in the neighborhood, being friends with them and playing 6vs6 soccer every fucking afternoon in the street, and hang around till late night chatting about whatever.
I'm glad I got a taste of that. And I'm only sad for what it has become today.

It's not a mutually exclusive affair so I don't see why you'd say that

No they dont your right, but thats not because they are grown up men, its because they still want to compete with something, when in fairness they compete at nothing, its not them on the grass kicking the leather about for money, they just seem to think they are "theyre" team. Fortunatley there is enough idiotic interest to keep the "sport" and i say that lightly alive. I find most of the football kind of folks very aggressive, full of "so and so's better than whatever" types. Kinda neanderthal, I can think of better things to do than watch a load of men with over excitable testosterone levels spitting on the floor and faking injuries etc. And rubbing theyre ball sacks.
If you watch some 1960's football matches its bareable, but today im afraid sponsor ship/large compony involvements of today, seemed to me of made it a big fucking circus act of dickheads. For the most part.
Of course each to theyre own etc, but at same time I avoid people face to face that are into that shit like the plague outside the internet. Unfortunatley that seems to be a very high percentage, but shit we all knew the % of follow my leader type assholes were high in the world

What I fail to understand is how someone who doesn't like football, and clearly has no conception of just how technically proficient you need to be in order to play it at a competitive level, somehow found their way into a thread named FOOTBALL SUPERSTARS
As with most things in life, not everyone agrees or sees eye to eye. Subjectivity is a very real and potent force in that respect. I've been in a similar position regarding American Football and Oval Racing and had videogames completely shift my perspective (Madden and NR2003), showing me a more nuanced sport than my fostered (and tainted) preconceptions had led me to believe.
Of course... there are many in the UK who don't like football, hate it with a passion in fact. It's just one of those things I guess, and I don't want to even try and understand why it is!

Bwahahaha, I would love to class all football lovers as thugs but alas I couldnt back that up. But still none the less, his avatar looks like a shaven mod from the 80's so maybe hes a bit of a bully.
