I'll just phone them.. lol

It will say its out of warrenty anyway but will still let you go through the process , and when you select rrod as the problem it should state the price as £0.

I wouldn't rule a repair or replacement out, my release 360 had drive read errors constantly and rrod once and was out of warranty and they replaced it for free"new system sent to me with an extended warranty and now a year later it has rrod and drive errors and is under warranty 3yr and is on its way back to Microsoft as we speak...

just send it back flashed, they don't test drive with a 360 backup, and loads of people i know have done it, some even get it back still flashed but normally the drive is replaced anyway

Well I just called MS right now and setup a repair. Before they hung up the guy said MS does check for tampering. If MS finds any tampering on the console, it will get sent back to me unrepaired. But if theres no tampering, they will send me back a working console along with a free 1-month xbox live gold membership.

I just realized something. How will they be able to check if the drive is flashed if the console is in RROD mode. And if they do fix it and check the status of the drive after repairing it, then it wont matter because the console is already repaired. They can't just unrepair it because the drive is flashed.

*I think* when they say tampering they mean the warranty sticker is missing or they physically see a mod chip or an x-clamp fix.

So I finally flashed the console back to original firmware. Never thought Id have to flash a console in RROD mode lol but everything went smoothly. And then I put that little silver sticker (that holds the DVD Drive in place) back and flattened it out with a pair of tweezers so it looks like it was never taken off. I put the case and everything back on including the warranty stiker facing the exact direction as it originally does. I took a pic:

Im sending this out to MS tomorrow and will see what happens next! Very Happy

timechange, you could have left the drive flashed. I did when I got rrod and it all processed very smoothly (even with a fake sticker bought on ebay) : got my console back repaired and the drive still flashed.
The warranty sticker is a big fat one and is probably a pain in the arse to remove safely...
Anyway, wish you good luck Wink

Yea I could've just left it flashed since they wouldn't have been able to test the drive in RROD mode. But I already flashed it back to Orig before I knew this. But anyways, everything went smoothly. This was my first time sending a console to MS and they seem really nice about it.

They sent me a brand new console with different serial number and the fat warranty sticker. They also sent a letter of apology and a complimentary 1 month Xbox Live Gold card.
